Skills and intern advice needed

hey everyone, so I just completed my 4th sem in btech aero and i wanna upgrade my skills and do an internship, i know that I'm not really there yet on the technical side so I wanna improve myself and actually land an intern ( at DRDO, HAL, TATA or good private startups) by the next sem and my current skills include

  1. CAD: very familiar with Solidworks and Fusion 360( designed multiple projects like centrifugal compressor, turbine exhaust, blades , chassis of an rc car and stuff for my clg, need to master surface modelling tho)

  2. Theory: have good theoretical knowledge of CFD, aerodynamics, aircraft structures, design due to my coursework for my btech

  3. Ansys: Done a couple of projects in Ansys Fluent and mechanical but still in the beginner level, still exactly don't know the working of the software but learning that

  4. I am in my colleges rocketry team, so I have done a few stps and launched a couple rockets, so familiar with rocket structure and design ( openrocket )

  5. Know the basics of Python and MatLab but never actually worked on them

My main interest lies in structural analysis, FEA, CFD, and I want to upgrade my skills in that and do a few real projects, Give me a few suggestions on how I can do that and what resources are available for me

Also I've noticed on LinkedIn that a few private startups are offering internships by taking a fee like Skyline Aerospace and Prime toolings, is it better to join them and do they help with improving my skills and working on good projects or is it better to learn on my own. Are those internships worth it for their fee and do I get to learn better by doing those internships?

Switching Fields. Need advice

Hey guys! I am starting my 4th year for my B.S(Research) degree in Physics. In the first 2 years of my college, I was working on pure research in Astrophysics and was interested to pursure a career as researcher. Due to some reasons I decided to switch to aerospace, as this is a field I really am interested in and it complements my ambitions for future.

I recently completed a two year long research project in Astrophysics. Now, I aim to do M.Tech in aerospace either in India or abroad. For the same I am preparing for GATE Aerospace 2027. Since I specifically don't have an experience in any aerospace field yet, I wish to take up a project in a related domain as my 4th year thesis project. Any advices on what domains can offer a good starting point, given I have strong python/computational background, and how do I approach professors from IITs or from colleges abroad for my thesis co-guide, as my college doesnt have a faculty that works in any remotely related fields as well. Also, keeping in mind that I would need this project when applying abroad for Masters in Aerospace

Need some advice

I'm in a really tough spot right now and need some genuine advice.

My original plan was to join SRM (KTR) for BTech Mechanical Engineering and later pursue a Master's in Aerospace (either through GATE or abroad) But as now I got the allotment I'm facing a big financial hurdle...

The thing is for SRM I need to pay the entire first-year fees to get the PAL so I can apply for an edu loan Arranging that much money upfront is extremely difficult, but I'm trying my best...

Total fees at SRM KTR for Mech are around ₹11 lakhs for 4 years (excluding hostel and other expenses)

And total fees at lpu is 11.2lakhs for yrs (might get some scholarship so end fees can range from 6-9lakhs)

My backup option is LPU Mechanical Engineering They’re saying I can get the PAL after paying just ₹10k, which makes everything much easier...

But I believe studying at SRM would give me a stronger academic profile and better opportunities compared to LPU. But is it worth it? I mean compared to lpu?

Should I somehow manage and push for SRM, or should I take the safer route and go to LPU

ANY ADVICE IS WELLCOME

especially from people who have studied at either university or are in similar situations ROI, placements, campus life, faculty, and future prospects for higher studies (especially Aerospace) would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Apprenticeship Flight Physics role at Airbus v/s PGET (manufacturing role) at TATA advanced system s

I have got two offers. One year apprenticeship flight physics at Airbus and post graduate trainee role in manufacturing at tata advanced systems. What should i go for? I'm from a Aerodynamics/CFD background. Both giving almost the same salaries. I'm leaning towards airbus. Only downside is that airbus apprenticeship is a one year program. Not sure if it'll get converted to a full time. Could you all give your opinions on this please?

