Onion valley trailhead resupply

Hi all,

I will be starting my JMT Trek in September from the horseshoe Meadows trailhead via lone pine. I was wondering if anyone knew what the best option would be for me to; 1. Get to the horseshoe Meadows trailhead and 2. Have a resupply dropped off at the onion Valley trailhead.

I would really like to avoid having to go right into the town of Independence for my resupply. I have heard that it can be risky to leave food in the bear boxes due to people tossing it sometimes. Do I have options when it comes to something like this?

Resupply in the Late Season - Leaning towards backing out of the JMT this year.

Back in March i ended up getting permits for the JMT via cottonwood pass trail starting Sept 20th. The plan was for 19 days at ~13 miles per day.; utilizing Red meadows Resort, Muir Ranch, and Independence as re supplies.

I've since come to realize the season for RMR and MR pretty much ends in September, i would be arriving at the MR pretty much on their last day ( too close for comfort ) and definitely wont get to the RMR before October. The independence re supply would be the better part of two days ( exit day and re entry day.

How do people typically handle resupplies in the late season, are there any alternatives to this? i also don't think i want to carry two food canisters with me the entire way either. I have a decent amount of backpacking experience including at elevation however this would be my first time visiting the Sierra Nevadas. Your feedback and advice would be much appreciated.

Proprananolol for PVCs

My doctor just prescribed Proprananolol to take as needed for a larger flare-ups of PVCs. Have any of you had experience with this type of medication in this situation? How were the side effects, and do you think it's an effective 'as needed' medication?

Edit: I was given 40mg

Toaks 750ml vs 900ml pots

Im a solo hiker looking to upgrade my 1.1L stainless steel gsi glacier pot to either a 750ml or 900ml titanium pot (likely toaks). I've seen from other posts the 750 ml pots are quite popular but I find myself leaning towards the 900 mL version for two reasons;

  1. it can fit the 200 g fuel canisters inside which I find really handy for packabikity. (Many places Ive travelled to don't have the 100g ones available.)

  2. I find dinners on the trail to be my biggest meal. I typically will have one sidekick meal which requires 500 mL of water, and then add a handful of beef jerky and dehydrated vegetables. Between all of this I'm worried that 750 ml won't fit my dinner.

I really wish I could go to a store to look at both of these pots but that is not available where I live. Are there any workarounds to my reasoning? How do you guys store your fuel canisters if they don't fit? And do you ever have issues fitting all your food in the 750 ml pots for you bigger eaters?

*Edit; thanks guys, I just ended up ordering an MSR Titan 900 based on recommendations in the comments!
