Here’s my list of plants that I grow or acquire for my bubbles.

King Bubbles’ estate renovation!

I’ve been developing sprouts for a while and finally have them ready for King Bubbles’ ordered renovation for his garden estate and foraging meadow. He seems satisfied. I shall live one more day to serve.

Kevin the PomPom just molted!

Haven’t seen my pom-pom crabs since I first got them months ago lol but I found this guy while I was doing a water change on top of one of the floating hideouts! I saw one of his legs in front of him and realized he came to molt and rest! Also, Gemini AI decided to call him Kevin even though I never mentioned any word close to Kevin lol, so Kevin he is.

Bubbles’ morning routine

Here’s Bubbles in the morning. I lay out the microgreens and grass I grow for him before he gets up so he can forage for fresh greens. I do it again at lunch and dinner. As you can see he self regulates fine. After foraging he comes for his daily deep tissue massage! Recently he let me massage his legs and underside which is a major accomplishment for me.

If anyone wants to keep up with Bubbles more regularly, I started an IG account for him as posting on Reddit is more tedious and I only really use Reddit to share or gather research/feedback/persoective.

Is this a lot of mystery eggs?

Saw my mystery snails mate yesterday and then saw this for the first time! It’s my first time observing mystery eggs and it seems like a lot… she is noticeably less swollen than before laying. Thanks!

Sharing important info I found!

Forgot to include pic; added in comments

As you can see I care dearly about my Mini Rex, Bubbles.

I’m sure this source or references to/like it have been shared before, as I got this via a comment/post from a fellow redditor. However, after 2 months of constant online perusing and researching, until I came across this source, I’ve read/seen pretty much everyone spreading “best practices” which this source debunks/clarifies.

You can use your smartphone/pc’s translate feature if you don’t read German (I translated to English).

Link to German Scientific Reference

It was reassuring to me, who has been following practices guided more by “what would nature provide?”, although I started by following the “unlimited hay and only sparing amounts of pellets and veggies/otherwise that most everyone preaches.

For over a month now, I’ve been laying out 6 types of hay and providing 6+ types of microgreens I grow, plus a variety of homegrown roses and organic/human-grade herb&flower mixtures for him to forage. I observe behavior consistent to the source I reference.

With regard to litter training, he’s been perfect so far, but is approaching 3 months, so we shall see if he retains this and/or how bad territorial marking gets. All of this and more is covered in the source.

Same goes for poisons and toxins (or the concern regarding bunnies eating them if they’re around the residence.

Hope this is helpful to everyone!

Is this big for a bladder snail? (Finger/thumb at end for reference)

Just curious lol - this is in my breeder tank that’s currently waiting for shrimplets to grow up.

National Geographic moment - what do you think it is or caused it?

So this is my breeding tank that I haven’t been touching since it’s housing a bunch of shrimplets. As a result, a bunch of snails have thrived, as well as my floating plants. This morning, I came down, turned on the lights, and saw this magical snail elevator highway that naturally occurred. My best guess is that some central strand of floating plants that grew long from lots of offshooting ended up sagging down from the weight of the snails, and then stayed down from the weight of snails, slime, and mulm… that, or this magically happened to two strands side by side… that, or I have no idea, but now I’m in a dilemma because I need to get the shrimp out at some point but I also don’t want to ruin this fucking amazing natural occurrence…

I need emotional support lol

A couple of weeks ago I found my largest mystery snail (approaching 3 inches) outside the tank on the carpet and managed to snag it in time for it to be fine.

For a couple of days the past week, I noticed it staying near the top (maybe to lay eggs?) and was keeping an eye on it.

As of just over two days ago when I had to leave the apartment for a few hours, I came back and couldn’t find it. Searched all around the tank including walls/sides and underside of tables and such. I checked over 6 feet around. Can’t see any standout snail trails or otherwise. My 20g tank is quite heavily planted enough so that I can’t see in a couple of spots in the middle, but I’ve been watching like a hawk for over two days now and haven’t seen it once.

I’m telling myself at this point that it’s inside hiding, as I don’t yet smell any foul odor around the tank/apartment and I have a pretty sharp nose (I’d like to think).

Is there any advice re: checking methods or how far it might’ve traveled if it did escape?

For those wanting to suggest that I cover the tank, that’s not an option (by choice) as I have floating plants that require the clearance… just caught in a moment of uncertainty and associated minor anxiety 😅

Thanks everyone!

Growing micro greens for foraging

Decided I’d combine my love for Bubbles and growing things to provide an array of micro greens and flowers for Bubbles to practice his natural foraging instincts and experience the closest thing to natural wilderness as he’s gonna get on a regular basis. So far, he’s loving the cat grass mix (wheat, barley, etc…) and as a bonus my partner and I get the added benefit of cost efficient homegrown healthy greens for us as well!

Have broccoli, kale, arugula, radish, cabbage, alfalfa, and a few others growing that are coming along. Definitely recommend the cat grass mix if I were to pick just one. Fastest and easiest to grow.

Female Amano vs 4+ horny males

(Sorry the video isn’t clearer; I only caught this right before a planned water change)

I know succeeding is a long shot but I’d appreciate any non-obvious pointers (beyond “need brackish water and it’s pretty impossible) or hard requirements that those experienced or educated in this space would be so kind to guide me with.

I’ve been noticing one male stick to the largest female Amano I have in my tank for a while, but today I noticed two and then three and then four and then pretty much any male Amano in close proximity to the female get into a frenzy around her as you can see. At the end of the video I think she’s had enough of it and jolt off but I think one manages to stay on which is the one that’s been sticking on since the beginning and I think that she’s protecting/favoring him, but I’m not sure what their behavior is like to this level of specificity.

Looks like I’ll be attempting breeding Amanos soon! Hopefully she’s berried not too too soon since I have 6-8 pregnant neos and caridinas in my holding tank. Might have to get a second holding tank. Have a large bowl for brackish water incubation.

Highly recommended den hack

I noticed bubbles really enjoying tunnels and even more so when I connected two tunnels… So I saw the hay tunnel for sale on Amazon and I had a vision of creating a super-tunnel and den setup for Bubbles that might mimic the best of what nature would have to offer in the wild.

Ever since building this, he literally will not go anywhere else when he’s done playing/foraging/eating/cuddling.

Highly recommend something of this concept - not necessarily buying a bunch of tunnels as I get that can be costly.

I stuffed the den with hay and when I took one of the tunnels out to check on him, he had laid out the hay throughout the tunnel system and lined it so he can lay anywhere inside!

Bubbles finally feels at home

It’s been about two weeks now since bringing Bubbles home; lately, he’s been laying down like this consistently! And I find that he does it near me and tends to move and lay down again when I move to a different part of the apartment and settle there for a while. He makes me so happy!

Travel kit for Bubbles

Getting Bubbles used to going outside being surrounded by strangers and outdoor sounds. Made sure to pack different types of hay, pee pads, and water! Such a well behaved baby. I’m so lucky!
