How do I select and lock the 2nd point with the Wanderwand? I've tried, Left click (1st point) - Right Click (2nd point), Left Click (1st point) - Middle Click (2nd point), Shift + Left Click (1st point) - Shift + Right Click (2nd point), and none of those has worked. please help.

In 2023 when I first got Minecraft 1.20, I was mining underground for around 2 hours and found a gigantic hole that I've been confused about ever since. My render distance was 16 chunks, and the hole stretched from one end of my render distance to the other (around 16 chunks wide). It was about 50 blocks deep, went down to the deepslate layer, and was completely empty.
It wasn't a giant cave or a ravine. It literally looked like someone mined out a massive rectangular section of the world and replaced it with air blocks.
I accidentally fell into it and lost the world, so I don't have screenshots, coordinates, or the seed anymore. I've been wondering for 3 years what could have caused it. Has anyone ever seen anything similar or know of a terrain generation bug that could explain it?