I designed an F1 wing and I want a role that challenges me to do more (link)

TLDR: designed an F1 wing that performed better than the benchmark and looking for roles as a GET in aerospace engineering in India

I created the 3D design of an F1 wing according to the 2026 regulations and conducted a CFD study to improve its aerodynamics. While comparing it against research from Cranfield university, my wing performed better than theirs while generating 4850N of downforce against 270N of drag (without wheels and suspension setup as mentioned in Cranfield's research paper).

I have received praise and acknowledgment from Formula 1 engineers and personnel for this project, including a dedicated scholarship for a 12 hr rigorous aerodynamic class with two Red Bull Racing F1 engineers. I am now looking for roles in the Aerospace Industry in India so that I can take on more challenges and be an asset to companies in the Aerospace domain that are searching to squeeze out performance from every nook and cranny like F1 does.

I am writing this post to request anyone from this domain who can refer me or help me land a role in the industry, as I have been unsuccessful in my attempts so far. For reference I have an offer from a leading OEM company in India to work as a GET for their factory.

ECE at Gen1 IIT to aerospace-related fields

I'll be joining Btech ECE at a top-7 IIT this year. I was initially interested in pursuing Aerospace Engineering at a top-3 IIT, but eventually chose ECE because it seemed to offer greater flexibility and broader career opportunities.

That said, I still have a strong interest in the aerospace sector and would like to understand what career paths are available for someone with an ECE background, like what kinds of aerospace roles do ECE graduates typically work in? In what field i can do masters in after btech ece? and overall career prospects.

The 787 Frankfurt Nose Gear Collapse: Ground Lock Pin Error or a Brand New Failure Mode?

Hey everyone,

Like most of you, I’ve been tracking the June 4th Lufthansa 787 nose gear incident at Frankfurt. Looking at the footage, it’s completely obvious this wasn't a structural snap—the doors opened a split second prior, and the gear retracted forward under full hydraulic power (3,000 PSI pushing past the over-center downlock).

We know they were troubleshooting a gear door solenoid malfunction, meaning the WoW (Weight on Wheels) sensors were likely manually bypassed to cycle the doors on the ground per the DDG. This puts 100% of the aircraft's safety on the physical ground lock pin.

This looks identical to the 2021 British Airways Terminal 5 incident (G-ZBZJ), where the crew fell into the "geometric trap" and inserted the ground lock pin into the nearly identical apex bore right next to it.

But here is the massive paradox that I want to get your take on:

The Lufthansa airframe was delivered in January 2026. The FAA's mandatory Airworthiness Directive (AD 2020-01-02) required a permanent sleeve to be installed in the apex bore to physically prevent the ground lock pin from entering. That compliance deadline passed back in January 2023. A post-2023 factory delivery should have had this sleeve installed at assembly.

So, what are we looking at here?

  1. A massive production escape where Boeing missed the sleeve installation on a 2026 delivery?

  2. The sleeve was present but somehow compromised or removed during recent maintenance?

  3. A completely separate, underlying failure mode that has nothing to do with the pin-in-the-wrong-hole error?

I put together a full forensic timeline mapping out the mechanics of the over-center mechanism and how this regulatory history connects to the Frankfurt incident. If you want to see the geometric visualization of the two bores side-by-side, I did a deep dive breakdown here:

Curious to hear from any 787 guys here—have you ever seen these apex bore sleeves fail or be omitted? What's your bet on what the BFU report uncovers next month?

ADVICE NEEDED: Aerospace engineering in a new college in Blr vs Amrita blr robotics +ai

Im really confused about which college to join, and need a reality check. I was pretty decent till 10th (97%), but due to some personal issues, i couldnt perform the same in 11th and 12th, and now have to join tier 3 colleges. Im looking at my btech as a reset to rebuild my competence. I know im delusional, but my long term target is to work as a race engineer in motorsports or a aerodynamics/CFD engineer abroad. Im aware that my understanding of foreign masters admissions might be off-reality given my current academic standing, which is why I am seeking your perspective.

