TL;DR
has anyone here tried sewing your own rope protector?
So I do urban rope climbing, meaning the rope is attached to something extremely sturdy like a concrete pillar or steel beam and then I climb on the rope itself using an ascender and foot ”prusik”/caterpillar. I’m very new to having my own gear; for years ive only ever climbed with other peoples setups and never had to worry about the ropes or damage to them, but I’m finally confident enough to start climbing in my home city with a friend in the same boat.
My home setup from the 2nd floor balcony has a towel rolled around the rope at the 90 degree angle over the balcony edge, because the concrete is sharp and I don’t want to damage the rope.
I roll that towel new every time since I can’t have it be out there and get wet etc. This means that apart from setting up the rope, strapping myself in and all the other steps I also need to finnick with the towel
I looked up rope protectors and they seemed very expensive for something that seemed to be basically just a padded fabric tube?
My neighborhood has a ”freeshop” where people drop off clothes they don’t want anymore and half the stuff there is broken beyond repair
Was thinking if I just layer like 8 layers of denim fabric quilting style to make my own rope protector?
Or neoprene?
Has anyone tried this?
Looking for advice. I’m scared; this is new for me and I don’t know what’s happening or what to do.
TL;DR:
Seasonal pattern for years.
Lexapro since last fall.
Tapered out 1 month ago bc doing better in spring (as normal)
2 weeks ago: Prednisone induced some sort of hypomania (according to intake Dr. at psych+my therapist. Next Dr discharged bc ”caused by ADHD meds, not true hypomania”)
”Up” slowed w day schedule+forcing myself. Feels almost like enforcing depression.
Now:
Mood swings up and down in a scary way. Scary bc never happened before. Not sure what to do. Not sure if even bipolar. Or just ADHD w extreme seasonal patterns.
Grateful it’s not depression all the time but strange and unsettling that it swings between such extremes.
Scary that before the prednisone my mood was good-stable. Then I stopped sleeping and thought I could turn my friends shed into a livable house with 0 experience using only scavenged materials.
——-
So I sought help at a psychiatric unit after taking a systemic steroid that made me exhibit what my therapist felt was hypomanic symptoms.
I was discharged after 5 days, with a strict daily schedule and other advice on how to slow myself down that ive been trying very hard to follow
I normally get a brief up period every summer around this time where I sleep less and do much more but normally it escalates slowly so I’m more of a frog in a boiling pot and don’t really notice it.
I have winter depressions every year and the summer up swings I use to compensate. I feel like a squirrel collecting food for winter but instead of nuts it’s new friendships, relationships, projects, hobbies, etc.
Important context might also be that for some weeks before the allergy meds I had slowly slowly tapered out my lexapro - most years I don’t need them during summer.
Anyway, so I’m following that schedule and I’m trying to instead of follow my urges and impulses, question them instead. Ive normally not done this.
Normally I welcome the summer drive with open arms and just follow it wherever it takes me.
But now instead I’m using a timer, I’m taking breaks, and when it’s working **instead of bringing me back to where I was before the ”up”, I’m instead back down WAY down**. Like I’ll scare myself by having a thought like ”whats the point of anything at all”, or other anhedonia moments.
It’s like I’m having bursts of sparkling inspiration for a few hours and then down almost to full depression and then a good song comes on and I’m back at the top of the world.
I feel like my ADHD meds are the only thing holding me together; the hours when they peak I reliably have inspiration and motivation.
This has never happened to me before. Normally the mood is up early summer, slows down slowly and follows the seasons predictably
Now I’m getting whiplash and I don’t know what’s happening.
I’m slowly titrating my lexapro back in since I quit without really talking to my doctor and maybe it’s just the kind of summer where I need it. When I was younger I had a few years I needed them year round.
But im getting restlessness and anxiety from the lexapro just as I did when I started taking them this fall after some years off them.
Psych ward sent a request for contact with my new psychiatrist (old good one retired) who was of absolutely no help.
I mean it. I didn’t even get to see the doctor, only a phone call with a nurse.
Who sent my request for beta blocker for the akathisia and anxiety to the Dr. 3 days later I get a script for melatonin.
My friend might let me live in their tiny raised shed. But for winter my friend is very concerned with mice moving in if I’m gone for a month or two if I have a bed and insulation in there. I don’t intend on keeping anything edible near the shed but we live in Sweden so warm/insulated spaces tend to be enough.
I can’t rebuild the shed or anything. No major construction rework.
What can I do? Do the mice just want all soft materials? What about a tiny amount of electrics fence around the parts of the shed that are in contact with rhe ground?
Hi! I was brought in on Wednesday and given 15mg olanzapine and benzodiazepine. I slept until Saturday. Took my ADHD meds Saturday and had a lot of energy daytime. But evening time back to exhaustion. I’m still so tired
Is it still the olanzapine? Or is my body just tired from the sleepless week that brought me here?
For years ive suspected I might be on the bipolar spectrum. I have ADHD and every single year in the fall I get these extremely deep depressions
And in most summers, to varying degrees, I have phases of intense productivity, and just extreme intensity in general where I have an extremely hard time sleeping, cannot seem o make myself go to bed nor stay in bed in the morning
I suspect I might be going into that exact stage right now. I’m having a really hard time sleeping. It is 3:30.
It seems taking a sudden emergency dose week long steroid cure for my asthma may also be increasing this I suspect
I want to get a good nights sleep. Or, I want to feel tired and relaxed
Normally when I skip vyvanse it lets me sleep for something like 12 hours, with multiple naps durng the day
Could it be an option to try that? And if I, rather than the normal stimulant withdrawal sleep I instead don’t feel tired even though the withdrawal is physiologically super intense, then I maybe seek some sort of psychiatric treatment?
My doctor retired and they don’t have a replacement until September so currently it’s digital 5-10 mins with GP or full blown psych hospital and they only take the most extreme cases which I absolutely am not
