AMA: Just returned from 10 nights including Santorini, Ios and Amorgos as a long-time Greek tourist

I've been to 36 Greek islands over the past 30+ years. I returned yesterday from a 10-day trip:

- Flight into Santorini from the UK, one night in Fira

- Five nights on Ios staying at Mylopotas Beach (my fifth time on the island)

- Three nights on Amorgos including a brief layover in Naxos to change ferries (my fourth time on the island)

- One night back on Santorini, staying in Kamari, then flight back to the UK the following day

Happy to answer any questions about these islands and my Greek experiences in general.

Is there more to Diablo 4 than just grinding for gear/XP? (new player)

I made a post a couple of weeks back as it's my first time playing any Diablo game, coming from an FPS background (mostly Overwatch) and wanting something new and less tilting to play.

So far, I am enjoying the game - currently level 54 with a pretty decent sorcerer build using mainly ice/cold skills. I'm still doing the main campaign missions and they're pretty fun so I don't have any plans to stop yet.

However, I'm starting to notice a couple of things that worry me from a long-term enjoyment perspective and want to see if this is common or what I could do differently to get more out of the game:

  1. There's a fairly repetitive game loop: start a mission, collect loot and gain XP along the way. Complete the mission. Return to my default teleport location. Sell or tear down any gear I don't want. Equip, level up any gear that's better than my current loadout. Add gemstones, aspects etc. Spend skill points from levelling up. Repeat.

  2. I've increased the difficulty as far as I'm allowed as a first-time player (I think it's at Penitent) and I'm comfortably clearing dungeons and winning boss fights without any real risk of dying. I don't believe that I'm a great player, so unless I've stumbled on a random OP build, is this just a consequence of being a new player and hitting the difficulty ceiling?

I'm playing seasonal if that matters - I had no idea what to choose when I started, so I just picked that at random.

Like I said, I'm still enjoying the game, I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance that there's still a lot left to experience other than purely levelling up and getting better gear?

Should I start another character with a different class or would that mean repeating the campaign from scratch?

Any tips to make it more fun?

Honest review after using Pocket 4 on recent trip to Greece

Thought I'd share my personal experience of using the Osmo Pocket 4 on a recent trip to Greece. I primarily film for YouTube video content.

Background (skip if you don't care):

before buying the OP4, my travel setup was a Panasonic Lumix GH5 DSLR and GoPro Hero 10. The DSLR is bulky, but has great video and photo quality. I briefly tried vlogging with it, but it's too cumbersome and using a shotgun mic made it difficult to record audio unless I was pointing the camera at my face.

The GoPro is good for quick b-roll and I started using it for vlogging by pairing it with a DJI Mic Mini - recording audio separately to my phone and syncing it manually in post. A slight faff, but it worked. The downside with the GoPro is the image stabilization often produces jerky video when panning at certain speeds, and I often wouldn't notice this until editing the footage later. The low-light quality was also pretty terrible.

(end background)

I bought the OP4 with the hope/expectation that it would offer several improvements over my previous setup:

  1. Better overall image quality than the GoPro, if slightly lower than the GH5, but way more portable.

  2. Built-in pairing with the Mic Mini so no manual sync of audio.

  3. Better vlogging experience and b-roll capture due to its gimbal design.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with the results. The video quality using high bitrate and 10-bit dlog is superb. I actually think the colours are better than the GH5 and the softer image is more pleasing. It's way better than the GoPro Hero 10 (maybe an unfair comparison given its age, but still). The depth of field effect also looks really nice, which isn't something I was anticipating but again you don't get this on a GoPro.

Usability was also great: it turns on fast, pairs quickly with the Mic Mini and is pretty intuitive to use. I did have a few hiccups early on, where I was filming mostly sky due to having the gimbal tilted up accidentally - even though the screen is bright, in full sunshine it's a little hard to see and I don't always look at the screen while walking around. I soon got used to making sure the horizon was at the right level though.

Another small issue I found is that, when using follow mode, if you use the joystick to pan or tilt, it seems to make the camera try to stay looking at the same thing even if you want to pan to something else. Hitting the joystick by accident did happen a few times, especially when clicking it to spin it around 180 degrees.

