Kyu Launcher v0.98 is here, the Roku inspired minimal TV launcher has come a long way since it's launch

I asked the community over at r/KyuLauncher to provide translations.

This update includes pretty much everything people asked for so apart from minor bug fix updates and new themes I don't think the launcher will need updating again. It's still simple, usable by your grandpa and his mates, and does not eat a large share of resources.

Themes I can update over the air in the theme store so ask me if you want anything.

Here are the updates in text if your screen reader can not read images:

Welcome to v0.98 of Kyu Launcher

  1. Multiple language support including spanish, german, hindi etc
  2. Move or rename even the home tab
  3. Live tab featuring EPG from your live tv apps (enable from tabs)
  4. Better home detection
  5. New themes
  6. Easy wallpaper picker
  7. Bug fixes

Homatics Box 4K V2 or R Plus 4K

Hi there, I'm looking to upgrade my Xiaomi 2ng gen box and after some research I landed on 2 devices, both from Homatics:

Homatics Box 4K plus V2

Homatics Box R Plus 4K

From what I see the biggest difference is the V2 has a better CPU (S905X5M) but 2gb ram while the R has a weaker CPU (S905X4) but 4gb ram and it's slightly pricier tough 20€ more is whatever.

In terms of use case, I don't really multitask or stream games. I mostly play local mkv files with MX Player, Plex, Netflix and tv streaming app. I'm in Europe so ONN isn't an option.

Any suggestions which one I should go for? Thanks.

Chromecast Vs streamer

Hi, recently a lot of apps on my fire stick are having problems or have been shut down so I have decided to get a new android box. I've seen a lot of people recommend the Google streamer 4k which is a little out of my budget. While looking at that I came across the Google Chromecast which is about half the price. I would prefer to just go with the cheaper one if everything still works fine in it but I was just wondering if there are any big differences between the two or if it will affect sideloading apps.

Hey everyone.

Wanted to put together a solid overview of the app in one place since a lot of people ask about specific features and it is not always obvious where to find them. I also want to make sure people know this app runs properly on Android TV, Amazon FireOS, and Fire Stick devices, because that tends to get overlooked. More on that below.

Android TV, Amazon FireOS and Fire Stick
This is worth calling out properly because it is something UFM Pro does that most file managers simply do not. The TV version is not a phone app stretched to fit a big screen. It has been built specifically for TV environments with full D-pad navigation throughout. Every screen, every menu, every interaction is designed to be used with a remote control. No touch required, no awkward zoomed in phone UI, no broken focus states.

Install via the Downloader app using code: 1581139 for Amazon Devices, I am in the process to have it on the official Amazon Store.

If you have ever installed a file manager on your Fire Stick or Android TV box and ended up with a cramped phone layout that barely works with a remote, UFM Pro is a completely different experience.

Menus are laid out for 10 foot viewing distances, navigation flows naturally with the D-pad, and nothing requires you to dig through a UI that was never meant for a remote control.

TV specific features include dedicated pairing screens for device to device connections, separate auth flows for Google Drive and OneDrive that work without a phone style browser, Shizuku support for TV, and custom cache limit settings suited to TV hardware.

The file server also works great on TV, meaning you can run an FTP or SFTP server from your Fire Stick and pull files from it on your PC over your local network.

File browsing and navigation
The main file browser supports dual pane mode through TwinWindow, which opens two folders side by side. Useful for moving files between locations without copying and then navigating separately. Available on both phone and TV.

Storage analysis
The storage analyzer gives you a breakdown of where your space is going. It finds large files, duplicates, junk, old files, and shows folder sizes. The duplicate finder works well, just go through the safety confirmation before bulk deleting anything as it is there to flag files that could be riskier to remove.

Encrypted vault
The vault uses AES-256 encryption. Pick a folder, set it up, and from then on those files are only accessible through the vault browser inside the app. There is no credential recovery by design so keep your details somewhere safe.

Network shares and cloud storage
Local network shares over SMB, FTP, and SFTP are all supported. For cloud you can connect Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WebDAV, and S3 compatible storage. The S3 setup lets you point the app at any S3 compatible endpoint, not just AWS. TV users get dedicated auth flows for Google Drive and OneDrive that do not require a standard browser.

