sibo cannot be cured with an antibiotic ??

so i always come to reddit for second opinions and honestly , i trust yall more than doctors .

my gastro wants to prescibe me XIFAXAN for sibo .. but reading comments on here , i see a lot of yall say that an antibiotic cannot cure sibo and in most cases makes it even worse so i guess i just wanna ask again and see what yall think , i am scared to try the XIFAXAN bcuz i keep reading really bad things about it

confused by what my gastroenterologist told me

i’ve been having really bad bloating and feeling like there’s a brick in my stomach whenever i eat and just general inflammation all over my body , swollen legs , face , etc .

so i went to a gastro for the first time and she sent me for a stool test to check for parasites , and wants to put me on an antibiotic for sibo , but when i mentioned to her that i was told many years ago by a naturopath and a functional doctor that i have candida .. she said to me , “that’s not a thing” .. and just didn’t wanna talk any further about it .

what should i think about that ?? i haven’t been to doctors in a couple years but many years ago i have seen naturopaths and functional doctors who have always told me i have candida , so her telling me that it’s not a real thing just kind of confused me .. so i wanna know y’all’s thoughts bcuz im not sure where to go from here or what to believe anymore .

starting cetirizine and famotidine , what to expect ?

idk why but i’ve been scared of starting any medications for a while , but i just saw a gastroenterologist for the first time today and so far this is what she prescribed me and im gonna be starting it tomorrow , 1 10mg tablet cetirizine a day and 1 40mg tablet famotidine twice a day

my main symptoms are swelling and water retention , i eat and my face blows up , my thighs are so puffy that it’s hard to walk sometimes and i just feel like a marshmallow , i also have the bloated pregnant looking stomach and i just feel uncomfortable in my body all the time so any good experiences with these medications ?? should this help me ?? my gastro said that if this doesn’t help then she’s gonna put me on xifaxan for sibo

just lmk , i’m so scared bcuz i haven’t been on medications in years

need to get rid of water retention

i’m about to start my raw vegan journey this week and hoping this will help my water retention so i thought i’d just ask if anyone has had this experience ? i’ve heard a lot of people lose water weight fast after transitioning to a raw vegan lifestyle so i have a lot of hope that this will help me .. i’ve had a problem with retaining water just like the last couple years since i got diagnosed with MCAS but whenever i ate meat it seemed to get so much worse , so i’ve been vegetarian but i definitely retain water from dairy too and grains and anything soy .. it seems like my body tolerates fruits and nuts the best so do yall think i could get rid of this water retention for good with this lifestyle ?? 😭

can i do this diet including sweet potatoes ?

but that would literally be the only cooked food , nothing else .. just fruits , nuts , lettuce and maybe carrots and hearts of palm cuz i can’t do cruciferous vegetables .. oh and coconut milk and then the only cooked thing would be the sweet potatoes .. and i wouldn’t even eat them everyday maybe just like twice a week , is that ok ??

healing with water retention as a main symptom?

so im sorry i know i ask a lot of similar questions , and i recently asked if anyone has been able “heal” or recover from mcas naturally just thru diet or lifestyle changes .. and i know most of you say its not possible BUT what if the main thing im trying to heal is water retention ?? like literally no anaphylaxis or hives , just this inflammation all over my body that makes me feel puffy like a water balloon :( and a stomach that looks like im pregnant and a moon face.

