New to this franchise: WTF am I doing wrong?

Hi. Long story short:
I picked up The Bunker and I’m about an hour in and…HOLY S**T I can’t stand this game. The constant darkness, the rats, the instant kill enemies, the lack of explanation. I don’t get it. I don’t wanna give up but damn if this isn’t unfun. Any advice?

(Don’t be one of those “iT’s JuSt A sKilL IsSue” losers, no one wants you here.)

I’ve finished the game—it’s so awesome that I felt a bit sad as it neared the end and wanted to immerse myself in that atmosphere all over again. It gave me goosebumps from start to finish; the scariest area was probably the Roman tunnels—I think I wasted four rounds on ghosts before actually killing the soldier. Then there was the final bomb: I destroyed the monster, yet the German soldiers kept coming anyway—presumably thinking the protagonist was... I just love *Amnesia* for that freedom of action and the sense of unpredictability.

I’m going to play the other installments, too.

For anyone interested: I only ran the generator twice (I was a fool—I saved it for a special occasion and ended up with 14 spare canisters).

Amnesia the bunker, WHERE IS THE WINE CELLAR?!

I don't like spoiling anything and like exploring, so I kept searching for the wine cellar in maintenance for hours on end and I can NOT find it, I have the wrench and I found a vent which I opened and there was a dead body and rats but nothing more than that, found another door with wooden planks on it and " rats keep out " opened it and found very good loot " 3 fuel cans, medkit, bandage and 2 cloth " but no infinite supply of bottles I searched for hours and I'm DONE, SPOIL IT, where is the wine cellar?

I cant complete the achivment bc the beast broke the door with a chain

I wanted to complete the cut every chain and open every vent achivment but beast broke one of the doors that had a chain the one in prison to be exact now do i have to start all over again

I'm in such a dire situation in Amnesia: The Bunker I don't even know what to do help bro

I'm critically damaged and bleeding I need to go to the fuel storage to refill the bottles I have no fuel left it's pitch black I have no torches to deal with the rats and haven't opened the shortcut door yet I searched everywhere for normal fuel cans or bottles or at least bandages, cloth, or sticks and I can't find anything as I have looted everything, I'm out of bullets, I'm scared, is this salvageable? do I just start a new save?

uhm, I might've done a mistake in The Bunker

unnecessarily long story short: generator is out of fuel, it's dark outside the administration room and I'm not sure what to do, knowing that the beast is now free to do whatever

long story: The first time I heard about amnesia was 4 days ago when I searching for stalker type horror games since I'm a fan of alien isolation and both outlasts, and The Bunker was recommended to me by chatgpt.

I like the overall vibe of the game, and horror games generally stop scaring me after sometime, like outlast 2, I remember not touching it for 2 days after downloading it out of sheer fear from Marta, and then ended up starting it up at a random weekend and ending it in the same day, but this game is different, I've been out of fuel for 3 days now and I must say I'm a LITTLE scared to navigate the darkness, and when I got enough courage to do so I encountered the beast and died, I thought 1 bullet made it go back in a hole but no that's only in easy mode and I needed more

Is there any chance The Bunker will come to switch 1?

The Bunker is my favorite amnesia game, but when Rebirth was released only for switch 2 i was really sad because i only have a Switch Oled, i know its a dumb question but i still have some hope

Is there even a small chance The Bunker wont be a S2 exclusive?

Amnesia: The Bunker is a little more complicated than I anticipated

I really unsurprisingly liked this game's idea as a big fan of alien isolation and both outlasts, I can't find any good guides, I only find ' essential tips ' and they're all about how loud your flashlight is etc. Do i need to figure out where the generator room is? Do i need to figure out my missions?

Amnesia: The Bunker items tier list

Here are my opinions on the items after my first playthrough. I am yet to attempt Shellshock which may change some of my views

I hate this achievement

The first time i got into Rebirth, i saw the speedtester achievement and i didnt care so much, but when i completed the game and came to see what things were missing, i saw it again and i gave up in the same moment.

Why do the developers do this kind of achievement? Dont feel me wrong, i love Amnesia, and i want to 100% it just for that reason, but if i had the chance to pay somebody to do it for me, i would do in the exact moment. AND IT HAS IN THE BUNKER TOO, WHY DO YOU HATE US?!

