Supplier suggestion - Manchester based

Hello,

I got solar panels installed earlier this summer and now want to explore heat pumps. Can someone make recommendation for suppliers to carry out survey, calcs and quote.

Heat Geek seem to be mentioned a lot but also recently seeing mixed feedback on this sub.

3 bed, 1930s semi-detached, general insulation is poor. But will be improving such as cavity wall and maybe floor insulation as it’s a suspended timber structure.

Maybe worth mentioning boiler is only 3-4 years ago. Should I wait for it to get a little older? But also seeing gas prices through the roof so I think heat pump with solar battery setup compliments each other well.

Best way to remove render bridging DPC…some airbricks partially buried too

Looking for advice on the best way to remove concrete render at the base of my wall that is bridging the DPC.

Background: older UK semi detached property, the render runs along the bottom of the wall and appears to be sitting over/bridging the DPC. Some of the airbricks are also partially buried by the render and raised ground level. No damp inside currently but want to sort this properly before it becomes a problem. I was looking into cavity wall insulation and the contractor said that the cavity is the only thing preventing damp inside the house and told me to get this sorted first.

Questions:

  1. What's the best method to remove the render without damaging the brickwork underneath? Chisel and hammer, angle grinder, SDS drill?
  2. How do I make sure I don't damage the DPC when removing the render?
  3. Once the render is off, if the bricks underneath are in poor condition, what are my options — repair or replace?
  4. Given some airbricks are partially buried, I'm planning to install an ACO drain where the white bricks are. Does this sound like the right approach?

Photos attached. Any advice appreciated!

Hey everyone,

I just started assembling my new Weber Master-Touch (E-5750) purchased from BBQ World, and I’ve run into a bizarre situation. It seems like a major factory packaging error.

The Issue:

My box says Master-Touch and came with the Tuck-Away lid bale and the GBS grate. However, the bowl has no pre-drilled holes to attach the lid bracket.

The Weird Part:

It’s like I have a mix of three models in one box:

Master-Touch parts: 20cm rugged wheels, GBS grate, and lid with a thermometer hole.

Original Kettle Premium parts: The bowl (no side holes) and the height.

Height: It measures around 100cm to the handle, but the Master-Touch is supposed to be 107cm.

Missing: No Char-Baskets or Charcoal Rails were in the box at all.

The lid appears to be Master touch as there is a hole for the temperature gauge.

Has anyone else seen this happen recently? It’s a 2024 model (Serial prefix FV).

I’ve already reached out to the retailer, but I’m curious if it has happened to anyone or whether I just got a complete lemon of a box.

I was tempted to drill holes and getting on with it, but don’t want to risk the brand-new porcelain bowl!

I’m currently reviewing my setup and trying to figure out if I’m on the best tariff for my hardware. I’ve got an 8kW inverter with 18kwh of battery storage, plus a decent solar array.

I’ve been looking at Octopus Agile for the plunge pricing, especially since I can "flash charge" at 8kW when rates go negative, but I’m torn between that and Intelligent Octopus Go for the guaranteed import rate. With a future heat pump in the works, I’m trying to optimize for winter load-shifting.

For those of you with larger battery stacks, what are you running?

- Are you finding Agile worth the effort of tracking the half-hourly rates?

- Anyone managed to get Agile Export paired with an EV tariff (IOG) or is it strictly one or the other?

- I hear flux is off the market. Is that the best one out there and should I keep an eye when it comes back?

- what about other suppliers like EON and EDF?

Would love to hear some real-world feedback before I pull the trigger on a switch.

Cheers!
