r/ariocarpus

I'm an active moderator of r/cactiexchange and r/lophophora, and I'd like to revitalize r/ariocarpus, which has been dormant and is currently without active moderation.

Ariocarpus is a genus I'm genuinely passionate about. I cultivate and propagate multiple species, and I make regular field excursions to observe them in their native habitat in the Chihuahuan Desert and surrounding regions. Beyond hands-on experience, I have deep familiarity with the broader community of genera endemic to that part of Mexico and south Texas, including Aztekium, Geohintonia, Obregonia, and others that regularly come up in Ariocarpus discussions.

My goal would be to build this into a welcoming, knowledgeable space for collectors and enthusiasts at all levels with clear rules around sourcing (wild-collection vs. seed-grown), ID help, cultivation Q&A, and habitat photography. Given that several species in this genus are CITES Appendix I listed, having an informed moderator who understands conservation context matters.

I'm not looking to simply claim the sub, I'd love to grow it into a genuinely useful community.
