Question: Can I use a gaming laptop for creative purposes

Hi, I'm a college student. I am currently working on a degree in animation. My current laptop is a Lenovo Yoga 16inc from 2024 so relatively new, but my keys have started to stop working, and I plan on trading it in for a new laptop

I was wondering if any gaming laptops work well for animation because I also enjoy playing games when I have the time to.

I have heard that gaming laptops are also good for creatives because it is already set up with a good graphics card.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

help my first computer build

I've finally switched to PC gaming after playing video games on consoles my whole life. I built the following system:

Power supply: Tempest Pulse PSU 650W ATX 3.1

Processor: Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz

Motherboard: ASUS Prime B760M-A D4-CSM

Hard drive: Kioxia Exceria Plus G3 Bulk 1TB SSD 5000MB/s NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 Gen4

RAM: Forgeon Cyclone PLUS V2 DDR4 3200 MHz 32GB (2x16GB) CL16 Black

Graphics card: MSI RTX 5060 Ti 16GB SHADOW 2X OC PLUS

The problem is, I have a lot of doubts and I'm afraid I've made the wrong choice. My main goal is to play only at 1080p and always at a higher resolution than [missing resolution]. I don't want to experience frame rate drops like on consoles.

I'm a big fan of the Doom series, as well as Dark Ages, Resident Evil (I want to try Requiem), Baldur's Gate, Ninja Gaiden 4, Elden Ring...

I don't know how benchmarks work, since I'm not very familiar with computers, but do you know if these games can be played at 1080p at 60 fps or higher? With ray tracing disabled and the settings maxed out, or by lowering some like shadows or ambient effects.

I'd like to confirm this to know if it's worth spending money on these games or if I'll regret not choosing a good PC.

Thank you so much!

Gaming computer vs laptop - PC illiterate

Hi! I'm wanting to buy a gaming computer for me and my husband to use. He plays most of his games on the PS5 and the computer games he likes run on my MacBook Pro but I'm sure there's a few games in Steam he'd like to try out that my laptop (which is getting older) probably couldn't handle. I think the biggest thing is I would really like to play Baldur's Gate 3 with all the mods available to PC players (I've played with mods on the Playstation but it tends to overheat.) I also enjoy playing The Sims occasionally, again with custom content and mods. I'd love to try out some other cozy games that are PC exclusive but I'm mostly concerned with being able to smoothly play BG3.

Budget would be $1500 which I know is tight, I don't expect miracles but something that could handle the game without getting so hot it shuts off would be great. I also don't know if a laptop or a desktop would be better but I definitely don't have the computer literacy to build something myself (physically I could figure out but I have no clue what to order.)

Any help would be appreciated :)

CPU at 89°C and 50% use when playing. Is it normal?

I am new to PC building and my PC was built a week ago. I have 4 fans intake, 4 fans out (1 intake fan does not work, but I will get it to work soon). These are my specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5 GHz 8-Core Processor,
  • Noctua NH-D9L 46.44 CFM CPU Cooler,
  • Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX ATX AM5 Motherboard,
  • TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory,
  • Kingston NV3 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive,
  • TEAMGROUP NV5000 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive,
  • Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB Video Card,
  • Corsair 3500X RS-R ARGB ATX Mid Tower Case,
  • Corsair CX750M (2025) 750 W Semi-modular ATX Power Supply I am running Helldivers 2 at 89°C and ~50% use when playing. I have pretty good graphics settings, but they are not over the top either. iCUE (for keyboard), Razer Synapse (for mouse) and AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition are running background. Discord is open on my second screen (in a call). Is something wrong? I need help, two days ago the game was running with my CPU being at 80°C max.

Looking for a budget friendly gaming setup for casual weekend gaming

Hi everyone,

I never really had the chance to play many decent video games growing up because I couldn’t really afford it, and I never knew how to build a PC. To be honest, I still don’t know much about PCs or gaming hardware.

I’m now thinking about picking up something to play on weekends and occasionally after work. I’m not looking to become a serious gamer or spend hours every day gaming. I just want something that’s easy to use and offers good value for money.

The main games I’d like to play are:

• Forza Horizon
• GTA V (and GTA VI when it comes out)
• Open world games
• Racing games
• Action/adventure games

I’m considering:

• Xbox Series S
• Xbox Series X
• PS5
• Gaming laptop
• Gaming PC

I don’t need the highest graphics settings or anything fancy. I just want a smooth experience without spending more than I need to.

If you were in my position and mainly gaming on weekends, what would you buy and why?

Thanks!

Want to get into Hunt, not sure if my laptop can handle it.

Hey there, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but im going for it!

Ive been seeing a lot of videos lately that have inspired me and im looking to buy and get into Hunt: Showdown. The one thing holding me back at the moment is my setup.

