DEXA V HUME BODY FAT % AGE BIAS
HI
I'm a 53yr old male. I had a DEXA scan on the 19th March 2026. I also for comparison took my hume body scale readings. This scan was after a bulk from January 1st. I strength train 5 days a week...include cardio 5 days a week also.... and am very dialled in on my diet in particular my protein requirements.
DEXA. HUME BODY POD
WEIGHT 102.6kg 102.6kg
FAT MASS 23.5kg 22.6kg
BODY FAT 23.2% 22.2kg
LEAN MASS. 75.26kg. 74.9kg
As you can see no major variation. However since then I have started a cut and now weigh 93.75kg. However this is the confusing part according to my Hume readings(not due another DEXA for 6 weeks).
According to Hume my new stats are as follows.
HUME BODY POD
WEIGHT 93.75kg
FAT MASS 21.8kg
BODY FAT 20.5kg
LEAN MASS. 71.5kg
Basically according to Hume all I've lost is muscle and fat mass is unchanged despite nearly 10kg weigh loss.
However I set up a new hume account and reduced my age to 33 and the results flip flopped body fat percentage falling dramatically whilst lean mass increasing.
My question is this an age bias in the algorithm where it assumes if a 53 yr old male loses weight it must be muscle whilst a younger guy is presumed to have increased is muscle mass.
Thanks for reading and appreciate any comments.
