How to not lose proficiency at other specialties

Hi! I’m currently a CST student, and I’m happy to say I got hired at an orthopedic surgery center! I’m set to graduate in August and I plan on staying at my job for at least 1y-2y. I’m super happy and grateful but I am extremely worried about losing my hand at other specialties. Sometimes I already feel like I have, I’m not as fast to answer general/uro/gyn questions in class. I ESPECIALLY worry about managing counts; as you don’t count instruments in ortho. Is there anything I can do to maintain my hand at other specialties while working?? I want to eventually pick up a PRN at a hospital additionally to my main job, but I’ll see how manageable that actually is once the time comes. Thanks in advance!

Maintaining Career

I’m currently 5ish years into a relationship, and my boyfriend joined the Air Force. He is going to basic in September for air traffic control. I understand that none of this matters unless we are married, but I’m just looking out for/planning my future. I am about to graduate with a degree in surgical technology, and am already employed at a surgery center and plan to be there for at least a year. I was told that (if married) I could do GS and get priority hiring at base/military hospitals if I decided to follow him. I’m curious, how much success have yall had in this? Especially healthcare? Have yall been able to find consistent employment between moves? How does being a gs employee actually work?? I love my partner but I could not give up my career, I love it and have worked so hard for it. I’m happy to follow him if I am likely to maintain employment across stations. I’m very new to all of this, so forgive me if I sound naive or wholly uneducated on the topic. Thanks in advance!!

New Grad Job advice plz!

Hi!! I am a pending new grad as of August. I have an offer from a surgery center that only does ortho. I absolutely LOVED it there during my rotation. However im worried that taking it would cause me to lose my hand at other specialties as a new grad. Or make me less hireable at a hospital/travelling in the future. Opinions and advice? Should I prioritize a hospital as my first job? Would it be feasible to pick up a hospital prn additionally?
