Stop trying to solve a complex issue with a simple consumer choice. There is no moral consumption under capitalism.

I have been a vegan for about 30 yrs. About seven years ago, I joined Extinction Rebellion, and things became much different for me. For the first time since I first became vegan, I had a hope for a better future, and I was a part of it. Now, seven years later, I’m still fighting like crazy to make Extinction Rebellion take off here in New York City, but I’m also recognizing the massive flaw in the trap that is veganism, and what it is doing to people’s otherwise productive brain capacity.

To understand this better, you have to understand how many people are vegan, roughly 3% of the population, and what their mentality is, generally speaking. One the first thing a vegan does when they take on the identity, is get vegan shoes. This happens usually in the first year. Throwing out old shoes is often not done, but sometimes it is. Sometimes the old shoes are just thrown aside. In their place, likely a pair of vans or converse. Something authentically and honestly canvas, and not leather.

At about this time, they’ll start to attend vegan meetups, hangouts, and even environmental get-togethers.

Not to find out what people are doing, but to make sure everyone is wearing the right shoes.

“How long have you been vegan?”

“Why did you become vegan?”

“How come you can’t stop eating cheese, ice cream, etc etc”

It’s an unstoppable trainwreck of vegan subculture consumption.

It wastes time, it wastes energy, and quite frankly, it’s reductive. The word reductive is perfect for this, and the title of this essay. It basically means you are taking a complex problem, and making it simple.

You are taking a complex problem, systemic oppression, climate change, planetary mass destruction, mass death and murder at a global scale, and making the problem super simple.

But it’s not just simple. It’s also completely ignorable.

Brothers and sisters, stop being completely reductive, invisible, and non-participatory.

My full thoughts on are on this substack post...

please... wish I could post this on vegan subreddits but would probably be banned.

Looks like I made it one month.

I made it... 31 days. I am getting off games like Fable, 1-3, Star Trek Online and Magic the Gathering Online.

It's been tough, but I've managed a lot of huge obstacles with my activism, which is my main thing. I really feel like I'm pushing into new territory in my life. Taking on more challenging reading material, advancing my writing and the scope of my activist ambitions.

I managed some really great creative writing I'm proud of and doing some editor stuff for friends.

I guess I'm 10 days in

Feels kind of odd. I unplugged my TV and xbox 10 days ago. Haven't booted up gaming on my TV. Won't even touch a Rubix cube. All social media beyond substack is deleted. All apps, and AI are Uninstalled or disabled.

I am in resistance not just stopping, but overachieving in every way i can. Even have a dumb phone, which I'm using to model my existance.

no chess. Nothing.

Big difference is I'm sleeping in a lot more but much more energized in my daily activism until today.

A game I like just dropped an update. I checked online to be sure.. but am not opening it up.

In fact, it all repulses me. I abhorre the abomination our parasitic economy has given birth to - digital nothingness and slop.

Luckily games are such a monolith, they have not yet caught up with ai. But as soon as they truly do... we'll, so many more will be trapped.

Resist. Rebel. Breath air. Fight back.

Still, I don't work. Every day I spend fighting back.

I wrote my first substack article today. Plz read and support. Its about climate change a related issue.

Day 1 again.

Fell off the wagon pretty bad in January. Going to get back to it. Buying a dumb phone, and unplugging my tv for at least a couple days.

Day 1, wish me luck.

Finally did my second playthrough. Fable 3 was so much better than I had realized.

I remeber racing through this game years ago and being very disappointed in the ending. I had wings and was super good. Focused on "you can't bring me down achievement," and got it. But owned no property... had ultimately a bad experience. And didn't try the game again until this week.

2nd playthrough... wow. I took my time, bought lots of property, did lots of side quests, payed more attention to the emotional arc of the story.

I am now convinced this is a way better game than Fable 2. It just needs lots of attention, you really can't just bull doze through it.

The revolutionary story line is full of a lot of subtlety I missed on my first pass. Glad I gave it another go.
