My 1989 325i has been running great recently. Fixed all the vacuum leaks, changed all hoses, timing belt and tensioner, water pump, accessory belts, intake manifold gaskets, and thermostat. Was enjoying a drive around today when the idle started stunting and died out at a red light. Pulled into my driveway and heard this strange rattling sound, coming mainly from the underside of the car. Can anybody help me identify it?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Hey yall. Having some trouble finding out where this small hose goes. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey everyone! Doing a full coolant hose replacement since one of them blew the other day. Like an idiot I didn’t take any pictures before I took ‘em all out, does this look right for the heater core hose? Thanks for the help!!
Hello!
I'm planning on restoring my 1989 325i cabrio's suspension due to its poor handling at higher speeds. Here is what I am planning on replacing:
- Bilstein B4 OE Replacement Shock and Strut Package
- Lemforder Front Control Arms Left and Right
- Offset FCABs
- Lemforder Front Sway Bar Links
- Front Bump Stops
- Rear Shock Mount Reinforcement plates
- TRW tie rod assemblies
- Sachs Front Strut Mounts
I'd greatly appreciate some guidance or advise if I am missing anything important.
Thank you so much!
Hey yall! Planning on replacing my thermostat and wanted to give the housing a good clean before i put it back on. These pictures are after several hours of soaking in white vinegar and cleaning the hose connectors with a wire brush. Does it look okay to be reused? Any help would be appreciated!
Hey yall, just did a valve adjustment and replaced my rocker shaft plugs and the valve cover gasket! The valve ticking seems quite loud now, should i be worried? I used the correct size feeler gauge and adjusted each valve in the correct order so the drag was minimal but present. Am i overthinking this?
Would appreciate any guidance, thank you!
Hey y'all I've completed the timing belt replacement along some other things (camshaft seal, water pump, accessory belts, tensioner spring and pin). I tried starting the car and now have a crank but no start situation. While cranking, there seems to be a popping sound, almost like a backfire sound, coming from the engine. A fair amount of coolant did spill out of the water pump and onto the crank position sensor a few days ago.
Does anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong? Thank you so much!
I just put on a new timing belt on my 1989 325i. To check if the crankshaft is aligned at top dead center, the harmonic balancer as well as the lower timing belt cover must be on, so I did not check right before putting the new belt on, but it was at TDC before I took the harmonic balancer and cover off (and was placed in gear to prevent crankshaft movement). I turned the engine over one full camshaft rotation so the mark realigned, and after putting on the harmonic balancer and lower timing belt cover, the crankshaft seems to be misalligned (about 1-2 inches clockwise needed to realign).
I'd greatly appreciate any help on how to proceed. Should I take the belt off the camshaft and realign the crankshaft? Or vice versa?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Hey yall, I recently got my hands on my moms 1989 325i, and I thought the first thing I should do was replace the timing belt since the cars been sitting in a driveway for years.
I haven’t ever worked on a car before, but I’m just about halfway through everything (timing belt, accessory belts, camshaft seal, water pump). After replacing the camshaft seal, I put the camshaft seal retainer back on the cylinder head, put the camshaft pulley back on, and while tightening the camshaft pulley bolt, the camshaft pulley moved clockwise about 5 or so clicks. The timing belt was off when this happened. How should I proceed? Am i okay to turn the camshaft pulley by hand counterclockwise till the mark lines back up?
I’d appreciate any help here. Thank you🙏🙏
