Doing first artist alley this weekend how is my table layout and product

Doing first artist alley this weekend. The paper will be wood with prices. What do think what could I improve? Is my product ok. Charging 3 pounds for wooden keyrings is that too cheap.

First Market - Too generic?

Hello!

I was recently invited to participate in an art market with a friend of mine, to share a table. I’ve been making art for a very long time, so this is definitely exciting!

I’ve never really worked towards making merchandise, and I’m aware of how overworked some things are; especially spooky/skeleton/animal/witchy vibe stuff. Albeit how common they are, they’re still what I associate the most with myself.

I made these two designs as a starter, and I was wondering if they looked too generic to be successful or if they’re unique enough?

I mostly want to know if you would walk past, or maybe buy if you saw more designs like these!

I was also curious what people tend to want to see more of at markets? Stickers and keychains tend to be overdone, I considered making candles as well; but I’d be happy to hear suggestions if anyone has them!!

Hey guys what do you think of my first booth? :) any tips :D (Ignoring the parts where the grid cubes are white because I didn't have time to finish taping coloured paper up, i also realised I was missing one grid cubes on the right for symmetry after I took this photo so ignore that too)

Thin paper envelopes for selling prints in?

Hi, I once bought a print from someone who gave it to me in a thin paper sleeve instead of the usual cellophane sleeve. Since then, I've been wondering where to get these. It was pretty much like the cellophane bags most people sell their prints in, just made of a very thin translucent paper. I think it might be just slightly more eco friendly than the cellophane sleeves.

Does anyone know where I can get these in australia?or what keywords to look up online? I've tried looking at vellum paper envelopes but they don't come in the sizes I'm after

How to get food at a con?

Hi! So I recently signed up for a con, and didn't realize until after I was juried in and paid that the convention center didn't allow outside food.

I usually plan at cons to bring food in with me, as having snacks throughout the day is an access need for me. (low blood pressure, I can get woozy or even faint if I don't track my eating well.) So having a con where I can literally only eat con food seems like.... a problem.

Does anyone have any advice about how to deal with this rule? i probably won't have a buddy there, and the artist alley goes from eleven am to eleven pm on Saturday, so I will DEFINITELY need a meal and some snacks.

Knowing that the center doesn't allow outside food will likely mean that food lines are long, and I don't know what options there will be, so I don't know if I can plan breaks to step away and buy something. My current plans are either:

A: buy a bunch of food in the morning right when the con opens, or
B: Set up a sign offering "side quests" with rewards like discounts or stickers for people who help me get food.

I'm just wondering if, because it is an access need, I should reach out to the con and try to figure out who at the convention center I can ask about this. I doubt that either the con or the convention center want a vendor passing out at their event, but knowing convention centers tey might care more about selling overpriced burgers lol.

So yeah: any advice? has anyone else dealt with this?

Anyone ever start artist alley later in life?

I am just a few months shy of 40 and have only started vending conventions within the past year. My main focus is chainmaille and stickers, but I have a few earrings and pins in addition as well. My table set up looks split, with one half being the jewelry, and the other being stickers. My name something along the lines of "XXXX AND YYYY" , even though it is all just me. The designs are basically things I like such as characters from my favorite shows and games, some cryptids, and animals.

Now I have been doing craft fairs for years, but I feel like I have finally found my niche. My sales have previously been all over the place, but if it is an "alt" craft fair, con, and some random holiday markets I make at least what I would working a week of my day job.

A lot of artists I notice are on the young side, or very established if they are around my age. On the other hand I vend next to retired old ladies at craft fairs.

How do you handle selling an piece with artistic nudity at a con?

Hello! I'm creating a print right now that involves nudity and was wondering how one would go about selling it at a con? This isnt necessarily about nudity regulations, for this piece i got the go-ahead to display a censored version and sell the actual version but I question how do i go regulating who i do and dont sell it to? At one con i went to i saw an artist sell a NSWF zine that wasn't displayed after asking the customer for their ID. Would something like that be necessary for something involving artistic nudity considering its a very unsexual piece? Sorry if this is a dumb question, thank you either way!

Those who sell Etsy merch at AA at cons, how do you do it?

Hello! Poking my head in here again!

After my last post, I decided to really get into trying to figuring out the whole vending thing, but another question came to mind:

So! I have an Etsy shop, and I would like for some of that stuff also be sold at the event I want to try to sell at next year. But I was curious as to those who may be doing that, how do you manage inventory?

I know with Square, you can sync up your listings to your Square so it can keep track of inventory, but.... how exactly does it do that? How does it know what items get bought in person for it to keep track? Do you have to manually do it? Is there like buttons for you to press in the square app to be like "Oh this person bought this button in this style" and it goes to update the Etsy listing of how many there is? I'm just curious.

I don't have a Square device or the anything atm so I can't really look into it rn.

Or maybe you don't even do that and you just manually log what's sold and go to edit the listings later?

What is your favorite way to display stickers?

I have seen several different ways, like the customer telling you what they want from a grid panel, grab and go from a pop up, and trading card binders.

How do y'all determine if a piece is to mature for the show floor?

I have a series of prints I'm doing with different dragons based on the 7 deadly sins, and for wrath I have a dragon crawling down a pile of bodies surrounded by fire. It's only silhouettes, and there's only a minor amount of blood, but it's still, ya know, a body pile, and I worry that may be too intense for a normal artist alley. How do y'all usually decide what's too much?

Is my art good enough to apply and secure a booth?

I couldn’t help but think that my chibi art isn’t as good/skillful enough compared to boothing artists. Though I feel more confident in my realism artstyle. And advice on this?

First 3 day event!

Hi everyone! I am booked at the end of the May, I have worked conventions before but this is my first multi-day event! I am very excited (and nervous).
One of my biggest questions though is money. I am not sure what to keep it in for easy handling during transactions. Previously it has just been in my pocket but I feel as though i will have too much in them. What is everyone’s favorite method for this?

Also any tips or tricks you have for a first timer😅 I’ve been watching/ reading so much
