Flying a pistol in and out of SFO California with no permits or licenses?

I live out of state, I have a New York pistol permit and a non resident Arizona carry permit, but no California permits. I’m visiting San Francisco on the way back from a training event with my Glock 43X pistol and CA legal 10round mags.

The pistol will remain locked in a pelican case unloaded as per TSA guidelines the entire time I’m in California / SF. Will I have any trouble checking my pistol at SFO on my return trip back to New York?

My understanding is that there is no permit or license needed in SF / California to simply possess a hand gun? I do not plan on concealed carrying it and I will not need to purchase ammunition while I’m in CA. It’ll be at my hotel the entire time except when traveling to and from the airport.

Thank you

Flying out of JFK was asked for proof of training class

I recently flew out of JFK. I have a premis pistol permit and a non resident AZ permit for reciprocity in other states, still waiting on nyc carry approval...

I was told by the officer called to inspect my pistol that since I have a premis license which is in his words a restricted permit, I needed to show proof that I was flying to a specific training class or range. This isnt my first time flying with a pistol, just the first time I was told this.

The guy was very friendly and it ended up being ok. He just said for next time to have a printed class confirmation or something similar.

Anyone else ever get told this? I feel like if he wanted to make trouble, it could have gone the other way.

Do I need to go to 1PP for interview for concealed carry license if I already have approved permits?

I’ve read quite a few threads on similar topics, but none that has this exact scenario. I was approved for rifle / shotgun and premise licenses at the end of March 2026, about 13 months after applying back in February 2025. I then submitted my concealed carry application mid April 2026. Immediately after submitting the CC application, I got the automated email instructing me to schedule an appointment for finger printing / interview.

I understand that I don’t need to get re-fingerprinted since I’ve already done that for the other licenses. My question is whether or not I still have to schedule the appointment to go into 1PP for an interview for the CC application, or do I ignore the scheduling email and just wait for them to approve? The only reason why I can think they would want me to go in, is that I didn’t answer any questions around my understanding of the various penal codes. Everything else should be the same as the interview I already did for the other permits.

Needless to say, I’ve tried calling and emailing dozens of times and have never gotten anyone to pick up the phone.

Any insight would be very appreciated.
