Tracking Macros & Nutrients

This is most of my week at a glance (I left out the 4th of July because we don’t talk about that lol) but I’m just now learning calorie deficits and tracking. Are the preset goals in my app pretty realistic? I feel like 222-321g carbs is high for weight loss and I for the life of me cannot figure out how to cut back on sodium it seems impossible.

I would like someone who is more experienced tell me what I actually should be reaching for my daily goals and what would maybe work better for me.. I literally don’t know how to diet or what I should be eating anymore. This whole process has been mentally and physically exhausting. I see why so many people quit.. but I want to learn!

here is a little info about my self

28yr Female
290lbs (starting weight 297)
Maintenance calories 2700
Pre-Diabetic
PCOS w/ insulin resistances & hormonal imbalance
On Wegovy Week 4
Goal weight 145lbs
Workout 3-4x a week at a gym, plus at home workouts.

Topamax first?

My insurance won't cover a GLP-1 until I take Topamax first. Anyone have to do that before starting their GLP-1? Has anyone taken Topamax and had any luck?

What food noise actually is, and why semaglutide quiets it

posted earlier but the link was broken.

"Food noise" gets thrown around a lot here, but it's not just a TikTok term anymore. A 2023 paper defined it as the brain overreacting to food cues to the point where you can't stop thinking about food even when you're not hungry. The 4pm "what's in the pantry" loop on repeat is basically the textbook example.

The part I found most interesting: researchers split food reward into "wanting" (the chasing and obsessing) and "liking" (actually enjoying it when you eat). GLP-1s seem to turn down the wanting a lot more than the liking, which lines up with what a lot of people here describe, where food still tastes good but stops occupying mental space.

The less fun part: it's tied to the drug being in your system. Half life is about a week, and in the big trial where people stopped, they regained roughly two thirds of the weight within a year as appetite came back. Not a willpower thing, just the chemistry leaving. Worth knowing so it can be planned for.

I write about this stuff and put together a full writeup with the actual studies linked (the definition, the cravings trial, the brain mechanism, what happens when you stop). Sharing in case it's useful.

Not medical advice, just what the studies say. Heads up that the link is my own site.

What’s the most affordable glp-1?

Hi everyone! My doctor recently prescribed Zepbound for me as I am insulin resistant. Unfortunately the cost of it would be $500 a month through my pharmacy which is something I cannot afford at this time. We tried appealing it, but that did not work either. I’ve tried using a savings card and it couldn’t be applied. Not really sure what to do at this point and looking for the most affordable option. I know glp-1’s are going to be expensive no matter what, but looking for suggestions on how to get it down to the lowest possible amount to pay. Please let me know what you are currently taking, how much you pay, and what service you went through. I appreciate it!!

Side effects. How soon did they hit you after your dose?

I realize everyone is different so im interested in hearing from folks who did have side effects, how soon after dosing did they appear? Im hearing different things like take it at night so you sleep through the yucky feeling but do they really hit that fast?

Wegovy

Started on wegovy 0.25mg about 3 months ago for 1 month then went to 0.5mg for 1 month. Minimal side effects and good appetite suppression worked great. Then had a month off. Started back up again straight on 0.5mg(doctors instructions ) but I feel like my appetite hasn't reduced this time has been 4 days since first injection. Has anyone else had this issue ?

After you started taking any of these weight loss drugs, do you still care about the calorie density of foods you're eating? Do you still try to eat low calorie foods or now that your hunger is diminished due to GLP1s, it doesn't matter for you as you could not even over eat?

Fridays meds diluted?

So I switched companies from Ro to Fridays a few months ago for cost purposes. I feel like despite upping my dose consistently - the medication simply does not work. Moreso - I ceased having any of the previous side effects I had with Ro - which I thought was great at first! But now I am wondering if there is something wrong with the meds and if anyone else has had a similar experience with Fridays? I've canceled my membership for the time being, and will be back on the hunt for a new provider.

Mr. Yuck Face side effect

Just started my first week at .25, and it kicked in right away, possibly even too much as I no longer like food? It disinterests me, where it used to delight me. I have no other side effects at all, other than this:

One weird thing I am noticing is that I have involuntary Mr. Yuck face after I eat. It is super bad and lasts a long time if I eat something I dislike (like a protein shake), but I get it no matter what I eat. 2 bites in, and my brain says stop eating and I get the Mr. Yuck grimace. The grimace is hard to stop, and feels pretty involuntary. It lasts for up to 2-15 minutes.

Anybody else? Hoping this stops after a while of taking semaglutide. I don't want to walk around perpetually looking like I smell something terrible.

Looking to speak to UK users of GLP‑1 medications about their experiences (UWE research)

Hi everyone, I hope this is okay to share here.

I’m part of a research team at UWE Bristol studying people’s experiences of using GLP‑1 medications like Ozempic or Wegovy (for weight-related reasons rather than diabetes).

We’re really interested in hearing about how people have found these medications in real life, both the positives and challenges.

We’re looking for UK-based adults (18+) who are currently using or have previously used GLP‑1 medications (not for diabetes treatment).

