Insurance- WTF?

Just got several quotes for 2022/2023 M3 LR.

I live 2 hours from Toronto, over 30 & have 1 speeding ticket for 20 over.

I’m being quoted $370-$470 PER MONTH.
For reference I pay ~$150 for a Toyota sedan & a 750 bike atm.

Broker said it’s cause any damage done to the battery = write off the whole car.

Are they even worth it? I’m paying $800/ month gas on my ICE car but there’s no savings to be had on a Tesla.

Any suggestions on cheaper options with a 500lbs range?

High Mileage EV Lease

Good day,

My commute has changed significantly over the last year. I drive a truck and get around 12l/per 100km which wasn't bad when I was commuting less than 20kms roundtrip and gas was 1.35 a liter, but now I'm commuting 110kms and gas is almost $2.

I'd like to purchase a new EV truck in the future, but I'd like to wait out as manufacturers are coming out with new vehicles. I'm looking for a cheap commuter EV for a few years that I can lease.

Has anyone been able to haggle more mileage for the lease agreement? If so, how much more did it cost you?

What is everyone using for charging between Kamloops and Calgary now that On the Run is gone?

We make the trip from Kamloops to Calgary a couple times a year and used to use On the Run. They were a great balance between price, convenience, speed, etc but are now all gone apparently.

The stops that work the best for us are usually Revelstoke then either Golden or Canmore or both. They're pretty evenly spaced along the route and work well for our family (4-5 people + dog).

Electrify Canada are fast and reliable but crooks at double the cost of On the Run others. Telsa superchargers exist at some stops but we don't have an adapter (yet) and would prefer not to support Tesla unless we really have to.

Revelstoke and Golden both now only have 50kw stations outside of EC and Tesla. ABRP claims a 200kw Petro Canada station but PlugShare doesn't show that station and I've heard and had mixed experiences with Petro Canada.

Guess we're just stuck with 50kw stations or Tesla (+cost of adapter) until either On the Run installs new ones (which seems doubtful) or another player comes in?

Battery with little driving

So my current combustion car has periodic battery trouble because sometimes I don't drive it enough.

My worry is that this will be at least as bad and maybe worse for an EV.

Any infrequent drivers out there? Maybe 1 trip of 20 km every 2 weeks is my estimate of what I currently do. Although I do a bit better in summer and a bit worse in winter.

Thanks in advance!

Solterra vs bz today

Anything ill miss about one if i pick the other?

Toyota apr right now is 6.59% while subaru is 1.49%

That alone is a big difference.

Toyota still has the 10k total discount. Subaru is at $11500

Am I going crazy or does the Kia EV4 Wind not exist in southern ontario?

I'm in the Kitchener area and put down a deposit for a EV4 Wind (not wind premium) back in late April. I've been waiting for the car to to be available since then. Out of curiosity (and impatience) I started looking at other dealerships in the surrounding area to see if there are any EV4 Winds available. While I can see the light, wind premium and GT line trim, I don't seem to see any Wind trim. Are they still around or is it just a time of the year thing? 1st time buying a car via a dealership so I'm not too well informed on what's going on.

Mach-E in canada : What's your real autonomy?

I'm wondering if in winter i'll still be able to do 300km.

It says 488 with extended range, but what's the loss. What's your experience?

Bad cell but only needs BMS replacement, is this right?

My EV9 has been showing weird charging behavior so I took it to Kia. Before sending the car back, I plugged in an ODBII and saw one of the cell has lower voltage (4.02V for that cell and others at 4.08V). After their local certified EV technician's diagnostics (also some back and forth with Kia Canada), they came to a conclusion that BMS needs to be swapped out. Since it's a BMS, it's going to be a lot faster than swapping out the HV batteries.

I'm asking the EV pros here that if a bad cell can be fixed by swapping out the BMS module? I'm always having the impression that a bad cell needs to be swapped out. If BMS causes problems, we should be seeing problems on other cells as well.

Help Me Decide: Q8 E-Tron Sportback vs. EQE 500 SUV vs. BMW iX xDrive 50

I can pick up all of these cars at a similar price of 70k and they are all a 2024 model year with approximately 20k kilometers.

At the moment, I would say I am leaning towards the Q8 E-Tron Sportback based on looks and range. Additionally, I have heard good things about Audi service in Vancouver.

Feel free to recommend any other car in a similar price range.

First ev experience Vancouver

Decided to rent an ev to see what this is all about. Got at Tesla 3 in Vancouver from hertz.

The speed on these things should be illegal lol

I enjoyed:
the fact that there’s no emissions out my rear
The steer assist
The braking off gas pedal
Trying an alien case experience
the Star Wars gun reloading sounds on lock

I disliked
The insurance rates
The the charging fees. Context: 16$ Tesla charger for half a battery while I understand 4 $ at home overnight is a thing for a full battery.
The lack of chargers
The bubbling sounds coming from the batteries
Inability to use my phone to auto lock and unlock
The entire idea of locking and unlocking things only through the front screen
The seating position
lack of Apple car play?

I discovered new things about evs
I’m sure there’s lots I haven’t figured out

The only way I’d ever own an ev is with a home charger. Ironically I put one in last week but don’t have an ev.

Ioniq ICCU extended 15-year warranty in Canada? True or false?

Numerous Reddit posts and even a couple of online EV mags have referenced an extended 15-year 290,000 km extension of the Ioniq warranty being applied retrospectively (and pro-actively) as pertains to affected ICCU units. Given that Hyundai and KIA don’t seem to have solved the ICCU problem (someone please correct me if I’m wrong) this warranty extension could be a deal-maker for us. We are strongly considering an EV9 but are scared silly by the ICCU problem, particularly the possibility that it makes the vehicle untenable after the basic 5-year warranty (or is it the 8 year?) runs out.
FWIW, the salesman at our local dealership in Ontario says he hasn’t heard anything from head office yet about an extended warranty for ICCU’s.
Has anyone seen official literature about this? Or are we all just bandying around the same rumours …

Best looking tesla ever!!!!!

106,581 km on the clock and she still looks like she just rolled off the lot. 🖤🔥 Bought this Model 3 brand new back in 2023 as my very first Tesla and my very first EV — and let me tell you, it completely rewired how I think about driving. The acceleration never gets old. The minimalist interior never gets boring. The supercharger network never lets you down. Three years of pure ownership bliss. But you know how it goes — you catch the Tesla bug and suddenly a Model Y is calling your name. 😅 Upgrade incoming soon and I genuinely cannot wait, but this Model 3 deserves all the credit for making me a Tesla lifer. Whoever gets her next is getting an absolute gem. 💎 Drop a 🖤 if you’re a Model 3 owner or if you’re about to make the jump to EV — would love to hear your stories! #Tesla #Model3Nation #TeslaMotors #EVCommunity #ElectricLife #TeslaCanada

Why no charging receipts?

I've been testing Tesla chargers with my now properly setup Plug and Charge (PnC), but why is there no proper charge receipts when using the Toyota App or just PnC?

A few days ago, I used the Tesla App and I received a PDF of the transaction from Tesla.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get receipts from transactions?

Thank you.

The final nail in Journie's old chargers?

First the fire caused by the adapter in Hope and then this.

The FreeWire units were OK (not meant for a long weekends, but great at 6am on a Tuesday in winter) but I really like the new 400kW Journie installs.
