I finally discovered where "Everything is Beautiful and Nothing Hurts" comes from

I am aware Vonnegut is one of John's favorite authors. I picked up Slaughterhouse-Five from the library and I'm about halfway done. I was surprised to see a version of this quote in the book.

I am also quite happy to learn that I love Vonnegut.

What is wrong with this lemon drop?

2oz vodka

1oz freshly squeezed lemon juice

1oz Cointreau

.5oz simple

Shaken 10-12 seconds (although I don't fast)

Tastes good. But after a few minutes the top starts to cloud up? Any ideas?

Timing Out Connecting Yellight App Account with Google Home

I wanted to connect my Yeelight app account with Google Home and it appears to be timing out. I have the same issue if I want to connect my Xiaomi account to tlmy Yeelighr account.

This is super frustrating since the Yeelight My Station app doesn't allow me to set automation for my Lightbar Pro bars.

Help me figure out where my bottleneck is?

I recently had my cable provider upgrade me from 300Mbs to 1000Mbs (or "gig internet" as they call it).

I have an ARRIS Touchstone CM8200 modem, which is DOCSIS 3.1. I have a Cat5e cable connected to a TP-Link AC1750 wireless router.

Whether connected directly to the modem via ethernet cable, the wireless router via ethernet cable, or via wireless, I have not been able to pull more than 473Mbs, and I seem to be averaging around 300Mbs.

Edit: When connected directly to the modem via ethernet cable, I max out at about 900Mbps. But when connected to wifi, the highest I've ever gotten was a little over 500Mbps on my phone. My newer laptop maxes out at about 450Mbps.

QoS is disabled on my wireless router.

Is there more to check? Should I upgrade to Cat6 or 7 cables?

Is this problem the that the TP-Link AC1750 is a WiFi 5 router? My understanding through limited reading is that even though the TP-Link advertises 1.3 Gbs, in real world scenarios we don't get close to that, especially since each of the router's 3 antennas can reach up to 1/3 of the 1300Mbps, and I suspect most of my devices are 2x2 MIMO so they could only access 2 of the three antennas to begin with. Am I understanding that correctly?

Maybe the solution is a CAT cable upgrade AND a new wireless router?

Service Electric "gig for life" Internet pricing

Someone from my work told me about this. Service Electric right now is running a "Gig for Life" deal. Gigabit internet speed for $49.95 (plus I think there is a fee).

This is for new AND EXISTING customers, but existing customers have to call and mention the fact that you would like this deal.

It is still slightly more expensive than Astound, but they were able to up my speed immediately.

What's really cool is my cost is actually coming down compared to what I had been paying for 300Mbs.

Caveat: You WILL need a DOCSIS 3.1 modem and your wifi router will need to be able to handle gig speeds. That's not a gotcha, that's just the reality of the situation. The modem I was already renting was DOCSIS 3.1 and my router can handle up to 1.3 gigabits, so I don't need to worry about new equipment

It's fine. This is fine. 😬

I don't know why I put myself through this. At level 30. I'll get it done, but, seriously???
