visiting NY soon

I’m planning on traveling to ny in a few months and I want to get a piercing and a tattoo (nothing too crazy, a small one) where should I go? Any recommendations? Something not crazy expensive but with good quality results.

All ears!

places to sit and wind down

hey Reddit Qatar! can you recommend places for me to sit down, read or paint that are not that much crowded, noisy or expensive? I know I could go to a park but I mean something more cozy, indoors (in case it’s too hot early night). I went to a cafe in Msheireb downtown once but I spent almost $50 but the vibe is so nice and the place is cute. I don’t know, give me your best recommendations, help your girl out. I’m thinking of exploring everything you recommend. It’s just me, my books and my headphones looking for sit somewhere and get lost in the pages.

(Please make it metro friendly) 🤓 thank you!

looking for a job (urgently)

Good evening everyone! I’ve heard from a few people that the job market in Qatar is going downhill, but, I didn’t expected it to be like this 😭 I’ve spent 3 weeks applying to various the jobs I’ve found that match with my profile and still, not even one call, nothing, no emails…. NOTHING… I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m growing impatient, frustrated, depressed, anxious… 🫩 I’m capable of doing anything, just refer me to someone 😭

skateboarding

saw a girl today coming out of the metro station with headphones and a skateboard heading towards the library, and ngl, SHE LOOKED SO COOL. I was gonna approach her but idk… back home I used to skate (I own longboard, just cause I like to cruise). Is there an area to skate near the library? Or other areas where I could do that without being reported? I would love to try and skate here.

Before you think anything, I’m a GIRL. and girl with the skateboard, if you see this, LOVED YOUR VIBE!!

Refraining from dating

I only post this here ‘cause ofc, now I’m living here…

I’m refraining myself from dating because of my salary.

So, I like this guy (he has his own business and works very hard) but there is something in me that cannot date anyone unless I make a decent amount of money so I can take my man out, for coffee or to the movies… I want to be able to spoil my partner too. They say Arabs are different from other cultures because they take care of everything for the woman they love but I just can’t let that happen, I feel like at some point he will ask himself “so is this girl gonna show some interest on paying?” or maybe “I’m not her father to pay for everything”. I’ve asked some Arabs male friends and they say that there is no way they let their woman pay for anything and that the money she makes, it’s only hers but in my culture, it’s not a 100% like that. I don’t mind sharing what’s mine with someone I love, I want to be able to tell my man “dress nicely tonight and come pick me up at 8, we going for dinner” BUT I CANT 🫩

Am I weird? Some girls tell me I’m being stupid for thinking like that but honestly, I just don’t want to be a burden and if he is making me feel special, I want that for him too. Any advice? Am I crazy? Should that be something to be discussed with that guy or anyone who tries to date me?

driver license

I’m an expat in Qatar, where do I go for a driver license? I want to get more information about it, I tried searching for a phone number but couldn’t find it? What do I need for it?

Also, are there any small businesses that let you borrow cars for uber here? I’m interested in that. Any information will be appreciated

Thanks

idk what to do anymore

I can’t go out cause my salary is very low (2k) almost half of it gets spent on groceries, phone bill and a few pieces of clothes (cause I didn’t bring much because of the laws). job is mentally tiring, I can’t go to the salon and get everything fixed cause of money (I do my hair) sometimes I go to the park just to sit down and cry lowkey and then go home. I cannot even enjoy the experience of living in a new country, been trying to find another job but nothing confirmed yet. All I do is BIG LOUD SIGH and keep pushing …

what should I do?

I came to Doha with a company and realized I was scammed a bit with the salary (other girls are working for the first time and they have a higher grade and salary than me that I have 10 years of experience) I know it’s my fault to accept the offer and I’ve been asking for a case opening so they can review my resume, how I’ve been doing, my attendance and maybe try to move me but I feel like they are dodging me for being too new here… any advice? Any information? Should I try to look for another job in the following months or…. I barely make it with this salary and I’ve been doing so good at work it’s not fair

I’ve been living in Doha for 3 months now and I still cannot find my place. I knew I was going to feel left out at some point knowing that this country is totally different than where I’m from but I’m still confused about how everything works… lifestyle, dating, how to even cross the streets, what to wear… I don’t know, at the beginning it was wonderful but now I don’t know.. maybe I’m overthinking too much… any advice?
