Auto zone fried my car, what next I guess
So I needed a new battery, auto zone installs battery’s. I’m away from home and I just had my car jumped so I think great, let’s head to auto zone. Long story short the under paid gentlemen assisting me reversed my battery terminals for a full 60 ish seconds. I even asked him like hey man are you sure those are right and he replied he believed they were. I just jumped my car so I was pretty sure he was wrong and I should’ve spoke up more assertively but anywho. Car is fried. Lit up like a Christmas tree, infotainment won’t come on. Starter won’t make a sound. The only thing on is the dash and all the pretty lights. They had the car towed. I never got a refund for the battery which I need to ask about. But how does this process usually work, and should I ever expect to see that car again? It’s a 11 year old Lexus with 91k miles. I love the car to death it’s great but I don’t want to deal with electric issues for the test of my time with her.
WWYD?
so this past week something so odd happened in my store. i’m the commercial specialist and had been helping a new commercial customer over the past week as well as getting to know him cause i thought he was chill. we were making small talk one night and he had just mentioned something about the fact that he carries (definitely odd to me to mention but i wrote it off as plenty of people do) nothing odd ever came out of it until a few days later when he came in again. at this point i was comfortable enough to chat with him as i would with good friends. then he decided it would be funny to show us his handgun and point the laser at my coworker. we were so shaken up by that we were walking on eggshells hoping he would leave. finally he does after about 40 minutes of shopping when my coworker called the police. crazy right? he was arrested the very next day but what is blowing my mind about all this is when i when to talk to my boss about it she was just like “why would u check him out” and “why would u let him look for parts on the computer” as her assistant goes “stop being so scared” cause hes and armed man comfortable enough to wave it around im not gonna try anything silly like what? anyways i wanted some feedback on what yall would do. the fact that she didn’t even ask if we were alright just really bugged me and honestly has me wanting to leave the zone. valid?
Positive discrepancy.
So, I'm a PSM. I only have been for less than 90 days. today with it being a holiday, it was dead. Almost no customers. I had 2 relatively new red shirts, one being a rising star working with me tonight.
Somehow, one of our registers got over by $350+.
No idea how except for maybe one of the red shirts didn't finalize a transaction properly? I had already done an audit and recon on every other till and counted petty.
Called my SM and she pretty much told me im in trouble.
I guess my question is, how much? Should I start looking for another job?
DLG - Japan Built? Made in China?
DLG alternator shows Japan built on the website listing, box it arrived has label showing made in China? Make it make sense
Grown Men Battery’s
I was just scrolling through reviews of other stores near me to see how they compare to mine since I am super bored and found this review. This is a grown man who seems young enough to be able to put in his own battery. Dude is complaining that one of the girls didn’t want to put it in 😂. I understand if it was an elderly man but this guy is fit and capable to do it himself.
AC Pro, Sub Zero etc. Stories
Who’s got funny stories on AC recharges? had a guy come in yesterday wanting AC pro for his 2018 lexus. he goes you’ll install it right? Nope, go through my spiel of theres something wrong with you ac system, this will not fix it and most of the time will not improve it so we won’t put it in as people try to return it, but if you do purchase it the instructions are on the can are super simple or you can watch a YouTube video. he says he can’t do that I said well the best bet will be to take it to a shop and have it fixed correctly. he says he can’t afford that and I say roll the windows down? he gets huffy and says well I need someone to put it in. I said it really is easy, he breaks into tears at this time and screams “I can’t read!” Everyone at the counter including customers busts out laughing and he storms out the door.
had another one last year that actually conned me into putting it in, told him it can’t be returned and asked him if compressor works, fan yada yada, put it in he said it’s not cold, told him well you have an issue most likely a leak. he says well can I get my money back? I say no we opened it and used it. he goes well it didn’t fix it.I told him as we discussed there was a strong possibility it wouldn't work. He goes well I need the money back since it didn’t work, I said I can’t return an empty can because your car is broken. He starts to get teary eyed and keeps arguing with me, me trying to offer WOW customer service, reaches in my wallet and pulled out a $50 and tell him if ”if you are so broke you can’t live without the $40, I’ll help you out” all the other customers are staring at him and he runs outside.
it‘s so funny to see grown men get so upset over the cheapest and dumbest things.
PreBoarding Journey Stuck at 11/12
So I'm a new hire at AZ and I was of course tasked with completing my boarding journey, but I've run into a problem with the "State Form - Action Required" task, for which I have completed and the website tells me I have nothing else to fill out. For some reason the task still shows uncompleted and is "due today". Anyone know how to fix this?
I'm on my web browser for context and I've attempted to reset and logout multiple times.
To what extent can we be forced to install batteries, headlights, wiper blades etc.?
At our store, these services are treated responsibilities rather than optional. Our DM came down on us over the winter for refusing to install batteries in below 0. And now we’re being forced to install them in temps approaching 100°. From reading on this sub, it seems like these should be optional, and able to be refused for any reason including weather. Am I mistaken? Or is there something I can do to ensure I don’t get written up/fired for refusing to do these free services in extreme weather?
