I need advice and recommendations re existing heatpump hot water cylinder

Apologies for the long story.

We have a 10yr old heat pump hotwater system. We recently had solar installed which included a hot water timer. Through the app that controlled the timer we could see the hot water was drawing a ridiculous amount of power. The solar guys removed the timer as they didn't realise we had heatpump system so a timer was inappropriate. Technically this should have returned the hotwater to pre timer state, however the house continued to draw a crazy amount of power.

I turned off the hotwater at the mains and there is an immediate drop in power usage, ergo there is an issue with the cylinder.

Called the original cylinder installers to come and service the set up. They sent an electrician who ran some water out of tank and said the element kicked in so it was working. He noted the heap pump was turned off but he had no idea about heatpumps so couldn't tell if it was functional. (He didnt comment on why the cylinder is using so much power).

That night another enormous amount of power usage (30kw between midnight and 8am with no other appliances on) and we woke up to luke warm water. I *think* this indicates the heatpump is working as it wasn't completely cold.

Of course, called the installer back and they dont repair or services heatpump -they install only. The directed me to the manufacturer. Have talked to Rinnai and am waiting (2 days now) for someone to get back me.

In the meantime I am manually turning the hotwater on at the mains during the solar hours so there is 'some' hotwater and its not costing me crazy amounts in power sometimes using 60+kw per day.

I have just sunk $15K on solar and my power bill is going to be excessive due to this issue. Spending another $6K on a new hotwater system is not in my budget.

How do I get this resolved, like who do I need to investigate what the issue is and repair.

Do I need 2 electricians? One for the hotwater cylinder and someone for the heat pump?

Any advice appreciated!

Maximizing solar/hot water timer (no battery)

First week of solar and trying to make the most of it.

Most energy sites say hot water is the biggest energy user.

We have a 10yr old 310L heat pump hot water system. Ive set the timer up for 4-7am for showers and 1030-330pm during winter. So far have had a steady supply of hot water.

Im obsessively checking the sigen app. It looks like during those hours the hot water tank is continually drawing power however overall hot water is only using 17kW to our total 50+kW per day.

How would you change this set up to save on power?

We are 4 adults in a 200sqm, 1960s weatherboard house with ceiling and floor insulation. We have 2 x hearpumps, one is run overnight at 19degs on very cold nights only. 55kW per day seems like a lot!! Most of us are home most days (night and shift workers)

How are you all tracking your Solar?

Newly installed yesterday. Using Power Edge as electricity supplier. I see a lot of screenshots on here tracking input and export, is that an app of some sort? Ill call the installer on Monday but in the meantime keen to see its all working well

Just wondering if many other people have the same side effects. I basically have an uncontrollable itch. Started on my back, then limbs, its insane. GP has prescribed me steroids and antihistamine and reduced the itch by about 60% bur am on double dosing. Attached to that is a rash that's moving around my body, mostly in the limbs but nothing on my back which is the itchiest spot. The rash comes up after a few weeks of itching that area.

Second side effect is being very very slow to heal. An itchy bite took 8 weeks to go away. It got a bit infected and needed antibiotics. There are a couple of other skin-broken spots that just wont heal.

Im considering quitting to see if these normalize.

Anyone else?

Posted before about my 18yr old kid's, and trying to get them sorted in terms of saving habits, student loans, investing etc.

So they both go to uni and work part time. Both been saving but clearly have different financial personalities. One has saved a bit more than the other but they are sitting around $6-$7K each in my bank account so far.

I want to put this money to work for them in passive funds in a kind of set and forget situation. They will continue saving and contributing to it.

Options

  1. Putting them in different funds to spread the risk.

In doing so, though there is a risk that one fund could do significantly better that the other, putting the other kid at a disadvantage.

  1. I could put them at the same fund but unsure if can I have different accounts(under my name) as they are contributing different amounts.

  2. Put them in the same fund under their own names but risk them having some false emergency (new car anyone?!) and prematurely cleaning it out.

Thoughts?

9.975 kW solar system including:

21 x Jinko JKM475N-48HL4M-DV solar panels rated at a maximum 9.975 kW DC output

1 x Sigenergy 6.0 SP2 solar inverter rated at 6 kW AC output

No battery, but hybrid inverter to possibpy accommodate later.

Also asked for allowance for future EV.

House has 5 adult's in and out most days we use on average 35kw per day Id say mostly in the afternoons.

The panel placement looks to be around 9 north facing and 12 west facing (due to roof design)

I did ask about a larger inverter, they seemed happy to quote it but thought the cost would outweigh the benefit.

Questions:

  1. Is there a benefit to maximizing panels to roof space with the inverter limitations?

  2. Why dows Meridian offer 17c buy back but when I check my address it says 12c -and would you move electricity providers over this?