has anyone had this issue and been able to heal or treat this without medication? is there any good diets that can actually fix this? i’ve tried so many different diets and although there are certain foods that make it better and certain foods that make it so much worse , i still haven’t been able to get all the water down for like the last 4 years 😭 idk why but the only reason i still think it’s possible to fix this with diet is bcuz ive seen how much better it gets when i eat like just lettuce and avocados and nuts , and how much worse it gets if i eat rice or potatoes or anything like that then my legs are legit tree trunks and it’s uncomfortable to even walk 😭

so idk is there any hope here? has anyone found the perfect diet that completely got their water retention down? idk i am open to trying medications now tho if it’s really not possible to stop retaining water without medications

an allergist i saw completely dismissed my mcas

so i guess just to answer from my last post kind of ?? idk if some of yall saw my last post , if yes then yall know i got diagnosed by a functional doctor just thru my symptoms and i saw so many comments suggesting i go to an allergist / immunologist or GI .. well after getting diagnosed with mcas by this functional doctor , i actually did see an allergist .. but this allergist legit made me fearful of seeing other allergists 😭

i told him my symptoms and said that a functional doctor diagnosed me with mcas .. and u know what he said ?? literally smiled and his exact words were .. “that’s what they all say” .. literally , that’s it . completely ignored me and proceeded to do a skin prick test for food allergies and everything came up negative so he just told me to try zertec and sent me on my way 😭

i’m currently scheduled to see a GI but im scared and just hope that she’s knowledgeable in mcas .. but i guess my question is , like should an allergist even act like this ?? like aren’t allergists supposed to know about mcas ?? idk but any advice would be appreciated

is it really mcas ?

so i’ve never been tested .. but i got diagnosed based off my symptoms by a functional doctor i saw twice .. i only saw him twice cuz he was crazy expensive and i couldn’t get the tests done but based off my symptoms , he told me i have mcas .. so for the last few months ive believed that i have mcas but now i’ve been reading more on this subreddit and im starting to question if i even really have mcas ??

mainly bcuz i see most people have an issue with histamines , and the most common symptoms i see are anaphylaxis and hives .. i don’t have any of this . literally my main symptom is water retention .. like full body inflammation and bloating to the point that i can gain 10 pounds overnight .. but histamine foods don’t trigger me at all , in fact i’m fine with them . what triggers me the most is lectins , like grains and legumes .. which i see most people on this subreddit tolerate rice when that is probably the worst food i could possibly eat .

so idk .. i think i need to find an immunologist covered by my insurance but until then .. is it still possible that i have mcas if i don’t have anaphylaxis or histamine issues ? or maybe just water rentetion is not mcas and a completely different condition that i could have ?? idk just wanna see what yall think

raw vegan lifestyle for MCAS ?

been wondering about this a lot .. i know a lot of yall might have never heard of MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) but i’ve heard people talk about healing other conditions with raw veganism so im wondering if it would help me with my MCAS symptoms somehow ..

i used to be just vegan , but since getting diagnosed my doctor said i need to eat meat again .. so i tried and i think it’s only made me worse , genuinely my inflammation seems to get worse everytime i try to eat meat .. i don’t tolerate legumes or grains or many vegetables , but i’ve noticed that i feel my best when i eat fruit and certain nuts .. so i guess im just wondering if thats something i should try .. like literally stop listening to my doctor , drop the meat and just listen to my body and try to just stick with fruits and nuts for a while and see if it helps my symptoms ?? so many non vegans tell me this wont work so i just want some opinions from vegans :)

i need to get a chipped tooth filled in

so my bottom front tooth is chipped .. not a lot like it’s not even really noticeable but i need to get it filled in to stop it from chipping more .. idk why but im so scared of the filling and since getting MCAS , i’ve just been so scared of the dentist and whatever is being put in my mouth ..
i’ve only went to the dentist once since getting MCAS and it was literally just for a cleaning , and i didn’t really have any reactions other than bloating which i was told could have just been from swallowing the stuff being used for the cleaning ..
but i haven’t had any cavities since getting MCAS and from my understanding , the same filling used for cavities would be used for a chipped tooth too , right ?

sooo basically my fear is , will i be ok with the filling they use to fix my chipped tooth ?? like has anyone had this done before ?? can i safely have this filling in my tooth without my MCAS reacting to it ?? what is even in the filling that they use ??

idk , maybe im just being too paranoid but id rather ask and know for sure than worry if its safe or not .