Built in file server
You can run an FTP or SFTP server directly from your device, including from a Fire Stick or Android TV box. Start it from the server host screen, connect from your PC with any FTP client, and it stays running as a foreground service even when the screen is off. No cables needed.

Sync
Sync profiles let you keep two locations in sync on a schedule. Works across local storage and network locations, so keeping a folder mirrored to a NAS is straightforward. The scheduler runs it in the background without any manual input.

Media viewers
Images, video, audio, PDFs, text files, and ZIP and 7ZIP archives all open natively. There is an enhanced media player with a custom interface for video and audio. APNG animated images are supported too.

App management
Browse installed apps and install APK, XAPK, and APKS files through the built in package installer. The storage analyzer also includes debloat suggestions for identifying apps you may not need.

Shizuku support
Shizuku gives the app broader file access without full root. Works on both mobile and TV with separate setup screens for each. Once running, the app can reach parts of the filesystem that are otherwise restricted.

Remote management
Pair devices over WiFi for remote file management. ADB pairing is also supported. Once paired you get a full remote file interface over your local network. TV has its own dedicated pairing screen.

Search and indexing
Search runs off a background file index. Configure what gets indexed in settings under storage indexer. Once built, search is fast and supports filters. If results seem incomplete, check the index detail screen to see if indexing is still in progress.

Home screen widget
A bookmark widget lets you jump straight to your most used folders from the home screen. Set up your favorites in settings and they appear there automatically.

Bluetooth remote, your phone as a TV remote
This one surprises people. UFM Pro can turn your phone into a Bluetooth remote for your Android TV or Fire Stick, and it works across the entire TV, not just inside the app. Once connected, you can navigate the TV interface, control volume, and handle power from your phone. It is a proper system level remote, so you can use it in Netflix, YouTube, your TV launcher, wherever.

This is not a companion app gimmick. If you have ever lost your Fire Stick remote down the back of the couch you will immediately understand why having this built into a file manager app you already have installed is genuinely useful. Open UFM Pro on your phone, connect over Bluetooth, and you are controlling your TV.

🔗 Download: Google Play Store

If you have questions or something is not working as expected, post with as much detail as you can about your device, OS version, and what you were doing. The more context the easier it is to help.

The tip jar is in the supporter loyalty screen if you want to support development. Thanks for being here.

Thank You and Kind Regards

Why can't I access external storage?

Hi all,

Hoping for some help adding an external hdd to my Mi TV box. I have attached the external hdd to the box using the port on it.

Within Android settings it is seen and the correct size etc. I have them formatted it using the option "Erase & Format as Removable Storage". After it shows as ready to go. so far, so good.

However if I open up x-plore it does not see it. In file manager + it sees it and it has the correct size but when I click on it the it's inaccessible. In sparkle player it's also invisible.

I'm a bit lost..... Help!

Vuleo 1.1.13 is out: Radar now covers way more sports, plus a reminder that your IPTV player and Stremio live in one app

Vuleo 1.1.13 is live. The big change this time is Radar's scope, but I want to hit both the new stuff and something a lot of people still don't realize the app does.

First, the reminder. Vuleo is a full IPTV player and Stremio in one app. That has been the case for a while now, and it's still one of the best reasons to use it. Your M3U playlists, your VOD, your series, and your Stremio addons all live in one place. Movies and series pull from both your playlist sources and Stremio at the same time, so a title shows you every stream it can find without you jumping between apps. One home screen, one search, one continue-watching row. If you're still running a separate player and a separate Stremio setup, you don't need to. And the best part, using this combination together with no "playlist count", "stremio add-on count" for completely free. This is not a PRO feature.

Now the actual update. We gave Radar a serious expansion. Radar is the feature that follows the sports you care about and surfaces the games on your home screen when they're on. It used to be a short list. Now it covers a lot.

