New 3DS softbricked after old Luma 7.1 update attempt - blue light flashes then shuts off

(First of all, I'm Spanish, and if something's written wrong, I hope you understand, I don't know much English).

Hello, Everyone,

I found an New 3DS that came already hacked with Luma3DS 7.1 and FBI 2.4.1. (Im not sure if the last number was 1) I wanted to update everything, so I took out the SD card, copied the new Luma and FBI files to it on my PC, and also installed Nimbus for online play. FBI updated successfully and I used Remote Install to download and play some games.

But Luma wouldn't update. A video tutorial said that to finish applying the Luma update I needed to copy boot.firm to the NAND (And I'm pretty sure that was the problem). I did that, turned off the console, and when I tried to turn it back on to check the Luma menu... it just shows the blue power light for a second and then completely turns off.

I've tried many things from different guides and tutorials

Removed the battery, waited, reinserted

Cleaned SD pins

Formatted SD card multiple times

Used fresh latest Luma boot.firm on SD root

Tried SD with only boot.firm

Tried GodMode9.firm renamed as boot.firm

Used old backup SD card

Booted with and without SD card

Various button combos (Select + Power, etc.)

Does anyone know how to recover from this? Any help is really appreciated!

Handed my New 2DS XL to a shop for a free diagnosis (popping noise - short circuit?). Sourcing my own AliExpress parts for repair and improvement —does this sound right?

Hey everyone, I need some advice on my (modded) New Nintendo 2DS XL repair situation.

I bought the console second-hand from my friend for £50. It worked perfectly fine for months, though the camera app/games itself didn't work (error - had to restart whenever encountered). Then, one day out of nowhere, it suddenly started shutting off with a distinct "pop" sound several minutes after turning it on. After this started happening:

  • If left flat or closed in sleep mode, it would stay turned on for hours.
  • I could actually boot up games and play for anywhere between 10 to 60 minutes.
  • During gameplay, a sudden "pop" sound would come from the speakers and the console would instantly kill the power.
  • If I waited a few days, it would turn on again and let me play for a bit before popping and shutting down again. It was unabled to be turned on after the pop, you either had to wait a while or put it on charge to turn it back on.
  • I realized the inner camera ribbon cable inside the hinge might be physically torn or unseated.

I took it to a high-street repair shop (iBroke My Gadget in Camberley) for a free fault check. It has been there for 3 days. The technician told me that to avoid frying the motherboard, he is opening the console to inspect it first before powering it on.

He quoted me £30 for labor, but told me I should try to source the replacement part myself from AliExpress if needed to save money (compared to CeX who wanted £80 for the whole job). I wonder if he will be able to see the reason for the shutoff immediately once opened or it will still be unknown.

The Battery: I'm thinking about buying a replacement battery (CTR-003) on AliExpress too just to maintain maximum battery health for the future, and asking him to drop it in while the console is already fully taken apart. Is this smart?

The Part: I've never bought repair parts before. When buying the New 2DS XL camera ribbon cable, do I need to buy the inner and outer cameras separately, or are they all on the same ribbon cable module? Where should I buy these parts from? I was recommended AliExpress and Etsy but they are quite confusing for me..

The Motherboard: Given that it popped a multiple times spread out over a few days, is there a high chance the motherboard is permanently fried, or does the fact that it played games for up to an hour mean the board is healthy and the fuses saved it?

The Price & Buttons: I am into the console for £80+ total now (£50 console + £30 labor and parts). I want to play it, but also want to sell it later if i stop playing without losing money. Does £30 labor sound fair? Also, my L1 and Y buttons only register if I press them really hard. Since he is fully taking it apart anyway, is it fair to ask him to clean those button contacts within that £30 fee, or should I try to haggle the total down to £20 since im also sourcing parts?

Would love to hear from anyone who has repaired these or dealt with high-street shops.

Thank you very much in advance!

New 3DS XL issues, need repair tips

So basically, the guy wanted 200 for the whole lot, but the 3DS was already looking kinda cooked. Bottom screen had a huge scratch, the case had wear, just overall questionable vibes. I talked him down to 120 because of the scratch, but then I get home and boom… the shoulder buttons don’t work. Only the tiny inner ones respond. The Pokémon games were honestly the only W in the whole deal.

