ELI5: What's your title and what do you do? No salaries.

I'm considering a career change into Accounting and I think people like me and new kids on the block (high school students and people in general trying to figure out their path) would benefit from hearing from you guys.

I didn't personally know any accountants growing up so I had no idea what this career entailed. Ended up going a different career path out of fear of the unknown, fear of studying it and dreading it. I wish I had a better guidance growing up, but here we are.

Bonus points for sharing any interesting stories from your career (idk, randomly ended up meeting and befriending a celebrity through a coworker, or something)

Career change to Accounting.

Hi! Just joined the sub and I'm having fun reading your posts. I'm currently a Mechanical Engineer (7years), and I'm tired of the manufacturing industry. I don't think I can do this for much longer. Accounting was my Plan B in high school, and I feel like the time is right. Unfortunately, we are in a personal situation where we aren't able to move around free willy for better paying jobs. Gotta stick to a 2hr-radius of my location, and the engineering jobs have gone to shit. Way too many grads, extremely few regular job postings, everything is temp, even if I expand to a 4hr radius. I like what I do, to an extent... I like documentation, I like auditing documents (what are you trying to do, scope, references, statistic strategies, did you do what you said you were going to do, is it traceable, etc), but I just hate the manufacturing industry. Tired of it, but that's all there is.

I've already started the process of enrolling to get my BBA in Accounting. Most (probably all) general classes will be eliminated since I already have a BS in that same university, so cost and timeline reduced quite a bit. Any things I should be on the lookout for this career change? Any warnings? I understand there's going to be a heavy salary cut once ai start, but we're slowly preparing out finances for it (paying everything off, minimum debt, etc)

Edit: I forgot to add... Not sure if it matters but I just want to set up a small office and work until my kid (doesn't exist yet) is out of college. I don't care about working for a big company. Engineering is too unstable.

Why do I need an internet connection to run .cia file?

Found my New 3DS XL this weekend inside a random box in my storage. Hasn't been turned on in years so I went ahead and quickly read up on the latest cfw. Got Luma3DS up and running, installed a game to my home screen using Godmode9, but every time I tried to run the game, an error would pop up saying "Unable to verify distribution information. Please connect to the internet." I was having issues connecting to my wifi so I gave up. Decided to try again this morning and was successful. Managed to connect to wifi, the game booted up and played a couple of minutes before heading off to work.

Has anyone left a corporate job to pursue a career in plumbing?

I'm an engineer in a corporate job. Mid 30s. Getting really tired of all the sucking up, hypocrisy, politics and crap we have to deal with on a daily basis. I don't see myself doing this for another 30 years until I can maybe retire. Pay isn't as great as people think, but it does the job. I'm a salaried employee, so employers love to push for unpaid overtime Bills are paid and food always in the fridge. I can't move too far due to family reasons so other engineering jobs near me are close to none and the engineering field right now is oversupplied (too many engineers graduating, very little job openings).

I don't live in the US so my mileage will vary from you guys. I just wanted to create a one/two man plumbing service company that will allow me the flexibility to take care of my family without having to jump through so many fucking hoops and suck up to bosses for permission to take care of my family's medical issues.

My plan was to go to school (one year here) while saving up and slowly buying tools on my engineer salary (getting everything set up), work two years (required for Master Plumbing) as a solo company doing jobs here and there, and call it quits on engineering within the next 5.

Am I in way over my head?

Slow office days

How do you keep yourself entertained on slow desk days? Its funny how its ok if people are on their phones, but I can't take out a book or a little sudoku book to help pass the time.
