One weekend EV5 6 week update

For those who didn't see my earlier posts:

I took delivery of my Kia EV5 Land in Ontario, Canada on May 8. The next day, while the vehicle was sitting in my driveway, the battery state of charge dropped from roughly 85% to 35% over the course of about an hour.

I returned it to the dealership on May 11. The vehicle currently has only 193 km on it.

To date I do not know what exactly is wrong, how they are fixing it or when it will be completed.

What I do know is that I have been told parts or tools have been ordered specifically for my vehicle. I have called Kia canada various times and spoke with the dealership. I have been told everything from tools, battery control module, battery module, one person from Kia Canada even said 'I think its an engine'. lol

I have no confirmation as to whats been ordered.

What I do know is that my vehicle will need to be shipped to Waterloo for repair at a specialized facility when the parts show up there. The 'backordered' parts are 'estimated' to arrive in Waterloo July 20th. That will be 9 weeks after taking it to the dealership and then they STILL have to ship the vehicle away to do the repair!!

The dealer has been supportive and I am driving their loaner. Kia canada customer service however, has been unhelpful in any meaningful way.

I have filed a CAMVAP application to get my money back. The clock is now running on a CAMVAP arbitration to get my money back vs Kia fixing it and me being stuck with a car I now do not trust or want.

For those who are waiting for their ordered car, think long and hard about it and what service you will get if god forbid anything goes wrong. For those who have their car, pray it doesn't break down.

One weekend EV5 second update

It’s still at the dealer.

I was in contact with the dealership last week. They said they are still waiting for a part/tool from Kia Canada. They are waiting on Kia Canada and Kia has been ’cryptic’ with them. I called and spoke with Kia Canada Friday and all they could tell me was that a battery control module was ordered.

I spoke with the service manager at the dealership Saturday and they told me that Kia has asked for authorization to have my car shipped to Mississauga for repair at a specialized facility. They estimated two weeks for the repair but could not give me any firm timeline.

As of today, it’s still sitting at the dealership. I have removed any personal belongings from the car. My intent is to start a claim with CAMVAP to arbitrate a buy back of the vehicle if it is not repaired by the end of the two week timeline.

Nothing about this scenario is acceptable to me but I have remained calm and patient. I do not expect to see the vehicle in my laneway again however as I have zero confidence in its being repaired any time soon or in the vehicle in general.

The one weekend EV5 update

It's still at the dealer. They have been updating whenever they hear anything from Kia Canada.

They have determined a cell is not performing properly in the battery. It does need 'a part'. They are currently waiting for a shipment from 'the tool department thats designated for my vehicle'. That shipment is supposed to be here by the end of next week. The dealer doesn't seem to know exactly what's being shipped nor do they know 100% what the path forward is. Kia Canada seems to be running the show.

I am not optimistic at this point that I will be getting the car back any time soon.

On the bright side, the loaner is a Sportage hybrid, it doesn't suck also they are going to reimburse me for fuel and hey, at least this way I am keeping the mileage down on my new car? I mean it was starting to get up there at 193kms... lol

Well I had one - for a weekend

I picked it up Friday and absolutely love this car. Then Saturday things went south. I drove it before lunch for a short trip. Came back out to run some errands and the charge had dropped from 78 to 31%, just sitting there turned off. Called the dealer and they said that’s obviously odd and to bring it in Monday as they had no techs available on the weekend.

Drove it a little bit more and it was down to 28%. Put it on my level 2 charger and set it at 80% max charge. After less than 2 hours and 11kW it said it was at 80.

I drove 30k Sunday and it was down to 68%. I decided to charge it to 100 to see if it would relearn what a full charge was. It took less than 6kW and was at 100%. The dash said that I had 195km range.

The dealer has had it since Monday at noon and they are still diagnosing it. Waiting on Kia Canada techs apparently.

Anyone else have anything like this happen? I hope it’s a software issue because I highly doubt there are many parts in Canada and I want my car! lol

20 hours and it fails. Not confidence inspiring.

I got it!

Was a delay with registration in Ontario but they got it sorted out yesterday. Sounds like mine is one of the first ones if not the first sold in the province. That’s pretty sweet. I am loving this car.

Canadian EV5’s

Has anyone actually bought one in Canada. I was supposed to pick mine up today but apparently the VIN is not in the system so they hadn’t register it with Kia finance and won’t be able to get me plates either? This is super odd to me.

Is it my car in particular? Has anyone else been able to register one? I would think so?

I happened to see one on the lot at our dealership (SW Ontario) on the weekend. I wasn’t even looking for an EV5 in particular, I was just driving through to see what they had. Today I drove it and I fell in love. They hadn’t even gotten it in their system with a stick number yet it was so fresh on the lot. I bought it an hour ago! First EV and first brand new car.
