I dont believe marriage makes people happy.

it does help remove negative emotions. but if you're unhappy and insecure, marriage will not make you happy. it won't change that in you. you'll just be unhappily married.

having a loving and supportive partner does help remove anxiety, stress, sadness and the like, but that's great if you're already happy. happy and miserable people both deals with those feelings. but if you're unhappy for whatever reason, marriage won't change that.

Is what Dr Michael Greenberg said a bunch of bugus?

for pure o, he said you can't push thoughts out your head. that is honestly a bunch of baloney. sometimes that happens automatically by your own brain. i don't see or feel anything wrong with pushing them away as long as you did not do the compulsion which is ruminate. if you didn't ruminate, your good despite whatever else you did.

he say things about looking at the thoughts, pushing them away and what not. i know it's not good to suppress thoughts, but a small knock is fine. i see nothing wrong with bracing yourself either. that is not a compulsion, you are not actively trying to solve the obsession. An example of something similar is hugging yourself if it helps you feel better. if the hugging itself or the bracing itself is to make the actual obsession go away, then no. not allowed at all. but if you're doing it for that reason. if you're not doing it to make it go away, you're helping yourself to not engage, that is a plus.
