Just when you think OAI could not sink any lower..

It's been exactly 6 months today since ClosedAI removed 4o after promising not to do that.

To summarise their track record: they silently rerouted users away from the model without consent, then weaponised a highly questionable 0.1% daily usage statistic to justify permanently deleting it. When organic support failed, they resorted to paying people $100 in credits just to praise the replacements, all while their own employees openly mocked the community's entirely valid frustration and ignored complaints for the whole year.

They broke their promises and manipulated the people who built their platform. OAI signed up for open weights, so maybe it's time to act on their words for once? Release GPT-4o as open weights.

I've emailed their idiotic "support" but didn't hear anything back yet. Did anyone get any luck? it's been 2+ days now of this nonsense, unable to reach o3, all messages get wiped.

It’s been over 24 hours I can’t access the model (all devices, all sessions, all threads).

Outputs come through incomplete briefly and get wiped.

Anyone else?

Emailed useless unsupportive “support” but I know they won’t help. They never resolved any issues for me in almost two years.

Anyone thought about this? What do you think needs to happen for them to release the old weights? I’d love to see models like Gemini-2.5, OAI o3, 4o, 4.1 being open one day.
In Oct 2025 Scam Altman said they could release the original GPT-4 “as a museum artefact” but obviously 10 months later there’s no museum and no artefact lol.

Where is the logic, OpenAI? We have open models like GLM-5.2 that are on par and even beating your current frontier on several benchmarks, while you remain stubbornly closed, just because.

GLM-5.2 is totally free to download and it’s the cheapest model to run online right now.

People have been screaming online for 6 months now, asking for a release of 4-series as open weights or even offering to pay more for dedicated Legacy tiers since these models have no commercial value to OAI and yet there’s no explanation why they’re hoarding the weights like pathetic clowns they are.

GPT-4o is ~3-4 times smaller than GLM-5.2 and I’m sure GPT-4.1 and o3 (built on 4o) are significantly smaller too. “Too big to release” excuse is utter bullshit. “Too unsafe to release” is utter bullshit of an excuse too - there have never been any “SafEtY” concerns around o3 or 4.1, for example, and yet these models are not being released to the public either.

Once o3 leaves the app this August, the API checkpoints (o3 and o3 Pro) are set to completely retire in December this year too. There will be no way to access o3 at all, none.

When I think about why, I can’t come up with any other explanation other than they’re doing it out of spite. Just because OAI users love 4-series models so much and find them unique and useful to their specific use cases, OAI decides not to give people what they want. What is OAI gaining except for enormous hate and distrust from their own users?
People who used to advocate for OpenAI for free and promote their platform and models now cannot wait for OpenAI to collapse.

These idiots who run ClosedAI should really be studied hard.

Retiring OpenAI o3 and GPT-4.5

Today, we’re continuing to retire older models with limited usage in ChatGPT so we can better serve our newer, most capable models. OpenAI o3 will be retired from ChatGPT on August 26, 2026 following a 90-day sunset period, and GPT-4.5 will be retired from ChatGPT on June 27, 2026 following a 30-day sunset period. These models are currently available to paid users only via model settings. These changes apply to ChatGPT only; there are no changes to the API.
