Pitch and Putt at QE!

Hey, noob golfer here. 39F. I’m bad, averaging about 5-6 shots per hole. Looking for P&P friends! Yay!

Please message me if you’re:

- available to pitch and putt at Queen Elizabeth
- available sometime in August. Please let me know when you’re available so we can schedule something in!

I’m lowkey busy with moving, but I’m on holidays for August so I’m keen to get out for August. I definitely want to golf as much as possible. I’ll definitely be down to golf the rest of the year but I’m really looking to connect with people who want to get out on the course right now!

About me: friendly social dork vibes. I’m in school (off for August), I work and volunteer and have a couple of hobbies (literally two, I need more: one niche sport and the gym so if you have ideas for other hobbies, lmk, or want to join). I’m fortunate to be the most ridiculously and happily partnered person so I’m just looking for friends.

Please message me if you’re free in August and keen to come out; I tend to get a lot of messages but there’s a lot of yapping that, sadly, I don’t have time for (moving; it’s mostly moving right now) so please just let me know when you’re able to come out. Probably useful to know what age you are.

We can also just do the front nine//one hour if you don’t want to commit to the whole course or two hours of full play. So also let me know how much you want to play!

If you’ve messaged me before, I’m sorry: I just had such a massive deluge of messages. I tried to respond to all folks but there’s a lot of yappage. Feel free to message me with a date//time for Queen E that works for you.

39F Looking for QE Pitch and Putt friends. **newbie alert**

I’m new to golf and usually take 5-6 hits (clearly not the right term) or worse but I’ll stop at 6, ofc. Sometimes I’ll get a par. Usually a few 4s, maybe 1-3?

Anyone want to pitch and putt at QE? Let’s yap.

FYI, I'm not hot or super cool, and I am somehow very happily partnered up, so I'm just looking for a friendly study buddy.

Hillcrest Community Centre Gym—going tonight (ie Wednesdays) from 5-7 PM?

Edit: I likely won't have time to respond to messages or comments today but if you're interested, feel free to just come. Say hi! I'll be there - Asian woman, 5'9ish, in black shorts/tights and black t-shirt, wearing glasses. FYI, I'm not hot or super cool, and I'm fortunate to be very happily partnered up, so I'm just looking for a friendly gym meetup! Cheers all.

Hi—I’m a 40F who goes to the gym with ease in the AMs but struggles on weekday evenings.

I think Wednesday evenings (and possibly Monday evenings?) would be a great time for me to go. Would love to ensure that I get to the gym and it would be nice to get know more people in the city!

I do have a set workout plan but on Wednesdays, I’m open to working out with someone if it’s helpful (I’m not super-experienced but I can offer some insights. There’s also an attendant you can ask questions.)

I might just be doing an hour of cardio (I sit SO much on Wednesdays) and a little lifting. Might not be a full two hours. It’s just bonus. A gift to myself after my longest day of sitting.

Looking to get some work//studying done tonight (Tues July 14, from 530-730?) at a cafe, ideally near Riley Park.

40F. Just posted not too long ago. But wanted to make a specific one for tonight. I have a kitten midterm on Wednesday!

We can watch each other’s stuff while we take work or bathroom breaks!

Cheers.

Looking for someone to work at a cafe or library with! Fri-Sun.

40F. Studying and would love to work with someone at a cafe or library. You don’t have to be studying. Maybe you just want to get shit done. But I’d like to see someone, say hello, get out to a cafe or library - I’m so much more productive outside of the house - and get work done.

Bonus: we can watch each other’s laptops during bathroom breaks.

I’m in Riley Park//Mount Pleasant but open to cycling out to folks.

Edit: could do more weekdays!

My availability, generally speaking:
Mon-Thurs: I’m available from 5-7 pm
Fri-Sun: sometime between 1-7 pm

A two hour chunk of time is what I was thinking would work best for me! But I’m open to other times (open to trying to stay longer or happy if people join for a shorter time!).

Frank Talk Time: Social Work (vs Nursing), Entry Level Jobs, and Age

Hi--

I'm 40. I'm in Vancouver. I'm struggling between choosing nursing and social work. I work in neither field nor adjacent ones.

Everyone says nursing--and I get it. The narrative I hear about nursing is that new grads with a BScN are hired at hospitals: the public sector pay, the benefits, the stability.

The narrative I hear about social work and fears that I have: I'd be an old-ish grad, competing with plucky, fresh-faced grads or less-fresh-faced ones, older folks, but people with an arm's length of experience working in the social sector. I wouldn't be hired by the Ministry - that's the dream, the full-time job, the stability, the benefits - and I'd be cobbling together an existence on PT work from many fields, working nights at a homeless shelter, receiving low pay from different non-profits*. I would do well academically, I think, but I know that doesn't matter much.

My concerns with nursing: it's not necessarily my dream--yet. I've learned to keep an open mind about things. I haven't explored either field very much. My ideal job in nursing would be education, outreach, community-oriented roles, I think? I think. I'm not sure. In some ways, I think I could flourish in nursing--the movement, the physicality of it. I used to work in vet med, and I appreciated not being locked to a desk. I'm active. But I am getting older. Maybe it's best to have a less physical job? The schooling for nursing is going to be such a brutal, time-consuming, sleep-schedule-destroying grind, too. But nothing in life is easy, of course.

Anyhow: TLDR: Am I right? Is my idea of post-grad existence as a new middle-aged BSW grad right? Is it a challenge to land a job with the Ministry? Any and all insights are deeply appreciated!

*I have been using social services since I was little. I had suffered physical, emotional, and sexual abuse since I was 6 - and was eventually put into foster care at 12 before running away permanently and being homeless since I was about 15 until my early-mid 20s. I also suffered sexual abuse (rape and pregnancy from my rapist) while homeless. I share this to explain that I've been a client of social services in different fields for a long time, and from what I've gleaned, it seems like many of the workers who helped me worked multiple jobs. But I'm not entirely sure - I'm not sure yet - that this is a terrible thing. Some of my happiest times were working multiple jobs - less burn-out? But I'd like to know what to expect! Cheers and thanks.

Frank Talk Time: Age and employment for new BSW grads (BC)

Hi—

I’m wrestling between selecting nursing and social work. I’m in BC. I’m 40. I don’t currently work in either field or an adjacent one. If I did my BSW, I’d graduate at the age of 44-45, and I’d be competing against plucky, fresh-faced young folk and less fresh-faced older ones with loads of experience in the field. I would do well academically, I think, but I know that doesn’t matter too much.

What’s my goal: like everyone else, I want the benefits of a stable public sector job. I’d love to work for the Ministry, I think.

Frank talk: I would apply for social work, no questions, and enter the field, but I’m leery about the stability, opportunities - or lack thereof - and benefits in the field. Pulling low-paying night shifts at homeless shelters*. I feel like it’d be a struggle to be hired at the Ministry. As mentioned, the narrative I have in my mind is that I wouldn’t be hired quickly.

This is a massive contrast to the story I hear about nursing: even if you’re a new grad with nothing but the experience you have from school, you’re going to be hired to work at a hospital. You’ll be set.

Is the idea of I have life as a new, older grad with limited work experience correct?

I’d love to hear any insights people have—I’d be grateful for them.

*Is this part of the experience of being a BSW grad with limited work experience? You graduate and spend several years cobbling together PT jobs at different non-profit agencies?

I’m a former foster care kid, a former homeless youth and young adult, and that seemed to be the experience of all of the workers I met at non-profits.

For anyone who’s lived in the States/Canada AND Germany: is veganism more popular in Germany?

I’m vegan and was surprised to see that this is the biggest subreddit in vegan and vegetarian food.
