Finally part of this family! And a few first impressions
I finally bought one for myself after lurking in this sub for a while. Not gonna lie, I was kinda worried about this little (onion) boy being overhyped by the community, and I can finally say...it is not. This device is awesome.
I wanted to share a few thoughts after a couple of days' usage, also in the hope that someone on the fence and looking for the same kind of feedback I was looking for, can find this easily.
- This way my main concern: I'm a tall (onion?) boy and I have veeeery long fingers. I was worried about the console giving me cramps after 20 minutes. Sure you can buy a grip for additional comfort, and I did it btw, but haven't used it yet. I've been playing for a few hours already and had zero comfort issues. I can see myself using the grip for games that make intense use of the shoulder buttons though.
- Setup is really easy, just follow the guides. It's not that much tinkering and I had zero problems setting it up on the first try. Be sure to buy a good quality microSD card and a nice USB adapter.
- The build feels premium, it doesn't feel cheap in your hands. This is actually making me wonder if I really want a silicone case or not, because I genuinely love touching this thingy.
- As for reading epubs or watching cartoons, some say the screen is too small, but I guess to each their own. I’ve been doing both curled up in bed before sleeping, and I’ve been enjoying it. Sure this is not where the console shines the best, but there are a lot of situations where I can see this come in handy.
- If you're wondering whether you need it in general, as I was, since I also own a Switch, Switch 2, PS Vita, NDSXL, New 3DSXL and original 3DS. To me, the Miyoo Mini plus fills a gap those other consoles didn't. It's very portable and customizable and I can just take it on the go without thinking too much about it. It's cheap, so I also don't feel that kind of pressure like "Oh no, it now costs a gazillion to buy a 3DS, what if I lose it or forget is in the backpack and put things over it" and so on. But that could be just me.
- Finally: yes, OnionOS is just as cool as they say.
That's it, sorry for the wall of text. I hope you're having a fun time with your devices.
