Rebar Rooster

I found this in a random parking lot. I think it's pretty cool and I might grab it, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't stolen

Fob weirdness - interference?

I've had my 2024 for about 2 - 1/2 months now, and it only came with one fob, which has worked great from surprisingly long distances until now. I was surprised last night when it started working very intermittently, even from close distances, while on a trip a couple hundred miles from home. This made me very nervous so I ran out late at night and found a place selling the right batteries, totally overpaid for it, and swapped immediately. Surprisingly, this made no difference in how it worked at the hotel, but I discovered in the process that it was working fine everywhere else. It didn't work any better with the new battery while I was there, but it's been working fine ever since I left. Has anyone else ever had an experience where a fob malfunction appeared to be localized?

Help! Traditional plant uses

Full disclosure, I'm on a midnight deadline for a WWU course and this assignment just got away from me. Looking for someone with personal knowledge of traditional plant uses - could be medicinal, textiles, or anything else interesting. I'm willing to pay for your time. (DM to discuss)

-

*The Assignment*:

Interview an elder about traditional knowledge about plants/food/cooking/gardening.

-

Keeping in mind the themes from Braiding Sweetgrass, interview someone about uses of plants, which may include food, cooking, or gardening. *Ideally, try to interview someone old enough to remember uses of plants that may not be common anymore*. Post a description of the conversation or a transcript of the interview itself in your response here.

-

*My questions*:

  1. Please describe a traditional use of plants found in your area.

  2. Tell me a bit about how you learned this practice.

  3. How does it relate to your social circle, faith tradition, or other group?

  4. Is this practice connected to any specific relationships in your life or work?

  5. Is this knowledge in danger of disappearing?

5a. If so, why? (Replaced by industry, etc).

5b. If so, what is being done to preserve it?

  1. How do you benefit from this knowledge?

  2. Do you think other people should learn about this?

  3. If so, how can they get started?

  4. Is there anything else you'd like to share?

-

If this is something you can help with today, please comment here or message me. I will add an update here if I find answers elsewhere. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!

Ideal PSI for hybrid efficiency

Apologies if this has been covered but my searches found nothing recent. I've had my 2024 PHEV for about a month and the tires are at around 38 cold, close to spec. I was an early adopter with a Volt and the GM recommendations were criminally low, so badly that running spec pressure produced all the classic signs of underinflation - edge wear, chipping, more frequent blowouts, etc. After the community figured it out, most of us ended up running much higher PSI and not only dramatically increased efficiency but got way more life out of our tires.

I love efficiency, and I don't mind a stiffer ride, so I'm wondering, for those who pay close attention to tire pressure, what do you think is the best setting for efficiency? And what's the tradeoff like for tread life?

Used rack install - surprises and improv

First, many thanks for encouraging me to hold out for OEM.

It took me weeks of hounding the junkyards up and down I-5 but I found a set. Funny fact, they told me the crossbars were gone (they were just stowed) so that may have helped with the price.. $134 plus tax so about $150.

I already ordered crossbars separately but hopefully I can return them.

I watched a couple of YouTube tutorials that helped understand how the parts go together. None of them prepared me for the fact that the full OEM kit comes with trim pieces to cover the bits of the channel that remain exposed with the rails installed. These rails had been off the vehicle for a while, so those pieces were MIA.

When I figured this out, I had already removed the long skinny covers but not the fat ones in the rear. I located my hacksaw, dry-fitted the rails, measured everything twice, and started cutting. The front pieces were easy - I cut them to 17-7/8", cut the outer flanges at an angle for extra coverage (probably needless) and slapped the remnants back on. The back ones, I was afraid to remove because the videos show the clips and trim often breaking. I carefully popped the forward clips and flexed the caps upwards with some props, slapped a little masking tape around to protect the paint, and slowly and carefully sawed them off at 10" and let them fall back into place. I had to go back and notch them a bit for the posts to fit - I'd just cut them straight at 9-3/4 if I had to do it again.

At this point, I'd been at it for 3 hours (hesitancy + cleaning + ADHD) but was feeling pretty good about rising to the challenge. Moment of truth, the rails fit perfectly and everything looks great. I'm looking forward to hauling boards and boats around the coast this summer.

Green golf disc found

If it's yours, tell me what the other half says.

It's a nice one. I'd be pretty bummed if I lost it myself.

Roof racks

I just got a '24 hybrid and need racks - it's the PNW summer and my fams and I are all about paddling and camping.

MOPAR has the rail/rack kit on back order with no estimated date. Should I chance it? I want to figure this out ASAP

Custom roof racks?

I just got a Pacifica van. No rails, only bolts. Factory rails and racks are on indefinite back order, and even if I could get some, the weight rating is a little low for my intended uses (camping/bikes/boats). OEM knockoffs are rated even worse, both for weight and quality. Word is Thule/Yakima are OK but not guaranteed to fit well. I know custom can be pricey, but would like to at least check out some options. Any local recommendations?