Apart from the ongoing FIFA World Cup, here is the full list of what you can follow in Radar right now:

Football (Soccer)

  • Premier League
  • La Liga
  • Serie A
  • Bundesliga
  • Ligue 1
  • Eredivisie
  • Primeira Liga
  • Championship
  • Süper Lig
  • MLS
  • A-League
  • Champions League
  • Europa League

Basketball

  • NBA
  • EuroLeague

American Football

  • NFL
  • CFL
  • College Football (NCAAF)

Baseball

  • MLB

Ice Hockey

  • NHL

Motorsport

  • Formula 1
  • Formula 2
  • Formula E
  • MotoGP
  • NASCAR
  • Supercars

Combat Sports

  • UFC
  • Boxing
  • WWE

Rugby

  • Six Nations
  • United Rugby Championship
  • Champions Cup
  • NRL

Australian Football

  • AFL

Cricket

  • IPL
  • Big Bash League
  • The Hundred

Pick the leagues and events you follow, and Radar handles the rest. It finds the broadcast in your playlists and puts the match front and center when it's live. Football fans get thirteen competitions. Motorsport fans get six series. Whether you're into the NFL on Sunday, MotoGP on the weekend, or the Champions League midweek, it's all there.

Update through your usual channel and let us know what you think.

Sharp Smart Android TV boots up on account select, cannot do anything

Since last week my TV boots up on the “account select” screen. Selecting the account does nothing, selecting ‘add account’ does nothing, selecting ‘manage accounts’ results in an error screen with no information, I’m unable to switch source, open settings, or do anything at all, I’ve tried hard resetting, didn’t work. I’ve tried factory reset, but I can’t even open the settings. The tv has like one physical button and it’s the power button, there’s no reset pin or anything, I’m at a complete loss as I literally can’t do anything to fix it. Would appreciate any help, thanks.

Looking for Beta Testers – Buffering Control (Android App)

Hi everyone,

I’ve built an app to reduce buffering, with the help of my son and his college room mate, and after using it privately for several months I’ve decided to publish it on the Playstore. I’ve found channels load, switch and recover faster and buffering has reduced significantly. It obviously can’t overcome every cause of buffering like poor internet or overloaded servers but it definitely helps reduce it. It’s designed primarily for Android Smart TV’s and TV boxes but also works well on Phones and Tablets.

The app works quietly in the background — you just hit connect and it automatically optimizes how your device handles the internet connections behind your streams. No complicated setup, no settings to fiddle with. It gets smarter the more you use it, learning your streaming habits to make things even faster over time.

I need at least 20-30 people to install it and try it out for two weeks. It's completely free during the testing period and you will receive a Promo Code on full launch.

I need testers on a regional basis to accurately assess how the app performs in different regions, so if you're in Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore etc), The Middle East, UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Africa, and South America and you stream extensively on any Android device, I'd love to have you on board. I’m aiming to take only about 2-3 testers per region.

Send a DM with your Device type, Gmail address, city and country and I'll send you the invite link when Google have completed their initial review. Slots are limited.

Thanks!

Good stick/box for 4k dolby streaming, HDR from Jellyfin

Hi,

I’m looking for a good streaming stick or box for my LG C4 and Jellyfin server.

My usage will primarily involve streaming 4K content (Dolby Vision, HDR) from Jellyfin. Key priorities for me are snappy performance, good audio-video sync within Jellyfin, and the best possible Dolby/HDR picture quality; an Ethernet port would be a welcome bonus.

What should I buy? A used Nvidia Shield Pro, a Fire 4K Max, a Xiaomi model, or something else entirely?

Why does Homatics 4K plus box repeatedly show the Dolby Vision/Mbox every time I change apps

It seems like this is constantly appearing like it’s on some kind of loop. I unplugged the power cord for 90 seconds and it gives some relief for couple hours then it’s back. I have done restart and factory reset and it’s still happening. I really like this box when playing but this can’t be normal. Any suggestions?

PSA: If Disney+ crashes immediately after the splash screen on Android TV, check if AnExplorer is installed

This is not a support request.

I already solved the issue and wanted to share what I found in case it helps someone else.

I spent several days troubleshooting Disney+ crashing immediately after the splash screen on two different Android TV devices.

Devices NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (Android 11, Shield Experience 9.2.4)

Valerion Vision Pro 2 (Android TV)

Disney+ version 26.10.0+rc3-2026.06.13

Symptoms Disney+ splash screen appears.

The app immediately closes before the login screen.

