Super El Niño

We originally planned to visit Bora Bora and Taha’a at the end of March through early April. However, this super El Niño has me extremely nervous. We’ve pivoted to July but it’s costing us $5k more. I just can’t imagine spending this kind of money on a trip and risking the type of weather that can come from super El Niños.

So I am here to ask - is July a truly safe month? Obviously there’s always a risk of rain, but is it more than likely going to be worth the $5k extra to make sure I’m not spending my entire time in French Polynesia in a down pour? 🥴

Hoping some locals or frequent visitors can chime in

Desperate to wear shorts again

Hi everyone. I am looking for those with personal experience and suggestions.

I am 40 years old and have had varicose veins since I first got pregnant at 27 years old. My left leg is worse and the bulging rope vein starts at my foot and travels up to mid thigh. Also have issues with spider veins.

I hate my legs. I refuse to wear shorts or short dresses, even in the horrible summer heat. I am so embarrassed of how my legs look. My husband and I are planning my dream vacation to Bora Bora (going a year from now), and I just want to be able to not hate myself in a bathing suit. 😭

I have contemplated the vein surgeries for years but have a friend who has had 8-12 of them now and she swears she regrets ever doing it. She has had varicose veins pop up worse in other places. Every time she gets a surgery new ones feed somewhere else. I truly don’t want to spend the money and go through all the mess if that’s what’s going to happen. Has anyone else experienced this?

Are there any procedures that aren’t as invasive that help reduce the appearance of these veins?

Help 🫠

I am taking my dream bucket list trip to Bora Bora in July. It will be a once in a lifetime thing for me.

I keep going back and forth on what I want to do. I have decided on an end of pontoon Mountain View OWB at the Westin for half of my trip but am truly torn on the other half.

I could do the other half of my trip at Le Taha’a (a separate island) in a beach bungalow. I have heard great things about this resort and island.

However, I could save $2k and do a beach bungalow at St. Regis instead. This resort has always appealed to me but I have heard it can seem dated and also that the food is very expensive. We are doing the package where breakfast and dinner is included, so I’m not entirely sure the food prices sway me either way.

I really want to make sure this is the best trip it can be and I’m starting to stress about making the wrong choice.

Has anyone stayed at either of these resorts that can offer pros and cons? Bonus points for anyone who has stayed at both!

Almost out of nowhere I have these red patches on my face. There is a large patch on my left cheek and a small red patch on my right cheek under my eye. They aren’t raised, they don’t itch, but they burn off and on. It’ll be fine for a while and then suddenly I feel like my cheeks are on fire. My neck also feels like it’s on fire (especially under my chin where it connects to my neck), but no visible redness there. However, my chest has a few red spots and also feels like it’s burning off and on. The burning sensation always happens at the same time (cheeks, neck and chest at once). It comes and goes throughout the day with no real trigger that I’m noticing. When this happens I feel very hot but then cold shortly after. Then, the burning goes away and the cycle repeats.

I will note that the red patches on my neck randomly appeared after a trip to New Orleans back in October. I thought they were bacterial at first but eczema lotion ended up clearing it up. They’ve come and gone since then but seemed to clear up with eczema lotion each time. However, this go round the lotion isn’t working on it. The eczema lotion also hasn’t worked at all on my face. I’ve been applying colloidal oatmeal lotion to all areas with no real improvement.

I turned 40 in April. I have older friends who were this is the beginning of hot flashes, but I’m just not convinced. I assumed the red patches would come and go with hot patches, but they stay whether the burning/hot sensation is present or not.

I am a little fearful it may be the start of rosacea. It seems the symptoms align with that.

I haven’t used any new skincare that I can recall. I have started to use a light retinol lotion on my arms and neck recently but not sure if that could be causing this.

I’m unsure if I should be making a dermatologist appointment or an appointment with a different specialist who would deal with hormones. Hoping someone here may be able to shed some light.

Thanks in advance 🙏🏼
