3rd Year CSE Student: Student Leader Role vs DSA, Hackathons, and Internships?

I'm about to start my 3rd year in CSE and currently have summer vacation.

Right now, my main focus is:

• LeetCode and DSA preparation

• Participating in hackathons

• Building projects

• Preparing for internships

My profile:

• 9.7+ SGPA

• Multiple full-stack and AI-related projects

• Active in coding and technical activities

• Some involvement in student organizations

Recently, I was approached for a Student Leader/Campus Ambassador-type role for a coding championship. The benefits include leadership experience, networking, recommendations, community events, and possible internship opportunities. The responsibilities mainly involve promoting the event, helping students register, and acting as a campus point of contact.

I'm trying to understand whether this is worth my time, especially since I'll be entering 3rd year soon.

For those who have gone through internships and placements:

  1. Did Student Leader/Campus Ambassador roles actually help your career?

  2. Are they valued by recruiters, or are projects, internships, hackathons, and DSA significantly more important?

  3. If you were in my position, would you take the role?

  4. Are there any red flags I should watch out for before accepting?

Looking for honest advice from seniors, interns, and working professionals.
