regarding job fair on July 11th - i prepared a spreadsheet for my reference to categorize companies that attend it because the organizing people didn't bother to - sharing here if it would be of any use to anyone here + could use feedback and corrections and comments about it

bright red - these are manpower supplier or staffing agencies - not saying that they're bad or anything but just that if you go through them you're just on contract and you won't probably get benefits like cab facility or allowances

purple - these are companies that exist outside of chennai

crimson red - these are companies that exist in "chennai" but not in chennai - sriperumbudur, maraimalai nagar, oragadam, irungatukottai, etc.

corn blue - they are training cum placement services and may ask for money

grey (work in progress) - these are companies that have horrible reviews in sites like ambitionbox or glassdoor

i hope this would be of use and help people avoid getting into traps because ultimately they call themselves "headhunters" and "human resource" as if job seekers are just some raw material

if any corrections or any other information is needed i can also consider working on that

ps: if this color coding is annoying i can do something about it too, i am just autistic and coloring is fun

---

I am forced to go to this job fair by my dad because he keeps telling me it is huge

i personally don't want to go but i am being forced to so i am trying to cope ahead by researching before i go there and avoid getting overwhelmed

the organizing committee released a list of companies a couple of days ago

they did not include location, job title they are hiring for, type of hiring, whether they're company or consultant, or anything like that

they just released a list of companies and vacancy count - whatever that makes them look like they are bigger than they think

so i prepared a spreadsheet to do their work, with the help of AI because it is very frustrating to do it myself manually - i also made to check myself whenever possible because i don't trust ai much

I reject myself before I even apply when searching for jobs. How do I even get myself to actually clicking the apply button and let things actually happen?

I open a job site, say LinkedIn or Indeed, and I start to scroll after clicking necessary filters - freshness (last 7 days), location, entry level / fresher, etc.

I get maybe 1000 to 1500 results, which in itself is overwhelming. I try to further filter by hiding words that I don't want to see (eg. sales, marketing, business development, etc.) using browser extensions.

Then the madness begins.

I see 100+ applicants, and I skip it.

I see job description and I find out that I don't have the skills or experience they ask for, and I skip it.

I see rotating shifts / night shifts, I skip it.

I see customer facing / client facing communication heavy roles, I skip it.

I see the salary, and since I am looking for entry level positions, it mostly is very low and unsustainable (and my parents would shit on me for it and would just ask me to stay home instead of earning peanuts), so I skip it.

I see the company details and find out that it's too far away, 20+ km or requires 2h+ travel, I skip it.

If it's a nearby company, I see its reviews on glassdoor or something, if it's available, and if it has any redflags, I skip it.

If by miracle, something does seem to make it through all those restraints above, I start to question the legitimacy of the job and start to investigate the location of the company, it's online profiles, social media, etc. and never reach a conclusion so I just put it on hold and never come back again.

If it's a job ad posted in the newspapers, since each ad is paid on a word count basis, they don't include additional details or sometimes even the company name, and just leave a phone number, and I absolutely hate calling people.

I'll never get a job if I keep doing all this. I've lost days because of indecisiveness.
