Formula recommendations

My baby is having transfer issues and we are triple feeding still. I am pumping and only feeding him breast milk currently but I want to have formula on hand just in case. Does anyone have a brand they like with not horrible ingredients? I’m in Canada for context

Triple feeding + low supply success stories?

My baby boy is 2 weeks old and lost 8% of his body weight, he was having issues gaining in his first week and my midwives suspect he may have a posterior tongue tie and issues with transferring. We started seeing gains after I was topping him up w 150mls of expressed milk/day, then switched to a triple feed set up where I bf 20 mins, husband feeds him 40mls in a bottle and I pump for 10 to help get my supply up. It’s been 3 days of that and my supply is increasing, I’m able to pump 90mls without bfing first. Mostly just hoping to get off the triple feed system and be able to ebf with maybe one pumped bottle a day. We’ve had to supplement with a small amount of formula if he’s still hungry after the top up and i dont have enough pumped - but i’d love to be able to move away from this too.

I’m optimistic that my supply seems to be improving and we’re seeing an IBCLC next week.

Just curious if anyone here has had a similar experience or positive outcomes they could share? It’s not how i envisioned my breastfeeding journey and i’m trying to stay positive

Returning to self-employed part time wfh with newborn

I'm expecting my first baby in early July and run a small consultancy that enables me to wfh part-time. My plan is to limit my workload to only current retainer clients once baby is here, which is about 2-8 hours a week of meetings plus admin work (2-4 hours max). It's very flexible but does require focused meeting time. I meet with one client every week and two other clients every other week. I normally also have project-based clients but will not be picking up any or pursuing new retainer clients for the next little bit.

I live in Canada and my husband is taking 35 weeks off of paid parental leave and will be home with me until next March.

Because it's my own business, I can't really afford to take that much time off and I worry about losing my clients if I'm absent. I've seen really good growth so far this year and recently doubled one of my retainers, so I need to ensure that I can still follow through and that I don't lose the relationship.

My current plan is to work until I go into labour, and take 4 weeks off completely from any meetings. I'm going to tell my clients that if anything comes up that they need me for, I can be available via text / voice notes and they can send me computer work things, but that my response time will be very slow. I'll bill them hourly for those 4 weeks instead of charging the retainer amount. After those 4 weeks, my plan is to go back to full scope of work with at least my biggest client (about 7.5 hours a week, 2-3 hrs of meetings), and potentially my two other clients, but they are a bit more flexible. By September, I'd like to be working with all of them at fully capacity again and potentially take on new clients as I have a few in the pipeline for around that time.

Once my husband goes back to work in March, my mom will be coming over for one full day a week to watch the baby, and I plan on fitting in as many meetings as I can on that day. Will do all other computer admin / ad hoc things on other days during his naps or when my husband is home.

Once he's past 12 months (but ideally we'd wait till he's 18 months), I'd like to enrol him in 2 days of part-time daycare so I can have a more defined schedule.

I'm feeling a bit nervous about it since it's just not a standard approach to maternity leave and I do really want to focus on my baby once he's born. My work is so flexible so it feels doable to me but I'm worried that I'm totally delusional in thinking this will work!

Would love to know if anyone has done something similar and has any feedback they could share. Thanks!!

Laid off because of parental leave

My husband was recently laid off by his employer of ~2.5 years, about 6 weeks before he was scheduled to go on 35 weeks of parental leave.

It’s a small company (maybe 8-10 employees) and his two bosses told him that they had lost some contracts unexpectedly and couldn’t afford to keep their team as big as it currently was. They said explicitly that because he was going on parental leave soon, they decided to lay him off. They also said they wanted to keep their line of communication open with him to check in at the end of his leave to see if they can afford to bring him back in some capacity.

He was given 2 weeks of severance plus vacation pay out.

My husband is pretty hesitant to pursue any legal action but I’ve been wanting to at least consult a lawyer to see if we have a case. Wondering if anyone here thinks it might be worth it? He wants to use it as an opportunity to find a job in a new type of role, but is worried they could bad mouth him if he were to go the legal route.

safe bedding & positioning for sidecar crib

i'm 36 weeks with my first and we are going to try the Ikea sniglar as a sidecar crib from the beginning. we set it up for the first time yesterday and weren't sure of a couple of details.

there is an angle in the wall next to my side of the bed, so the crib cannot be flush with the top of the mattress - is it ok if it starts a bit lower? I think I could still reach him comfortably and can sleep a bit lower down on the mattress if needed. we tried some other configurations of the bed but nothing really worked and the only other potentially viable option would have our bed & his crib in the coffin position which I'd like to avoid.

also wondering what type of bedding/pillow usage people use with sidecar cribs? fully bedsharing felt a bit too much for me, we'd like to transition him to his own sleep space eventually (6+ months) and I assumed I wouldn't need to be sleeping with a separate blanket at the waist / limited pillows, etc. but now wondering if it's unsafe to not be doing that even with the sidecar?

mostly wondering for the first 2-3 months when he's swaddled & can't roll

TIA!
