If JW wrote a series written from multiple narratives..

I was just thinking how fun it would be if we had more JW books with multiple characters having narrative roles with chapters written from their POVs.

I know there are a few (Double Act, Buried Alive, The Worry Website), but imagine if The Diamond Girls or My Sister Jodie or even the Girls series had multiple narrators!

I think a series with multiple narrators would have been such a hit 20 years ago when I was the target audience, and possibly even today.

I would love it, how about you?

Jacqueline Wilson's adult characters

I find it quite interesting how, in my opinion at least, three dimensional a lot of Jacky's adult characters are. I feel like where other childrens authors background adults, she actually fleshes them out quite well.

The mums and dads aren't one copied and pasted character, despite common traits eg single parents or teen parents, and it really adds to the realism for me. The variety of other secondary characters is good too, like glimpses into teachers' personalities, shop keepers' families, grandparents not all being one stereotypical old lady trope etc

Anyone agree/disagree?

What happened to Qi Qi?

Watching Asian Games coverage has made me think of some of my favourite Asian gymnasts in recent years.

I remember when Qi Qi and her floor tumbling was a huge deal as she wasn't one of the beautiful bars workers with long lines.

Does anyone know what happened to her? Did she retire?

Unmasked by Ellie Middleton - any thoughts?

I'm currently reading Ellie Middleton's book unmasked, which is apparently 'the ultimate guide to ADHD, autism and neurodivergence'. I was wondering if anyone on here has read it and has any thoughts on it?

I'm having some conflicting feelings about being told that 'we' don't say people are 'on the spectrum, and how 'we' should be using language. I don't know about any other autistic invididuals, but I personally feel that everyone is entitled to refer to their diagnosis in a way that they prefer. It felt a little patronising, and my husband shares my view.

Don't get me wrong, I understand language use very well (quite literally did an English Language degree), but I really dislike it when people tell you how you should refer to something that's personal to you, in case you offend someone else.

If there's a spectrum, why are 'we' not allowed to say that we're 'on' it, if that's how you feel as an autistic individual? To me personally it doesn't minimise it, nor does saying I have autism rather than that I'm an autistic person. If it's how I want to refer to myself, it's how I'll refer to myself.

So yeah, aside from that I am finding it interesting, and as someone who also likely has hyperactive ADHD I am very much appreciating the layout and use of bold text throughout the book.

Would be interested to read other people's thoughts.

How many books have a character called Michael/Mick/Mickey?

Obviously The Illustrated Mum has a couple, but which others? I want to try to compile a list and will update here as and when.

The Illustrated Mum - Mickey & Michael

Girls Under Pressure - Mick

Bed & Breakfast Star - Mack

Cookie - Mike

Lily Alone - Mikey

Secrets - Michael

Did you ever want to be (or be more like) one of JW's characters as a child?

For me, I always wanted to be as feisty as Lottie, as cool as Jasmine and as confident as Ruby.

The characters I was most like in personality were a combination of Garnet, Mandy, Violet and Prue, so go figure 😂

Are there any topics that JW that you hope she will write about one day?

I'd love for her to write more of a pro-choice plot for one of her teen characters for a change.

I'd also find a novel from a parental perspective interesting!

Jacqueline Wilson is so good at historical fiction!

Reading Clover Moon for the first time and I honestly think I'd have loved Jacqueline Wilson even more as a child had these amazing historical fiction books been published earlier.

I always loved her work, especially Lottie's diary entries in The Lottie Project, but it wasn't until reading the likes of Hetty Feather and beyond that I truly appreciated what a talented author she really is.

Which JW family would you want to be part of? Which would would hate to be part of?

Are there any JW families that you've ever wished to join? Or any that you're very grateful aren't real?
