Is Jacquard Orange Neon impossible to rinse off, or is there a trick to it?

My first time using this particular pigment, and for the life of me, I could just not get the water to clear out until I had to stop because I could feel the yard begin to felt. They were only a couple of stripes painted directly on an area of resist and then steamed for about an hour. The colors down photograph very well, the base is way darker, so the neons are very dramatic.

Trying my hand at self striping sock yarn. So. Much. Work.

I tried my hand self stripping, so using the method where you stretch this game very long, Mark sections in each of them individually. I use some of my leftover dye, and oh my God, it was so much work. So much detangling. I almost had a heat stroke. Much cussing. But when I finally was able to pull this all into a skein, it was instant love. I had to cast on TAAT socks immediately, just to see if the math was mathing. And it was. I clearly need to rethink my process a lot if I want to do this again.

Analysis Paralysis… Help!

I recently took up dyeing my own yarn. This batch here (sportweight Shaniko wool) here is the result. I want to die some light blue background for a multicolor sweater, to use up the numerable little balls of color I have. Unfortunately, due to operator error, he came a little bit darker and more where you get it than I intended to, then I decided to throw some sprinkles for a good measure. I do love the result.
However, when I started switching for the sweater, I had originally made discovered for, the gauge was delusional - 22 st/in sport yarn in US four needles. But the time I was up to size 8, I was still not there, and I hated the fabric, so I scrapped that project.
Next came a different project, Nomad Stitches Faro sweater- and this year was way too busy to allow the color work to shine. Scrap that.
I still love this yarn, and I want a project where it can shine by itself, better find myself, totally paralyzed by choices, like nothing is good enough for my baby! So I thought I would put it up here and see your suggestions
(I am still making the Faro sweater, just with a much lighter background that would need yet to dye)
I just finished a sweater that took me two years to complete, and having another big sweater project is like an itch I can’t scratch

Thank you all! My dye reproducibility is much improved

I posted a while back about having trouble getting color consistency, which wind test die when custom mix in color in the final results. I had some very good advice, I got a jeweler scale, mixed from dry powder instead of volume of premix stock, kept meticulous notes, mixed slightly larger volumes. This has improved my results by leaps and bounds! Here are some pretty from couple of sessions. I was experimented mixing grey as a base with other colors, using a lighter resist and some spikes of saturated color on the white areas. Very happy, thank you all!

Consistency in mixing custom colors: advice welcome!

I am a new-is home, hobby dyer; i am starting to dye yarn for my own projects and i have a little group of friends we dye together to pool resources. One if the parts of the most is dyeing my own custom colors. I am having trouble, however, getting good reproduceability, and I would like some tips on how I can get better at this.
Example in the picture: Dominican in the middle was supposed to be a base color, a very soft yellow green. The idea was to develop the orange and yellow colorway on the left. I was looking good the sample, but when a mixed dye at larger amounts, I ended up with avocado green, and had to shift gears in the last minute and create the color where you see on the right. What it is very pretty, it is not what I was looking for.
One of the problems I am having is that I was mixing the sample with too small amounts of dye (let’s say 10 cc) and a small change goes a long way, especially since I am not using precision tools to measure. Another problem I can think of is that I don’t have a good way of testing the color as I am mixing in.
I would love any advice on how I can improve my process and develop a reliable custom recipe!