Now, I have two options:

  1. Amrita blr robotics+ai

  2. btech aerospace from a new college in bengaluru

The first option is safer, as amrita bengaluru is somewhat of a reputed college.

But, the second option, is my priority course. Because the college is new and lacks a proven track record, my plan is to simultaneously pursue the online BS in aeronautics from IITM, to back myself with a premier institutional brand and rigorous curriculum. The problem is, i am unaware about how joining a new college, and a niche branch, affect me.

Please give ur insights.

Aeronautical Engineer trying to enter the UAV industry – Should I get a Drone Pilot Certificate to improve my chances?

Hi everyone,

I have completed my Aeronautical Engineering degree and want to start my career in the UAV/Drone industry.

The challenge I am facing is that I am not getting enough opportunities from startups or companies to gain relevant experience. Because of that, I am looking for ways to improve my skills and make my profile more attractive to employers.

I am considering enrolling in a Drone Pilot Training program and obtaining a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC). My thinking is that it will help me understand drones better, gain hands-on flying experience, learn industry practices, and legally operate drones.

However, I am unsure if this is the right investment for someone whose goal is to build a long-term career in UAV systems and engineering rather than only becoming a drone pilot.

I would appreciate advice from professionals in the UAV industry:

  • Is obtaining an RPC a good way to increase my chances of entering the UAV industry?
  • Will companies value the certification for engineering-related roles, or is it mainly useful for operations and pilot positions?
  • If I am not getting opportunities right now, would you recommend getting the pilot certification or focusing on other skills first?
  • Which skills would provide the highest return for an Aeronautical Engineer interested in UAVs: PX4, ArduPilot, Flight Testing, Embedded Systems, ROS, CAD, CFD, etc.?
  • If you were in my position, what would be your roadmap to enter the UAV industry?

I am trying to make the best use of my time while searching for opportunities and would like to invest in skills that genuinely improve my employability and technical understanding of UAV systems.

Any advice and reasoning behind your recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Anyone interested in electric propulsion?

Seems to be a very niche topic in aerospace currently (especially in India) but I'm really interested in Hall Effect Thrusters, etc. I've made 1-2 projects related to the same and wanted to see if anyone else here is also interested in this topic.

How hard is it to get an aerospace internship in India? What skills do I need?

In two months I m starting college . I have no clue how the internship scene works aerospace .

How tough is it to get into places like ISRO, DRDO, or startups (Skyroot, Agnikul, etc.)?

What skills or software should I actually start learning now so my resume doesn't look blank? (SolidWorks? Python? MATLAB?)

Do companies care more about a crazy high GPA, or is it better to just join the college rocket/drone teams?

If anyone has been through this or has any tips for a beginner. Thanks!

HAL vs DRDO GTRE Apprenticeship (BCA Graduate) – Need Honest Advice from Current/Former Apprentices

Hey everyone,

I have been selected for both HAL (Graduate General Apprentice - BCA) and DRDO GTRE (Graduate General Apprentice - BCA) in Bengaluru, and I have to choose only one. I'm finding it difficult to decide and would really appreciate advice from people who have worked or completed an apprenticeship in either organization.

These are the points I'd like to know:

Which organization provides better learning opportunities for a BCA graduate?

Is the work mostly administrative, or is there any IT/software-related work?

Which organization has a better work-life balance?

Does either organization offer better networking, guidance, or future career opportunities after the apprenticeship?

If you've worked in either HAL or GTRE apprenticeship, what are the pros and cons that you experienced?

Plz i need your guide

Are there any wind tunnels to perform testing for a student project team?

I work for a student project team and we are developing an active control surface which we would like to test in a high subsonic wind tunnel (about Mach 0.8). Are there any wind tunnels in India which allow testing for such purposes in India for free for research work?
