Convention Moved Dates to the Same Weekend as Bigger Convention, Should I Be Worried?

So many months ago, I signed up for two separate conventions that were originally scheduled 2 weeks apart in August. One is a newer one (I think it's their 2nd year) that I got accepted to; the other is a bigger one that's ran for much longer that I got waitlisted for. A few months after, the smaller con moved its dates to the same weekend as the bigger one. Although I didn't get into the latter, I fear now that the other convention won't get nearly as much foot traffic. Should I expect lower sales due to this? Or can I still hold hope?

edit: Should clarify both of these events are in the same metropolitan area

My set up slightly goes over the table, would this be okay?

Hey guys, I had to modify my setup a bit and to utilise the whole 1.8m table (5 feet 10/11 inches) it goes slightly outside the table edges. I've seen photos of many other booths doing the same but wanted to know if they're super strict about this and like will tell me off lol or if you've had any experiences about this issue? Thanks!

If people do complain I can angle the entire set up so that it fits inside but if set up completely straight it goes over a bit.

Selling second hand merch?

So after many years of going to cons, I have inevitably developed quite a collection of fan merch that I don't feel quite the same love for these days.

I was considering putting some pins on Vinted (they do not appear to be handmade) and even perhaps offering a second-hand bin the next time I vend.

I just wanted to vibecheck the etiquette on this. For my own merch, I'd be okay with it. I've already been paid. I don't love the idea of someone selling my work for profit, however, but it isn't my item anymore I suppose.

What do you think? TIA!

Do you need a visa or any permits to apply for artist alley booths in Malaysia and Singapore? (As a Filipino artist)

Hello! I wanted to ask for some clarifications if a visa or perhaps permits would be needed if ever I wish to take part of the artist alley in Malaysia or Singapore? I am from the Philippines and I wish to try!

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you! 💙

how can i improve my artist alley booth?

this is my second time ever tabling and i plan on making a lot more designs and making a more cohesive look for my booth! as in, the side walls will definitely be used more next time. i’m mainly leaning into a convenience store look hehe (i will make more food themed items eventually)

however, i felt like no matter how much planning i did, it always felt lacking but i can’t quite say what. if anyone has any thoughts or advice (on pricing too, since ive been struggling with that as well) id love to hear it, thank you!!

Want to do a artist alley but not sure I have enough items

What’s a good amount of items to have what’s too much and too little I have probably 10 keychain designs quite a few stickers a few sticker sheets, a few wooden pins but that’s about it? I don’t really have many prints as I don’t make large artworks scenes usually

Artist Alley Booth Setup Feedback/Critiques

hello artists! I recently just set up and sold at my very first offical convention. I was sharing the table space with other artists so I had a little less room. I've only set up a booth like this a handful of times, and I would like some feedback and criticism on how I could make this more welcoming, open, and just a better experience for someone who might be interested in my work/products.

the miku keychains in the middle sold out at this convention! so that little diaplay/setup worked very well. I also just bought some clip-on lights to show my products better, and a nicer Square terminal for quicker easier didital payments. those were my most biggest issues with the booth.

this is the first time I use reddit so im not sure if im asking in the right community. thank you! :)

How can i make my set up even better next time?

This was my 5th booth set up. Ive upgraded every convention and would love some opinions and input from somw more experienced venders!

(I know i need a better way to display prints—the prints were a last minute addition and were hastily thrown onto the display)

How would this booth do at a convention?

Hello! Ive been selling my art at local events and have been debating whether i should start applying to bigger conventions. Ive gotten a lot more success with anime centered crowds rather than more normal events but im not sure how i would do at an actual convention. Hlw would you guys feel if you saw a booth like this? Would you buy anything, or atleast be interested in stopping to look?

Setup Upgrade Suggestions

So, I've just done my third convention this weekend and had major success. However, my display feels cheap (which I guess it is) and not eye catching as I feel it should be.

The products I sell are mainly deco photocards, each one unique so I need people to look through each individual item. But I make such a large amount of stock to cater towards a large variety of people so I need maximum display. When people were looking through the decos it did get quite crowded as each person looked through the stock.

(First picture is more of a conference table rather than the typical 6ft table)

I'm just wondering what ways I could improve the look of my setup while allowing maximum space for people and stock.

I was looking at artistbooths.com for their kits. They can work for what I do if I have more tiered displays, but my concern then goes to the rosettes. Should I use pegboard?