No error message is displayed.

Things I tried Factory reset

Different Google account

Different Disney+ account

Different Wi-Fi network

Mobile hotspot

Verified Play Protect certification

Verified Widevine L1

Updated firmware Reinstalled Disney+

None of those steps resolved the issue.

What I found I captured an ADB logcat and found the following exception:

FATAL EXCEPTION: main

java.lang.SecurityException: Not allowed to bind to service

Intent { act=android.support.customtabs.action.CustomTabsService pkg=dev.dworks.apps.anexplorer }

After uninstalling AnExplorer (dev.dworks.apps.anexplorer), Disney+ immediately started working again on both devices.

Based on the logcat, it appears Disney+ attempts to bind to AnExplorer's CustomTabsService, receives a SecurityException, and crashes before reaching the login screen.

Hopefully this saves someone else several hours of troubleshooting.

If anyone has seen the same behavior or can explain why Android selects AnExplorer's CustomTabsService in this scenario, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

I spent the last few months building an open-source Android TV remote because I couldn't find one I actually liked

For the past few months I've been working on a side project after getting frustrated with the Android TV remote apps that were available.

I wanted something that would simply connect to my TV and work, while also being a good project to learn from and maintain over time.

Some of the things I focused on were:

  • Automatic discovery of Android TVs on the local network
  • D-pad navigation and gesture touchpad controls
  • Phone keyboard input directly on the TV
  • Volume, power and navigation controls
  • Casting support
  • Material You dynamic theming
  • Customizable app shortcuts

TV Remote for Android TV is:

  • ✅ Completely free
  • ✅ Open source
  • ✅ No ads
  • ✅ No subscriptions

The project is fully open source, so anyone can look through the implementation, report issues, or contribute if they're interested.

I'm still actively improving it, so if anyone has ideas for features, better TV compatibility, or architecture suggestions, I'd genuinely love to hear them.

Testing the power of extra 1GB RAM (Onn 4K Plus vs. Pro v2)

I got my Onn 4K Pro v2 a few weeks ago but didn't have time to set it up until today. I remember a few games either freeze or crash at level loading screen on Onn 4K Plus (likely from RAM running out, but weak SoC can also be the cause). So really curious to see if that extra 1GB RAM helps or not in each case. Here are some results. Screenshots are captured from device with adb.

Game Onn 4K Plus (2025) Onn 4K Pro v2 (2026) Control
Botany Manor Crash when loading the 1st level Good performance at default setting. No option to turn off touch overlay. Gamepad (Touch overlay is still on)
Dead Cells Show "Out of RAM" warning after entering the 1st level and crash soon after that Playable performance in 60fps mode. HD mode slows down game significantly. Gamepad
DREDGE Crash when loading the 1st level Good performance at medium render quality. Gamepad
Half-Life 2 Freeze at the wake up by G-man scene Very smooth performance at 1080p and default graphics setting. Option to turn off touch overlay doesn't work. Keyboard w/ Mouse (Touch overlay is still on)
Life is Strange: Before the Storm Unresponsive at title screen Performance is very good but game only partially responds to keyboard for UI navigation. So game isn't really playable. Keyboard (Partial)
Minecraft ("Vibrant Adventures" map) UI navigation is very sluggish. Frequently crash when loading maps from marketplace. UI navigation is much smoother. No crash so far with free maps from marketplace. Graphics quality needs to be lowered for smoother gameplay in big maps. Gamepad

Mi TV stick & Mi box S slow

Greetings readers, first I want to apologize if anything is wrong. English isn't my first language, and I'm using a translator.

Years ago, I bought a Mixbox S. I was thrilled to have a "smart TV," but that happiness faded over time. At first, I thought it was an update problem, then I thought it was a memory issue, but even after a factory reset with nothing installed, it would slow down to the point of being unusable.

Then I bought a Xiaomi TV Stick, and the result was the same. Today, after thinking about it for a while, I started wondering if it's possible to revive these devices and use them again. So...

  1. Is it possible to change the operating system or the operating system version, like you could do with some phones? If so, is there a guide available?

  2. Is it a factory defect, and should I just give up?

Thank you in advance for reading and any answers you might have. <3
