Superstore on Sargent no longer labelling where fruits and vegetables come from.

I'm angry about this. The US gov't is still waging economic warfare on us and I am still trying to boycott. Loblaws seems to have stopped putting country of origin on the signs for fruits and vegetables. I have a lot of reasons for disliking Loblaws, but this one is now the top of the list. Is this happening in other chain grocery stores, too?

CBC reported that the MB gov't ordered the City of Winnipeg to pull this year's tree planting money and use it to upgrade a zoo exhibit. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-council-meeting-tree-budget-cut-reversed-9.7272035

So would you rather have trees and their cooling shade and long term benefits, or a spiffier zoo exhibit? I wrote my city councillor and put in a good word for the trees.

About the family needing mattresses. Hoo Boy! Did I get it wrong!

Well, Winnipeg, you proved what big hearts you have and I learned a lot about resources, but I also learned to double check before running off and asking for help. Because we didn't speak each other's language, I made a big mistake in thinking they needed mattresses. They had them stored in the garage and I just jumped to conclusions. I apologize to everyone, but I am so happy to learn how much this city cares about people. You are all great and I will go hide for awhile. Meantime. I hope your mattresses find good homes!

Refugee family has no mattresses. Where can we get some for cheap?

UPDATE: I had another look and they have only a twin bed and 3 bunkbeds with no room for anything bigger. I'm sorry. Thank you to all who offered a bigger mattress. You are all champions!

A refugee family has moved in down the block. They have 6 children, 3 bunk beds, and no mattresses. I'm trying to find an affordable source. A neighbour and I figure we could spring for a couple at about $60-80 each, because we thought that's what Salvation Army charges, but turns out they no longer sell them. I've canvassed the neighbourhood for used mattresses but, not surprisingly, people just don't keep them around. Does anyone no a source, or have a spare bunkbed mattress they can donate? There is also a double bed with only the box-spring. All the children are sleeping on the floor. I'd really like to help them. Thanks for any info or donations.

Seen at about 5:40 pm May 6, 2026 on Lipton St between Yarwood and Notre Dame heading north. Chestnut and blonde female dog, medium, no tag or collar, wearing a pink sweater, ruffled, with "Super Cute" in large white letters on back. Friendly to my dog but wary of me. I hung about for about 10 minutes trying to get her to follow us or allow me to pick her up, but no luck. She had to pee frequently so may be ill. Have reported to Lost Pet Alert and the facebook lost pets pages.
