AIO for skipping a Fourth of July party after finding out my far-right extended family will be there?

So let me start by saying that I know it’s a big party and I wouldn’t have to interact with them that much. But I was planning to go to a big Fourth of July cookout hosted by a relative. I don't see most of my extended family very often, so I thought it would be a nice chance to catch up with people and enjoy the holiday.
A few days ago, I found out that several relatives I haven't seen in years are also attending. The issue is that they're very far-right politically, and over the last few years they've become increasingly vocal about it. I'm not talking about basic conservative views. I'm talking about people who turn every conversation into politics, post conspiracy theories constantly, and seem to enjoy provoking arguments.
I've had experiences with them before where a normal family gathering turned into hours of uncomfortable political debates, passive-aggressive comments, and people trying to bait others into reacting. It's exhausting.
I told the host that I wasn't going to make it after all. I didn't start any drama or announce why. I just politely declined. Now a few family members are saying I'm being immature and letting politics divide the family.
From my perspective, I'm not trying to change anyone's beliefs. I just don't want to spend my holiday trapped in a backyard listening to arguments I know are coming. I'd rather spend the day with friends and actually enjoy myself.