Sm. just curious
I'm in West Texas and I'm just curious how much do store managers make on average I just got promoted so I just wanted to know if my pay is fair. I've been with Az for about 4 years now I started as a part-time driver was promoted to a full-time driver and then a PSM and then a year ago I was promoted to a commercial sales manager and a month ago promoted to a store manager
Returns without receipt with rewards account.
I have a small independent shop. I usually spend $2-4k a month. AutoZone says thats not enough for a commercial account so I just use my rewards acct to keep track of purchases.
I spend the majority of my parts budget at napa already. I go to AZ because its closer and even with my commercial pricing at napa, a lot of things are still cheaper.
For the last 10 years I've been able to return and exchange items without a receipt, with just my phone number.
Recently my local store has started hassling me and refusing returns or exchanges without receipt unless its a warranty.
They even went so far as to refuse to exchange a wrong part I tried to return a half hour after it was purchased (Asked for a prius inverter pump, was sold an engine water pump, parts runner didn't know the difference) I had to drive to the store, back to my shop to get the receipt and back to the store to do the exchange. I didn't return for several weeks after that.
Is this a new policy or is the newish SM making up his own rules? Its awfully fishy that it started shortly after advance and knechts went out limiting local options.
If this is a policy, how do you feel about having to enforce it even if it drives customers to the competitors?
I know my local NAPA loves it. They just moved me to a better pricing tier because I've been spending more there lately.
Edit:
Thank you for the suggestions to talk to other stores. I called the hub store in the the next town over. SM (I assume, maybe commercial manager?) looked at my rewards account, took my CC and set me up with a COD pro account on the spot. No argument.
He also told me this isn't the first time he's dealt with this "misunderstanding" as he called it.
Unfortunately, despite his help, that store is almost 30 mi from where I'm at and at this point I really don't want to give the local AZ any business on pure principle despite actually liking most of the crew there. I got to get rid of this bad taste of my mouth first then maybe...
As far as the returns go, he explained that technically I'm supposed to have to make some kind of a phone call to customer service but they have never enforced that. If I can give them an invoice number, which is right there on my rewards app, they never argue.
Not having the receipt was never the point anyway, I always have the receipt I just don't want to have to carry them all around. The point was customer service. If I'm spending money in your store on a consistent basis, I expect you to at least make an attempt to go above and beyond without complaining to keep my business. Maybe they were following policy, that's fine. They can be anal about policy with other customers while I shop somewhere else.
Maybe y'all are right, maybe I rubbed someone there the wrong but they made it clear they don't want my business so I guess they're going to get what they wanted at least until I get over being butt hurt.
The account will still be helpful, it's not like I'm a stranger in the hub store. Me or a parts runner is there at least a couple times a week.
Pay
So I’m curious to see how much do red shirts get paid I would like to know your yrs there n location if possible just curious thank you in advance
drug test
so i got injured at work n had to go to the er n get checked up.. then they tell me outta nowhere ive got to get a drug test? i wasn’t even drug tested when i got hired lol
is there some new kind of rule?
Why is the price for a part more than 2x on a Desktop browser?
Title says it all. I'm searching for a part on mobile, went to Desktop to place the order and it's literally twice the price.
Quantity is 1, the URL in the address bar on Mobile and Desktop is exactly the same.
What the heck is this nonsense?
AutoZone is the worst job I’ve ever had
Today’s my last day dude. I quit. I’m gonna rant here and I want to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. I got promoted to part time PSM. I’ve been working 40+ hours every week for a month and a half. I never got trained. I was shown how to close the store and that is it. Everything else I’ve had to figure out on my own.
I am consistently scheduled in a manner to where I am supposed to take a lunch, but I will be the only gray shirt in the store. Because of that, I cannot take a lunch. Instead, my manager pulls it out of my check. My time card was also adjusted to where I wouldn’t have any OT despite working 45 hours.
I am constantly blamed for everything that is wrong, even when I didn’t mess anything up. I’m texted on my days off from the CSM telling me shit is fucked up, or the floor is dirty, or there’s a trash bag that didn’t get taken out that needs to go out.
NOW I’m being blamed for commercial being fucked up because the CSM never charged someone for a part. The customer needed to warranty it out so I was going to swap it out for them. In the process of doing the return, it didn’t look right. I called the CSM, so he came into the store to inform me the customer never paid for it and I fucked everything up. How the fuck is it my fault that THEY did something sketchy and I did my job THE WAY I AM SUPPOSED TO.
Fucking seriously dude. This place is fucking hell. The culture is dog shit. The management is a bunch of toxic shit bags. Can ANYONE else relate to this at all? I know this sounds absurd and like I’m a shitty employee, but my god dude. I genuinely can’t believe how fucked everything about this job is. I fucking hate everything about it and I’m quitting tonight.
Mike Ferendelli
AutoZone's social media accounts has been under pressure after claims of LP manager Mike Ferendelli making statements praising the shooting at Pulse Nightclub.