At this point in time (and for the foreseeable future) i am using a 'gaming laptop' that i bought many years ago. Getting a full on PC setup is NOT in the cards for me at the moment so im trying to work with what ive got even though i know its not optimal.

I am also quite illiterate when it comes to graphics cards, driver, CPU/GPU, RAM etc, so when i check the steam page requirements and it says the minimum recommended Graphics is:

  • GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GTX 1650 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT, with a minimum of 4GB of VRAM

I unfortunately have no idea what that means in relation to what ive got.

My Setup:
Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB)

16GB RAM

I am hoping to at least hit 60FPS at 1080p, dont need anything more than that. To the PC Literate among us, Is this possible to achieve with my setup?

Additional storage for gaming pc

I'm looking to add more storage to my pc. It came with 1TB SSD but I tend to play larger games (WOW, GW2, BG3, FF7 Intergrade and Rebirth, etc) so I run out of space pretty quickly. Any recommendations for expanding my HD space?

Built this PC 3 years ago, have not used it in a year. What should I update before gaming again?

I built this PC myself about three years ago with the help of Reddit and YouTube. Somehow I managed to get everything working even though I know nothing about PCs. Fast forward to now, and I have not used it in about a year. I have forgotten most of what I learned when I built it.

I am not looking to upgrade anything because I cannot afford upgrades right now. I just want to make sure everything is up to date and running properly so I can start gaming again. I just play modded Sims 4😭.
I know I should probably update the BIOS, but beyond that I am not sure what I should check or update after a PC has been sitting unused for so long. I use a free Windows key, if that matters.

My Specs:

CPU
Intel Core i5 12600KF

Motherboard
ASRock B660M Pro RS

Graphics Card
PowerColor Hellhound AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT 8GB

Memory
Silicon Power Value Gaming 32GB DDR4
2 × 16GB
3200MHz CL16

Storage
TEAMGROUP MP44L 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD

Power Supply
Thermaltake Toughpower GX2 600W 80 Plus Gold

CPU Cooler
Thermalright Assassin X120 Refined SE

I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Which PC games would make the most out of an oled 4k 165hz TV, if I normally like 2D indie games?

Hello everyone; I typically enjoy (often 2D) indie titles or, for 3D/AA/AAA games mainly stuff that plays better with mouse and keyboard (like Outer Wilds, Cyberpunk 2077, Portal, Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 & 2 to name a few).

Since I now own an oled 4k 165hz TV I'd like to use it to play some games, but I don't know many titles that would make the most out of it because of what I usually play.

Do you have any suggestions?

Here are some games I like that might help understand what I tend to enjoy:

- What I already played (sadly before getting the TV) that I think would apply: Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Elden Ring, God of War, Life is Strange (all of them but the very last one), The Witcher 3

- Already on my list: Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, God of War Ragnarok, Life is Strange Reunion, Mafia: Terra Madre (I'm intrigued by the Sicilian dubbing in the Italian version, since my family is from Sicily and I can understand it; don't really know much about the game tho).

- Favourite games, not particularly suited to be played on the TV or with high hz specifically: Outer Wilds, Baba is You, The Witness, Baldur's Gate 3, Into the Breach, Inscryption, Cuphead, Celeste, Hades 1 & 2, Hollow Knight & Silksong, Heaven's Vault, Slay the Spire 1 & 2, Darkest Dungeon, Cassette Beasts, Zero Escape Nonary Games.

I do not like Bethesda's style of games.

Thank you in advance to anyone who might have suggestions 😃

is 54c temp on my cpu while idle is normal?

My CPU temperature is 50°C to 55°C when I’m idle, and when I’m playing GTA V Legacy, it reaches 85°C to 88°C. Is this normal? My CPU is an i5-3570, and I’m using an Intel stock cooler.

Opinions on 4K gaming with RTX 5060

Hi there, i have found a gaming PC build second hand for 800 dollars with the following specifications:

- CPU: Intel I5 Ultra 225F;

- GPU: RTX 5060;

- RAM 32 GB DDR5 at 5600 Mhz;

- Power source: no data;

- Motherboard: no data.

Personally, I think the price is enticing, given the RAM price for example. I stress on the 4K resolution because I am coming from a PS 5 which I sold, and i already bought a 4K OLED which I want to continue to use with the PC.

Is 4K possible? I am willing to lower the settings to Medium and DLSS to performance. I intend to stick with the PC and upgrade the GPU in maybe one year, but it has to be okay until then.

Laptop to play modded Zomboid

I am looking to get a gaming laptop to play modded Zomboid on, but I don’t want to break the back. I was hoping to get just a basic laptop that will run it smoothly, but have no idea what I’m looking for or where to begin. I generally play on an Xbox, so had no need to learn about computers, it was either playable or not. Anyone have ideas?