The study involves a one-to-one online interview (around 40–60 minutes), and there’s a small thank you voucher for your time.

If anyone is interested, I can share more details or the link in the comments.

Thanks so much for reading!

Changed injection site and went from worst side effects to zero?

Some days ago I posted on this sub about how I was having the worst side effects on the starting. (0.25) dose of wegovy. I had been injecting into the stomach, and had the same horrible reaction thrice.
I worked up the courage to give the medication another shot (hah), and did it my thigh.

I think i punctured a blood vessel but beyond that the injection went as it was supposed to. I made sure nothing leaked out either.

I am so confused - I have practically zero side effects, it doesn’t even feel like I took the medication. I am having very slightly lower food noise but beyond that it’s not really working. I mean I know there are no official studies on injection site symptoms, but how is this even possible? I went from 100% (if not 200%) side effects to complete 0%.

I just wanna hear peoples thoughts on this. Thanks guys.

Prednisone and hunger

I’ve been on Semaglutide for a year and a half and have about 10lbs left to lose before I’m at a “healthy” bmi. Weight loss had been going great until I had to go onto prednisone for my autoimmune condition. I have been on it for two months, and will continue for at least another two months. Going off the prednisone is not an option at this point, it’s helping with my autoimmune condition immensely. The issue is that I am hungry all the time. It feels like I’m not even on the sema anymore, even though I’m on the highest dose (1.5 or whatever it is). I have gained about four pounds over the past 2 months. If you’ve had experience with being on a steroid long-term while on a glp-1 please share some tips or ideas!

Ready to move to .5mg feeling impatient

I've been on .25mg for 5 weeks and scale hasn't moved infact I'm one pound heavier today than I was a month ago despite feeling full sooner and snacking less.

I took my last shot Thursday but I'm just wanting to do my shot early and bump up to 0.5mg tomorrow.

I've had zero side effects on .25mg

I feel so bad eating around other women.

TD;LR: I make other women insecure about eating and it breaks my fucking heart.

no one except my doctor and my husband know i'm taking it. I lost 60 lbs from lifting and healthy eating back in 2022, and after a depressive episode last year I gained 28 back. I am so happy this medicine exists, truly, but I personally have a sense of shame for myself taking it. it's not fair or ok. it's one of those things where it's like, I love seeing other plus sized people and I find them beautiful but nooo not myself. to note- there is NOTHING WRONG with taking glp-1 and I would never ever judge anyone for taking it.

like many women, i'm a victim of the 2000's skinny epidemic and it's been in my head ever since. that's something im working on in therapy. i've also always had a complicated relationship with food and my body like many/most people have.

anyway

i've recently met this new group of gals. for context, not that I care AT all, none of them are considered skinny.

I have seen this one girl specifically who's a sweetheart who kinda subtly "monitors" (not the right word choice but ya know) how much i'm eating and stops when I do, sees how much I fill my plate and will put some back. it genuinely kills me and I feel so bad for her as I know what's going on in her head cause i've been there too. she never says a word, doesn't even have a judgmental expression. and no this isn't in my head, my husband agreed after the whole gang hung out once.

i've never experienced bad symptoms on it and am still able to drink and eat whatever I want just in smaller portions, which is good. last night we were all hanging out and eating pizza and cake and I took 3 slices, and when no one was looking I put 1 and 1/2 of another in my napkin. I was eating a standard size cake out of a bowl and tilted it up so no one could see I was nibbling it. like I wish there was a way when I was with these gals I could eat a hefty amount.

this is probably a dumb post and doesn't make any sense. just needed to vent/share.

Beware of false advertising!

My experience with HERS Weight Loss has been extremely disappointing!!

I saw a Facebook ad promoting Semaglutide with a “1st Month Only $39” offer. So I clicked it as I have been considering GLP-1 for weight-loss. After completing a lengthy questionnaire about my weight, goals, and medical information, I was shown a total price REDUCED from $199 to $39. The page also referenced a prescription being provided by a medical professional, which led me to believe I was purchasing the medication and starting treatment for $39.

After paying, I discovered that the $39 was only for a membership fee and did not include the medication itself. This was NOT my understanding based on the advertising and checkout process..

I immediately contacted customer support to request a refund because I would of never paid the fee had I understood what it actually covered. I was told that refunds are not provided, even though I contacted them right away after realizing the misunderstanding. So I asked that my “membership” be canceled, but my refund request was denied due to me being approved for medication already.. basically claiming that I met with a dr and he prescribed my medication. (Which I NEVER met or spoke to any doctor.)

As a single mother, $39 is not an insignificant amount of money to me. Paying for something that provided no value and then being denied a refund was incredibly frustrating.

I’m sharing my experience so others can carefully read all terms and pricing details before entering payment information. What I believed was a $39 introductory medication offer turned out to be a membership charge, and I wish that distinction had been made much clearer from the beginning.

Based on my experience, I would NOT recommend Hers (or Hims) to anyone and I pray that others see this post to prevent it from happening to anyone else! I know that I’m not the 1st and won’t be the last unfortunately..
