Double digit months are here!
My favorite time of year (seems that way for most people). A fun holiday each month, and we're possibly only five or six weeks away from autumn!

"Repairs are nearing completion at the Mud Island Amphitheater as they work on lunch list items to bring it up to ADA standards! New stage coating, concrete repairs, new hand rails and much more!"
Saw this on a page called "Bring Back the Music: Mud Island Amphitheater" on FB. I had ZERO idea anyone was doing anything to refurb the place. They have a website (SaveTheAmphitheater.com) which I checked, but it pretty much is for merch sales and soliciting donations, not much news.
In his first MLB game today, he hit homers in his first three at bats (his first was on the first pitch he ever saw in the majors!) - a feat NEVER before done in the history of MLB!
I mean, at least the athletes are getting paid handsomely. Fans, not so much. I dunno what their plans for watering the course are, but if they don't, the greens are gonna play like billiard table tops by Sunday.
A lot can change by Thursday, of course... but for now? Sweat much?
Just had a tap on my door. When I answered, it was a young kid (couldn't have been more than 20 or 21). He was wearing a green reflective vest and had a lanyard around his neck. He started with, "No funny stuff [showed me his picture lanyard]... I'm the area manager here for AT&T and..." I cut him off right away. I said, "you guys must be HORRIBLE to work for." He asked why I said that, and I replied, "Because you're the third area manager in three weeks to tap on my front door [completely true]." He stuttered a bit and tried to start into some sales pitch; I cut him off again. "First, I'm not interested. Second, the last two guys didn't knock on every door. Why?" He said he was given a list of area addresses to call on. I asked to see it; he hemmed and hawed again. I then asked him to hang on for a second so I could go get my phone and get a photo of him and he left on the double. I watched and he didn't stop at ANY other houses on the street.
Anybody have any similar experiences? Absolutely ZERO about any of the three visits felt legit.
I mean, it must be hours since I've heard any firecrackers nearby.
My neighbor up the street has Tiger Lillies in her yard every year, which I love seeing. We're right at the end of the woefully short flowering period for them. While I was walking last evening, I saw this one; it's where the TLs have always been, but there's no spots. Is this just weirdness or a different type of lily?
I think it's a good fit for the team.
Pretty cool! This is from his FB feed...

Edit: This accompanied the post of the flyer: "This just got announced. Hope to see you in Memphis for an absolute spectacle of sight and sound at gonerfest this year. It’s truly an honor to play with so many amazing bands at such a cool festival. We’re going to have to pull out all the stops: Tesla coils, Van de Graaff generators, and, of course, an endless chain of handkerchiefs being pulled out of a jacket pocket — you know, all the heavy hitting science crap. Anyway, come out to this or we’ll have to come to your house, and we know your parents don’t want that."
For about ten days out of every year, the hideously ugly cactus in the yard** sports the prettiest yellow flowers! They don't last long, but they help keep bees happy.
**Don't get me wrong - that cactus is my spirit animal (old, ugly and doesn't give up easily)
At The Shell. From the website: "On May 9, 1971, the original Allman Brothers Band performed a legendary concert at the Overton Park Shell.
55 years later to the day on May 9, 2026, as part of the Overton Park Shell’s 90th Anniversary Shell-ebration, “TROUBLE NO MORE: A Memphis Tribute To The Allman Brothers” will perform a recreation of this epic show!
The exact set list will be played as well as adding an iconic song that the Allman Brothers would have performed if time allowed; police shut down the original event past quiet hours. The Allman Brothers Band historic lighting show will be recreated with the help of “Infinity Stairs” using the era-correct-old school oil & water psychedelic liquid light effects as seen in the late 69’s/early 70’s videos of the band at the Fillmore auditoriums, East & West."
I know the band is really good, and an exact recreation of that show, lighting and all, sounds like fun! And... It's a freebie.
I don't know if it's this way at all of them, but Kroger on Union has hams (butt or shank), normally $2.99 a pound, on sale for $0.99 a pound. I got a $39 ham for $13! They had a couple dozen of them this morning. Bonus - I get a proper hambone for proper split pea soup!