I'm open to critiques and suggestions. They would mean a lot!

how much inventory do i bring to a big event?

hellloooo, im got accepted into one of the biggest cons of the netherlands recently, however this will be my 3rd artist alley EVER, and i have no clue how much stuff i should bring with me, as i am going to need to make a lot of new stuff (so i wont have an indicator of how well they sell) and have also never gone to big events before (the other 2 were very small events). i will be sharing a 2 meter table with someone else so i have 1 meter, and will also be joining 2 stamp rallies if that matters.

i will probably be making prints, stickers, keychains, phone charms, buttons and photocard holders. i was wondering if 1. this was too ambitious of a plan, 2. how much i would need to bring, and 3. if different categories (stickers, buttons, etc.) have different sale rates? any help or advice would be appreciated!

Is this Artist Alley worth it?

I received this Email today and I have been contemplating for a really long time now how worth it it is to go to this event and sell my merch.

Things to keep in mind:

8.000 kr is about 825 USD or 725 EURO (give or take)

I'm from Sweden and this price is pretty damn steep even the most fancy Swedish cons dont have this high of a price BUT ITS VERY DIFFERENT IN NORWAY. Norway is a very rich country and prices are just higher in general there. So it is actually very profitable for a Swede to be selling in that country. (But question is; is it profitable enough to earn from how much a table costs.)

I have never been to Spillexpo so I have no clue how interested people are in walking past and buying from artist alley. When it comes to Närcon (One of the biggest Scandinavian cons) its basically part of the culture to walk past artist alley. While when i sold at an event called Glitched which was a LAN where Artist alley was just an extra thing you could visit which made sales very limited.

Lets not forget also that even if its not super far for me to go there. It still takes about 3-5 hours with car and that will of course include gas prices. As well that i definitely need to sleep at the event since i dont have friends who live in Norway.

So what are yalls thoughts?

I would really like to answer this gmail as soon as possible and answer if im interested or not. Because this could be both a big opportunity but also potentially not worth it.

Are there any Artist Alleys in the UK where there would be audience for something like these

Specifically London areas. I have tried looking online but there's minimal markets that show up. The ones that do show up in my area I find out about them too late. Sort of fantasy, whimsical, fair type alleys are what I'm looking for but any that would be acceptable to have these at would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Any good, reoccurring pop-up markets that others could recommend?

Hello! So I am going to be vending in an AA for the first time next year! I was wondering if any other artists had any reoccurring pop-up markets and such that you'd recommend/suggest trying to vend for? I plan to do mostly fan arts and a few originals if I can manage eventually. Much thanks!

Edit for clarification: I am in the US but am willing to travel a little bit. I dont have a passport yet, but Im working on it.

How much do you charge for shipping and handling with your online store?

For anyone who has an online store, how much do you charge for shipping and handling for prints, books, and original art?

My business is located in Canada.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Any suggestions or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

SUPERNOVA/ no Nintendo fanart?

Hello! I was just accepted into my first ever convention, that being the super smash bros centered con Supernova in Baltimore MD.

I read more closely that no “unsanctioned Nintendo© merchandise” is allowed. I don’t want to be dense, I just want to understand. Is that saying no Nintendo fanart?

Since it is smash bros con, I was wanting to get some of my art made into keychains, I was going to draw a few of the most popular characters people play in that game. But if I’m understanding that right, that’s not allowed?

Wanted to hear what people would do in this situation, I’m happy to pivot, but just want to have things ready and made for the con.

how to get over the initial fear of getting started?

hi guys!!!! ive been drawing for years now and always wanted to table somewhere. this july i rlly want to start doing it & ive watched a lot of info videos and talked to artists who do so i know what i’m getting into. however i’m stuck at the part of getting my inventory together as i keep getting really nervous and putting it off. 😭

i haven’t even gotten myself to order actual things to sell as the thought of it is so overwhelming. i’ve been doing commissions for years but this seems so overwhelming to get started and i’m sure it’ll get easier once i fully start getting ready, but can anyone share their personal experience with this or felt this way starting out?

I'd like to start trying to get into very large events such as gamescom - is my art there yet?

As per title. I'm in my 3rd year of AA now. I recently redesigned my entire table set up (pictured). I know it's missing my artist name - I'm still waiting on my signage to be delivered for that 😅

I'm a traditional artist so I sell a mixture of prints and actual paintings. My entire AA is self funded and I've saved up a pot of money now that I could shell out for attending some of the giant cons in Europe but I'd be devastated if things went poorly (financially I'd be fine but emotionally I would be quite upset!)

My insta is @sketchitoutstudio if the table photo isn't good enough.
