Here on the internet I hear a lot about how certain brands are all marketing and no substance and to a certain level, I agree. But to act as if part of the money you spend on a watch is just burned into thin air if it goes into the branding is wrong.

Think about what these things are. Completely unnecessary and outdated wrist jewelry. China is cranking out near 1:1 Daytonas for $500. Thats the real cost of manufacturing these things. None of these watches are inherently worth what they are being priced at outside of an f84w. This is not a supercar or a GPU. There is no technological moat that you are paying for. The inherent value of the item youre buying is so secondary compared to how it makes you feel and what image you are trying to present to the world.

tl;dr It is not stupid to buy a watch because of branding and marketing. And by extension, its ok to buy a watch and care about what other people think of it.
