In A Quiet Place: Day One (2024), the movie ends with the main character, a terminal cancer patient, alerting the alien creatures to her location so she can finally die. This is in reference to terminally ill patients in the US having easier access to killer aliens than euthanasia.

Do not protest, STRIKE!

Protests in general seek media attention and visibility by blocking public streets, highways, or other public spaces. Sometimes they are loud, sometimes silent. And they are not necessarily limited to blocking passageways, but in current times it seems that protesting has turned into deliberately disrupting the lives of ordinary people who have nothing to do with the issue being protested.

What are you trying to achieve by making life miserable for everyone else? We are all in the same every day struggle as you, we have jobs to get to, children to pick up, appointments to make, and other responsibilities to manage. Life is hard for everyone already as it is, why are you making it harder?

If you have something to protest, why not take your protest directly to the people who have the power to do something about it? Protest outside the homes of cabinet members, in front of government buildings, or wherever the wealthy and powerful responsible for the decisions you oppose can actually feel discomforted by your form of protest. GO ON STRIKE. Hit directly the pockets of the rich and the positions of power of the people in charge. Every single right we have today was won by striking and spilling worker's blood. That is how you get everyone to support your fair cause.

When did we lose the ability to strike and instead became complacent in the current form of protesting?

TIL that Sherpa is the name of an ethnic group in Nepal, not a term for a mountain guide. The word is often used to refer to Himalayan guides because many Sherpas have historically worked in mountaineering.

Other animals are much smarter than we care to admit or educate ourselves about.

Take the spicebush swallowtail caterpillar, for example. Despite its tiny brain, it appears to exploit two remarkable principles. It mimics a snake's head to deter birds from attacking, and it constructs a leaf shelter by spinning silk that shrinks as it dries, pulling the flexible edges of a leaf together into a protective tube. It's an astonishing combination of camouflage, engineering, and instinct packed into such a small creature.

Does it cost the transport company that much to turn on the AC these days?

Most of the buses and trains I've been on during these extremely hot days haven't had the air conditioning on. The most absurd part is that the trams in Amsterdam seem to have the AC blasting in the driver's cabin and the small middle conductor area, while the rest of the tram is unbearably hot and suffocating. It would be frustrating anywhere, but on a tram packed with hundreds of people, many of whom have just come in from the heat, sweating and exhausted, it makes even less sense.
