V5 "Encoder Complexity", HEVC Profile Main10/HDR10

It looks like we got a bunch of new settings in V5? Encoder Complexity is one I can't figure out.

I don't see it in the manual?

https://f005.backblazeb2.com/file/MotionCam-Public/Manual/FULL%20USER%20GUIDE%20for%20MotionCam%20v.1.0.0.pdf

Using HEVC Hardware 10 bit, I see a Profile box I don't think we had before, Main 10 I am familiar with from FFMPEG. I see we have "Main 10 HDR10" and HDR10+. Any details on what these are? Is it just a metadata thing for HLG/PQ HDR? If so, does it make sense to have them for Log tone curves?

For Prores, the Profile box is where you pick quality, Proxy, LT, etc.

GP-Log2 Documentation is up

https://gopro.github.io/labs/log/

u/DANewman posted this link on another post of mine, I didn't see it anywhere online yet, so wanted to make a post.

This is what the new 'Mission' cameras will use.

Appreciate GP publishing all the info for GP-Log2 so we can have proper color management for it.

I posted to Resolve feature request to add to their color management, Any bets on how long, if ever, it takes to get into CST? At least can have DCTLs until then.

https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=236588

They have a tool to customize the LUTs for exactly how you want to shoot https://gopro.github.io/labs/gplog2/

I foresee a big learning curve here for many users, much 'more rope to hang yourself with' situation.

If the GP team hasn't already contacted Black Magic, please do. V21 of Resolve should be going live soon and would be a great time to get the new log added to their CST system.

Color Management options for GoPro Log

TLDR: Use Thatcher Freemen's DCTL if you are in Resolve Studio. For other users, my Rec709 LUT is more accurate than the official GP one.

I had previously done Delta-E testing of a variety of Color Management options for DJI's D-Log-M. This is repeating that methodology with my GP13

You can read all the details on my website, but I will summarize here. I also have have posted the LUT I built from test charts, but spoilers, Thatcher's DCTL is better.

I took a shot of my X-Rite Color Checker Passport Video and brought it into resolve to apply conversion to sRGB using various tools. A still of that was then brought into Babel's Patch Tool to test the Delta-E numbers against the published LAB values for the test chart.

The 4 tools I compared;

Conclusions

The Official LUT from GP is convenient for some as it converts directly to Rec709, but this is also problematic as you can't work in a common color space (such as DWG/I) across multiple cameras. It also has the worst accuracy in all the metrics we tested. GP appears to have backed a slight 'look' into their LUT with excessive contrast and saturation.

Thatcher's DCTL is the winner in my accuracy tests, and the price is certainly right as they have made this tool Free and Open Source. It converts your footage to DWG/I and from there you can apply a CST to take it to any other color space if needed.

Xtreme Stuff's DCTL is nearly as accurate as Thatcher's. It has many more settings in it and supports the entire range of GP products. This flexibility may be an advantage for some users, or 'more rope to hang yourself with' for others.

Python Lut. The automatic python tool I built doesn't appear to produce as good of fit a Thatcher and XtremeStuff were able to achieve. I hope to continue to tweak the program to produce better results. It is available on the github link above, so I look forward to others trying as well and reporting their results.

I have posted the GP-Log to DWG LUT for Resolve users. While not as accurate as Thatcher's offering, DCTL use is paywalled in resolve, so my LUT is available to any resolve user.

As well, I have burned that LUT down to a 65 Cube with the resolve DWG/I to Rec709 CST burned in for use in tools like PP or Final Cut. Any color grading should be applied before this LUT for most flexibility

If anyone knows of any other options out there, please share and hopefully I can add them
