Happy birthday USA

I hope that everyone is enjoying their weekend and staying cool.

I just heard that the SAVE Act is dead?!! (🙏)

Here’s a response from LaLota just a few days ago.

Democracy isn’t dead. Dissent made this country great.

PS: my initial inquiry was regarding woman’s rights and the reasoning behind supporting such and that’s what I got back.

MAGA is giving this mom anxiety

Raising a gender non-conforming child in a conservative neighborhood on long island (apparently 80% here vote Republican!). I try to stay open minded but I feel like the topic of transgender youth is everywhere right now (Thanks MAGA!). My child's school is supportive but they have also endured teasing incidents from peers. I've also unfortunately heard second hand gossip about my child. A parent wanting to meet me at the school to discuss this and asking a neighbor about my child's attire for a pool party. There's a lot of positive interactions too but of course I'm just a scared mom and trouble feeling safe around here. Guess I'm just looking for some uplifting messages or advice.

In January 2025, after the International Criminal Court sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Laura Gillen (D-Garden City) voted for the ICC sanctions bill known as the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act.

This is an old vote, before this subreddit existed, but this looks like one of her first votes. She thinks the ICC is illegitimate?

Quarterly Update: Gillen up to a quarter million from AIPAC. She cares more about Israel than people struggling on Long Island

Mod Update: New Rule & Community Reminder

Hello everyone!

We just wanted to give you a heads up regarding the rules. Most notably, we've added a new rule:

Rule 11: No Content Dumping

Avoid flooding the subreddit with multiple posts in a short period of time or repeatedly sharing content from the same website, YouTube channel, creator, or subreddit. While some national political content is allowed, excessive posting, especially from a single source, may be removed to encourage thoughtful contributions over high-volume posting.

We've noticed an influx of posts that are certainly related to Trump but don't otherwise contribute to Long Island discussion. We want to keep this sub focused on quality over quantity and avoid turning the feed into a dumping ground for low effort content. Our goal is to maintain the sense of community that makes this subreddit enjoyable.

Secondly, although this isn't a rule change, we want to reiterate that general posts about Long Island are NOT considered off topic thus do not violate Rule 2. Posts do NOT have to be related to Trump or politics. One of the original goals of this subreddit was to mirror the general Long Island subreddit while also providing a space where people could freely express opposition to Trump and his administration. Please continue sharing Long Island news, events, questions, history, and everyday life, and please don't report those posts as off topic.

That's all for now. We want to thank you all for being awesome and staying vigilant. We've seen far fewer MAGA trolls flooding the subreddit thanks to your reports, and we've also implemented stricter posting restrictions to help keep things under control.

Thank you for doing your part, and we hope you all have a great and safe Fourth of July weekend!

Hey Pierre. I'm happy you're doing what you think you needs doing, blasting the libs, but how about coming to your riding and helping us stack sandbags to keep our businesses from flooding out.

I didn't vote for him, but like Trump, yet he couldn't care about me or you.

Blakeman says Brad Lander would be a concentration camp guard. Laura Gillen has yet to condemn Blakeman’s inflammatory language.

Ventouras or Gallant?

I’ve read up on both of their platforms but I’m pretty torn. I know, I know, I just genuinely don’t know and gotta decide by 5pm today when I head to my polling spot. Which are y’all picking today?

I see pros and cons in both. Ventouras, young, passionate, progressive. Gallant, still young but more career experience, vet, sounds relatively progressive from website?