Sclerosis (Amnesia VR port) is the best horror game I ever played

I'm probably preaching to the choir when I say the Dark Descent is a good horror game, but I need to paint you a little background to explain just why Sclerosis is so good (feel free to skip the next paragraph if you're just in here for the VR part).

I grew up right at the point where YouTube let's plays were popping off. I haven't watched English-speaking YouTubers like Markiplier or PewDiePie at the time, so while I was heavily into ~2010 horror games, Amnesia kind of just passed me by. I knew of it, I knew who the servants were, I roughly knew the plot, but the game itself just kinda existed in the background for me. I did end up playing it around 2016, but it didn't feel very significant in comparison to other games I played at the time (which ironically took a lot of inspiration from Amnesia).

Ever since I got a VR headset a year or so ago I've been itching for a good horror game and nothing could scratch that need. I grew up watching and playing a lot of horror games and it's kind of hard to phase me anymore, so a lot of horror games which scared most people were just kinda unimpressive, then I randomly stumbled upon Sclerosis, a Unity port of Dark Descend which also doubled as a de-make (with optional PSX artstyle toggle) and a mobile port, but most importantly for this post, a VR version as well.

And let me tell you, Amnesia in VR is so far the best and scariest thing I've played and it gave me a brand new love for this game.

The most obvious thing: The physics. Not to underplay the CreaTeam's part in porting it all to VR, but Amnesia's heavy use of physics objects for everything translates beautifully to VR. You can grab objects to take a closer look, you can carry things under your arm as you would in real life, carry things up to the light if you wanna see them better, push the door out slightly to peek trough the gap. The interactivity level seriously challenges a lot of modern VR games and CreaTeam did an amazing work on making sure all the objects can be grabbed and tossed with realistic hand position and such.

Similarly, the lantern is such a good fit for VR. Actually having to lift you arm up to make it shine over a piece of debris, pushing your arm out forward to see a little deeper into the darkness and having to quickly snuff it with your other hand feels very natural.

And, this might be the obvious part, the game is just much scarier when everything is literally in your face. You can't just turn away from the monitor and surround-sound audio makes feel just how close the sounds are. You have no idea how many times I heard a grunt spawn and had to fiddle with the doors to figure out which way they open so I could hide before the monster gets me. Playing Amnesia in VR actually made me anxious for what's around the corner which is a feeling I haven't had in years. I actually jumped playing a horror game again!

Most interesting part is that I know Amnesia really well, which kind of eliminates a big draw of the game, which is the unknown. You cannot look at the monsters, but staying in the dark will drive you insane. The game is very careful about not showing too much of its hand and I bypassed it all when I went to replay the game in VR. I already know the monsters despawn, I know what they look like, I know (roughly) when or where they will spawn, but it's still so fucking scary when they do. I completely bypassed the fear of the unknown, but the game is still making me afraid due to just how good the atmosphere and sound design are.

If you've gotten all the way down here, thanks for reading and please play Sclerosis VR if you can, it's free on itch.io and only requires you owning the steam version of the game to play (you can even play it without a computer if you own a Quest headset). It's the best horror experience I ever had in my adulthood.

TL;DR: Amnesia translates to VR crazy well with all the physics stuff and is scarier than any other VR game I played

Beat Shell Shock!

If you're out there wondering whether or not you can do it, take it from me - an entirely mediocre player - that it's 100% doable.

Some things I noted that might help out prospective masochists:

  1. You still have a safe room, it's just smaller: the generator room has a lockable metal door and the Beast won't make a hole in it (at least that I've seen in my 3 playthroughs). The calming music will even play! The room with the Save Lantern + Trunk isn't safe, so don't linger.

  2. It's good to make a plan about how you want to split up the game with saves, along with being flexible enough to realize that the plan will be RNG-dependent (you may need to hunt for fuses/codes/equipment, for example).

  3. I spent a lot of time in the dark at the beginning of the game, but once I unlocked the fuel room things got a lot less stressful.

  4. I found four fuses and there may be more. Just keep looking.

Good luck!
