Every day I’m fighting for my life in the exclude tags section

And yet I always forget one and then come across some fic where Dick is randomly Neal Caffrey?! 😭

What’s a dead giveaway that the author is from a particular country/region?

Once I was reading a fic and came across the term “comfort room” and was a bit confused. I looked it up and apparently it’s commonly used in the Philippines to refer to the toilet/washroom. Now every time I see it in a work, I assume the author is Filipino :)

It’s just very cute the way that certain linguistic expressions can bleed through a person’s writing.

Why are toddlers such picky eaters from an evolutionary point of view?

Most kids around 3-7 years old seem to eat very little and seemingly never get hungry but also have boundless energy. Most other young animals eat pretty much the same as their adult counterparts (both quantity wise and dietary preference) so why are human kids the exception?

Is there any better feeling than this?

I just entered a new fandom and I’ve been giggling and kicking my feet for the last couple of hours, devouring fic after fic. My bookmarks are flourishing, the kudos button is being pressed at light speed, the plot bunnies are plotting. I am thriving. I am whole.

There’s one in every fandom

Was thinking about the character of Erica Reyes who was only in S2 of teen wolf but features in over 20,000 fics, albeit as a side character. Back in the day she was a staple in Sterek fics as Derek’s friend/packmate

Wake up guys! New censored word just dropped

I’ve seen “seggsual” but “seckshual” is a new one for me. Unless the writer was just being cheeky?

What’s the pettiest reason you’ve ever dropped a fic?

I dropped a fic once because the main character hated a cuisine and it just so happened to be my favourite cuisine. It wasn’t even important to the story, just a throwaway detail but I was pissed off and dnf.

One of my favourite parts of finishing a fic is going through the end notes and reading about all the research the author’s has done for their fic.

You read a whole law book to make a court scene more convincing? You’re amazing, author! Your hard work made the story so much better!

You trawled for hours on google maps just so you could realistically describe a character’s street? Author that’s great work because now I can easily visualise it in my head!

Author all your time spent watching surgery videos was not wasted! I loved the accuracy in the medical scenes and the your efforts made it all so believable!

Every little tidbit of info that a creator has looked up to improve their story is a blessing to me as a reader. It’s the cherry on top of the cake to read about all the time and effort spent to perfect the story and now I get to bask in the beauty of all that hard work!

So writers please if you feel like any silly niche thing you spent hours researching went unnoticed by readers, rest assured that it is still appreciated! We see you and we love you.

A good example of this is from the Teen Wolf fandom where for ages we didn’t have a first name for Sheriff Stilinski’s character so everyone just decided that it was John. It got to the point that there’s a tag for “Sheriff Stilinski’s Name Is John”.

Later it was revealed that his name is Noah and while newer fics do use that, in the early days anything other than John felt like a jarring aberration.