Now I’m sitting here needing to replace the digitizer, shoulder buttons, maybe even the top lens. I’ve done shoulder buttons and circle pads before, so that part doesn’t scare me, but I’ve never done a digitizer on a New 3DS XL. How hard is it actually? Anything I should watch out for? I heard it’s easier than touching anything from the top screen or anything above the hinges, I just wanna know what NOT to do when starting the repair.

And real talk, was this even a decent buy or did I kinda get played? The listing said “Great condition” with zero mention of any defects. Like yeah, the Pokémon games are great, but the whole point is enjoying them on the 3DS, you know what I mean 😭👌. At least everything boots and plays fine, and the camera works, so that’s something. Any advice would be appreciated ❤️

Got this today for around 140$. Wasn't reading cartridges. Just two pins and it's back to work.

Are these dead pixels or something else? Can i repair it without fully replacing the bottom screen? :(

Is a shell swap on an old 3ds worth it?

Hi!
I've gotten my 3ds 2 weeks ago from a friend for free and was in "bad" condition. Managed to fix everything but the charger (everything at its time). And wanted to try to shell swap it to fit my vaporwave/frutiger aero wallpaper and style since this is now my console.
But, I've seen a LOT of people tell that the quality is just bad and doesn't fit well. And others say that its fine. So asking if you would recommend it to do it and if having a clear protective case on top will make the touch like normal.
Wallpaper not sure if it's final and can't decide over the blue, pink and purple (if it's worth it obviously)
Any help regarding this will be hella appreciated! (and don't be mean)

3DS XL lower hinge barrel sticking out

Hi. I just purchased a used 3DS XL. All is working fine, except for one presumed flaw at the hinge barrel. As you can see in the photo, the lower half of the center hinge barrel sticks out slightly compared to the upper half, about 0.5 millimeters. The hinge opens and closes normally though.
I wonder if this should be a concern and should I be doing anything about it to prevent any breaking down in the future. All advices are appreciated. Thanks!

N3DSXL turns on but immediately shuts off

I just recently posted and deleted my post, my n3DSXL shuts off immediately after turning off, I went into the update menu for a split second, speakers were working, it made a pop sound as soon as it shut off. I wouldn’t be able to make it into the update menu if I didn’t have my 3D on, when the 3D is off, the system just flashes a white screen and shuts off

3DSXL with no outward dents or damages won’t charge

I’m not sure where to take it to look into getting fixed? My mom tried geek squad and they basically said they didn’t know how to help with that specific model. It’s the limited galaxy version and everything is still in tact so I really wanna try getting it fixed so I can mod it instead of buying a new one.

Screen bubbles?

Hello, I was replacing the screen protector from my New 3DS XL because of what I thought were screen bubbles. However, I just removed the screen protector and I still see those white circles. Any idea on how to remove them?

Is the top screen too yellow?

I have noticed yellowing in my top screen (bottom)
I don’t really notice it when playing but I do notice it with white backgrounds. Is it that bad or am I overreacting?

I purchased a N3DSXL and it doesn’t turn on

I recently picked this N3DSXL from marketplace, and when I tried to turn it on the blue light appears and then the console flickers and immediately shuts off and you can hear like an audible pop as it flickers off. Any help would be very appreciated!

I fixed one issue only to get myself another

Well I managed to get the 3Ds to work but I accidentally broke the camera ribbon cable, it’s fine as I can replace it but when I tried to turn it on the shoulder button ribbon cable snapped so that trigger won’t work now, at least it works in every other way, also what’s street pass

Is this a screen issue or a screen protector issue?

I have noticed these weird bubble things at the top screen which are a bit distracting when playing. Should I just replace the screen protector or the screen alltogether?

After three hours I finally got them both in working condition

The blue ones camera ribbon cable was broken, it will need the parts replaced so it doesn’t pop whenever you open it too much, the red one doesn’t have any issues other than not having the camera so I’ll also buy that later and maybe a new shell too