I bought the battery grip, but to be honest I barely used it. Yes, it does make the OP slightly easier to hold, but actually even with large hands I had no issue using it without the grip and the grip does make it more bulky. I was easily able to do several hours of on-off filming each day and never got the battery below about 40%.

File transfer is super fast, and the 107Gb internal storage was enough that I didn't even bother putting an SD card in it, though I did have one on standby. I did find that, when shooting in 10-bit dlog, turning on 'color recovery' didn't do anything when copying the files directly off the device and editing them in DaVinci Resolve - someone had told me that this setting would 'restore' the normal colour (i.e. more rec709) but perhaps this only works if you use DJI software to process the clips? However, you can download a LUT from the DJI website which maps the OP4 dlog to rec709 and looks great without any extra grading required.

I didn't experience any technical issues, aside from a few seconds where the audio went a bit choppy, but it only happened once out of probably 8+ hours recording.

My only other minor gripe is that the plastic magnetic gimbal lock is very difficult to get off unless you're holding the device a certain way. Probably this is by design to keep it secure, but several times I tried pulling it off and really struggled.

Overall, I'm super happy with the OP4 and very glad I bought it. It's simplified my travel setup enormously and given me a noticeable improvement in quality. I'm happy to share links to one of my videos if anyone is interested, but won't post it unless asked as I'm not trying to do any self-promotion.

Seeking useful advice to get the most out of my new OP 4 on upcoming trip

Got the new Osmo Pocket 4 about a week ago. Besides turning it on and playing with the settings after watching a few YouTube videos, I've not done much actual filming yet. I plan to use it over the weekend as I've got a 10-day trip to Greece later this month and it's the main reason I got the camera (I make YT content as a hobby).

Before the Osmo, I was using a combination of GoPro Hero 10 and a GH5 for filming, but I wanted to swap them both for something that had good quality but was more portable and also easy to vlog with.

I know there are already quite a few setup/settings videos for the OP4 on YouTube, but what I'm after is genuine advice either from OP4 users, or OP3 users where the settings/usability is consistent.

Basically, any tips for how to set up or use the camera quickly and efficiently while I'm on my trip. I already bought the battery grip so I don't have to worry about charging all the time (I think based on my expected usage I should get a full day from it).

I'm planning to record everything in 4k60 as I've found it worked for me on the GoPro/GH5 so I can re-use lots of the footage for B-roll and slow it down if I need to.

I've seen people recommending the ND filters so you can lock the shutter speed, but honestly I'm not making cinema and I never did this on the GoPro or noticed much difference, so it feels like buying the filters would just be another thing I need to carry with me and remember to fit/remove which is just adding friction unless it really makes that much of a difference.

I also didn't buy the creator kit as I already have the DJI Mic Mini so getting the extra transmitter felt like a waste, but I was kinda interested in the fill light. I mostly film during the daytime though, so in the end I haven't bought it because I'm not sure it's going to be that useful, but then again it's only £20 so might be handy to have just in case.

Any other tips for which modes to use, e.g. for walking around versus static panning shots? What about things like gesture control and active track? I like the idea of using these with the OP on a tripod to get some clips of me moving around - I just need to practise it I guess.

Just bought the pocket 4 - mic setup question about DJI Mic mini

I recently bought the OP 4 to replace my ageing GoPro on an upcoming trip to Greece. I film content for YouTube videos - a mix of vlogging and sometimes just b-roll for videos I'll do voiceovers later.

I bought the Mic Mini last year to give me better vocal recording and was using it with the GoPro by recording audio separately into my phone via its USB receiver, then syncing with the GoPro footage in post.

One of the benefits of getting the OP4 was its support for pairing with the Mic Mini, which I've got working fine. However, I'd read online that bluetooth audio recording quality isn't as good versus using the dedicated receiver. I tried plugging the receiver into the USB-C port of the OP4 but that doesn't seem to work?

The quality sounds fine when I use the DJI Osmo Audio (or whatever it's called) to connect the transmitter directly to the camera (via Bluetooth) but I'm just wondering if this is the optimal setup for audio quality or whether the receiver is meant to work plugged into the camera and I've just not set it up correctly?
