Okay, Fables....

I had posted a few weeks ago about how I was coming back to REM. I pretty much walked away after Awakening (sorry I meant Reckoning) and Murmur, no reason, just went to other music I guess. Largely, the recommendation here was to just pick up where I left off and start listening.

Yesterday I listened to Fables while driving. Damn, what an excellent album. While I generally avoid the hits, I forgot just how cool Can't Get There is. And the deep cuts were (to me) better than the hits: Maps and Legends, Old Man Kensey, and (freaking love this one) Good Advices.

So I guess it's time to pop another REM CD into the car and do some more driving!

Buyers of Crystal and China Seacoast

Does anyone know of a business that purchases china and crystal in Southern NH? My neighbor's wedding was 50 years ago and she has all the crystal from the wedding as well as a full set of china. She no longer wants to hold onto this stuff, so just asking if you all know any business that would buy this stuff. Not sure if pawn shops would.

Rediscovering REM

I discovered REM about the time of Murmur. I bought that album and Reckoning and then for some reason, jumped off the bandwagon. Recently on the radio, they played Strange Currencies, and from the jangly distorted opening to Stipe's amazing phrasing, I wondered "what else amazing have I missed from REM"? Not into the big radio hits (Losing My Religion, etc). What are the best two or three albums after the first two loaded with great deep cuts that I shoud seek out in your (humble) opinion?

200A Main Breaker Issues

I posted this last year:

https://www.reddit.com/r/electrical/comments/1is04mt/200a_main_breaker_with_no_physical_resistance/

Today we had a storm blow through and the power went off and on several times over a ten second span. Then stayed off. I pulled the portable generator out and hooked up the main cable. When I went in to shut off the 200A breaker, it just slid to off. Normally it takes a pretty herculean effort to move it off or on. I moved it to on and it had very little resistance. Not wanting to mess too much up and just get some power again, I moved it to off and turned on the generator breaker (moving the interlock kit).

I went outside and started the generator and flicked the main switch to on. The generator's RPMs definitely dipped for a second, and when I went in, nothing worked. So I went outside to check my cable and all that, shut it off, do it again and same thing: the RPMs dip for a second, but nothing works inside. Why would this happen?

So I gave up, came inside and moved the main breaker to on. About ten minutes later power came back and the house is on street power. I am concerned about the health of my 200A breaker (again)! I hesitate to shut it off and see if it has any physical resistance, but I also don't want the breaker, if it's screwy, to start a fire or something. It was replaced last year.

I appreciate any thoughts you all might have.

2008 Nissan Altima

My neighbor calls me in a panic yesterday to say her car won't start. I figured she's having trouble remembering to press on the brake, then press START. So I go over there.
If I press BRAKE, the dash lights right up like it's ready to go. Press START and it goes dark. A few more tries and I get the click-click-click when I press START. So I jump the car.
It immediately starts once we connect the cables. I check her battery and it has a 5/25 sticker on it, so it's pretty new!
Parasitic drain? With these cars, if I shut the car off (Press STOP) and remove the key, does anything stay running? I imagine dome lights would stay on if a door is ajar. The cabin fan could not run, correct? Should I remove the battery cables and apply some vaseline and then tighten up real snug? Does vaseline do anything or is that an old wives tale thing?

Appreciate any help. I'm going to run it over to the auto store and have them test the battery. Maybe it's had a tough life even though it's fresh. She bought the car used, so we don't have a lot of history on previous issues.
