Edit hotel: Mondrian Hong Kong

Had a quick 2-night stop in Hong Kong on the way to Japan, so it seemed like a good opportunity to use the Edit credit. My husband and I each booked a room for 2 nights (one for the teenage kids). Used points so we paid $1.49 per room.

Great service, central location, very nice gym with sufficient equipment. Good breakfast (not a buffet, but sufficient options); nice view from the restaurant. We were able to check into our rooms at 10:30 am. They had just flown from Boston, so the early check in was appreciated. Used the $100 credit for room service right away.

The hotel doesn’t have a lobby or other common spaces to hang out in, and the roof deck was being renovated. But the price was right! HK is a fabulous city. I’ve spent a lot of time in mainland China, so I was glad to have a chance to see how different the two are (and Macau as well).

Gift for university student

In 2018, I did a homestay with a wonderful family in Xi’an for 4 months as an exchange program. I’m a high school teacher, and I was chaperoning 8 students from my school in the US (Boston). I visited them again in 2019, and we have stayed in touch.

Next week I’m going to visit the daughter of the family. She’s now a student in her third year at Jilin University, and I’ll visit her there for a few days. We were super close when I was living with her family, and we are excited to finally see each other again.

I’m trying to figure out what to bring her as a gift. We share a love of cats. She is into music (organizes events and sings a little). I’d appreciate any ideas for things a Chinese student would find interesting from the US.
