To what extent can we be forced to install batteries, headlights, wiper blades etc.?

At our store, these services are treated responsibilities rather than optional. Our DM came down on us over the winter for refusing to install batteries in below 0. And now we’re being forced to install them in temps approaching 100°. From reading on this sub, it seems like these should be optional, and able to be refused for any reason including weather. Am I mistaken? Or is there something I can do to ensure I don’t get written up/fired for refusing to do these free services in extreme weather?

Any reason Zoners aren’t organizing?

Autozone is already notorious for low wages and high stress, but with all these new stores being opened it’s got me thinking. Can we go on some sort of strike to fight for better pay? Would it require us to unionize? We know corporate actively fights to keep labor costs as low as possible at the expense of employees, but opening hundreds of new stores across the world with 0 going back to employees feels like a slap in the face. We’re only worth as much as we reject the status quo.
