Finally doing it

Full rebuild on my 99 4runner 2wd limited 310k miles complete stock besides the 5th Gen wheels upper ca and a front bumper.

What i have planned is more or less a overland rig for me and the wife when I finally retire from the military im 6'5"(this will play in later)

What ive done so far

•17inch rims, sway bar bushings, steering links, tie rods, jba offroad upper ca, oem lower ca, ball joints, driveshaft, thermostat, alternator 80a

What i have planned

•bought a engine with 109k gonna swap same as transmission for a refresh and then rebuild the old one bc its leaking pretty bad, bilstein suspension, A / T2 all terain Firestone destination tires, sound deadening/insulation, tint, timing belts, water pump, plugs and wires, steering rack bushings, steering rack guide, rear axle seals, dif breather valve, driveshaft center support, front brake swap to the tundra brake set, motor mounts, transmission mounts, denso 130a alternator from the tundra, knock sensor, and alternator harness.

What i dont know

•roof rack setups, tents, accesories

Questions

•can I fit in the back if I build it correctly if i cant whats my best alternative, am I overdoing it, what else am I missing.

No I dont plan on selling it even if it blows up

No I dont plan on doing crazy rock crawling or swimming

Battery light diagnosis

1999 4runner 2wd limited 310kmiles

Last night drove truck fine random abs light pop thought nothing of it went away shortly after. Truck sat for about 4 hours went to go turn it on and battery light went on with the voltage jumping from a usual 14-14.5 to 15 16 with a max of 17.8 turned truck off bought a new alternator swapped the battery just incase bam same thing shot up 17v swapped the alternator again bam same thing 17v went to get it tested and said voltage regulator bad which I already knew. Now onto the 3rd alternator put it in sitting steady at a \~14v with very fraction jumps randomly to 15.1v battery light is staying on. Did I really get 3 bad alternators in a row? Checked fuses everything is fine battery tested good but the alternator also tested good so why the random jumps and why the light?

I've unplugged the alternator and turned key to see if light came on for a grounded dash light and it didnt so its not that ive also checked the plug and it didn't have play in the wires re grounded the battery just incase but still nothing any tips would be great 😀❤️

Follow up on the rusted frame

1998 LIMITED 4WD 109k miles

Here again about the clean body and interior but the non existent frame

Just a follow up after stripping the entire interior and a farther inspection of the underbody i do declare that the rust has claimed this one the fender flares have rust where the plastic clips are the rear hatch has rust holes thru and thru bumper mounts are gone and parts of the underbody are falling off everytime I close a door 💀.

So will be mostlikely parting it out once I fully complete the teardown and assessment of the front end

I dont need most of the stuff and wont make anyone pay the ebay prices just would like to know what some of yall need/want to help out where I can like i said it might be a minute until I know exactly what i need/want and what's available but want to know what people want so I can pull it out just incase.

Advice

Just picked up a BEAUTIFUL 4wd 98 limited with 109k miles for 2k. Engine runs smooth transmission shifts clean starts up no problems. Interior is about the most intact one I've seen from this year that hasn't has a restoration sun roof works 4wd works rear window works clock comes and goes even has the rear cargo cover and it works. 2 owners the guy i picked it up from bought it back in 2001 with 13k miles (title validates this) and has had constant services done (trusting his word) Now you probably thinking what's the catch. The catch is IM IN UPSTATE NEW YORK AND NOTHING SURVIVES HERE 😂 So yeah the frame and basically anything under the car is beyond terrible so either option one i spend the 10k-20k to frame swap and redo the entire underside of it. Or option to pull the good parts out engine trans body interior and put it on my other 4runner that has 309k miles obviously its a no brainer but id like to have other opinions on it.
